Ok no CNN story link in this post, just a post about something I notice more than I like to and a question.

Anyway I got into work this morning to see that the post I made about Elton John's statement about him banning organized religion if he was able to was up to 6 or 7 pages of posts. Instatly I knew what was behind the link would not be good, I could already tell that the flame wars must of gone on all night long. Then I read the posts, ok nothing that is different than usual in the threads I make that has any ounce of religion in it. But then I notice talks of me and how I might get banned for this and then I see the thread is locked.

Why is it that anytime I post anything about something going on in the world over religion a huge flame war explodes. Hell why do arguements insue over what I may feel towards a certain religion, and why is it that **** doesn't hit the fan until one certain person posts with blinders on? It is like I am not allowed to post anything that contains someone's views that goes against or doesn't agree with the christian faith without it starting a mother ****er wildfire of bible thumping and flaming. If I want to believe the way I do about religion and hatred between people let me, and if you want to believe that some Invisible Guy contacted Brady Games to write a strategy guide to life thousands of years ago more power to you. Just don't throw that ****ing book in my face every time I state something. It aint going to change my mind and it won't make me give a **** either your just wasting your time.

So here is a warning to people who may get pissed off at my posts.

Warning* I am an asshole, the stories I post and the views I state in my posts may piss you off, if you have a problem with it don't click on the link to the thread. I will not hold anything back because someone, somewhere at sometime might not agree with it. If you should feel the need to thump a book at me please ram your head into the wall I don't care. I only post items I think would make for good conversation, please do not **** it up for everyone else and make us stoop to your level. Trust me I have no shame, I will have no problem going lower than you, like I said....I am an Asshole. And I am proud of it.

Thank you.

There's a difference between debating and being critical of something and then flaming it.

Will banning organized religion stop hatred? Only if banning homosexuality will stop AIDs or banning abortion will stop abortions. So that's a simple no.

Amen John, I wish more posters had your level head.--Toll

Elton John couldn't ban religion but the Allied Atheist Allegiance could. :)

I agree with this being merged into the tirade thread, but anyways...

I more or less ignored the Elton John article on CNN and the link on here, because I figured it was another case of "Open mouth, insert foot." Too bad I missed it, because I would have probably entered my two cents there.

A suggestion to the mods: Why not delete the flaming posts and leave the rest of the thread alone? Maybe when people notice certain posts mysteriously disappear, they might get the point to quit acting like retards. (Or /b/tards in some cases)

Be glad you didn't. -Toll

I think there should be some more thought put into exactly where a .org stops being an organized religion and starts being a hate group. I mean, the KKK are kristians but we recognize them as a hate group because of all the firebombings and lynch mobs.

Westboro Baptist is a hate group but have yet to kill anyone in a way that can be linked directly to them, so they still count as a religion.

In reference to /b/tards, I lol'd.

Oh my, I missed the thread.

All I have to say is:

Bwhahahahahaha!
Finally, a famous name to back my evil legislation to dictate what is and is not appropriate to expose other people's children to.
Bwhahahahahahhaha!
Now, if any state passes one of those video game legislations, I'll call up Elton and we'll draft our own legislation.
Bwhahahahahahaha!

Oooo.... I'm soooo baaaad. :)

Personally I fail to understand how you can expect Christians to NOT react to a story like the one you mentioned; or any person of faith for that matter. We all know it was an incendiary story; and we all knew what the reaction would be after it was posted. You can hardly claim suprise at the posts or the decision to lock the thread.

I am only supprised that it didn't turn into a total flame war until you started to post. The only one who seemed to have a big problem with the story was you, the way I see it most flames on here don't even start until you open your mouth. All you seem to do it toss the gas can into the fire and fan the flames. I never said I didn't expect anyone to not react. In all honesty I knew they would, why? Because a gay man is talking about how he would ban organized religion, more fule for them to say they are against God. And like a moth to the flame you come out and accuse us of being bigots against christians all the while preaching your Holier than Thou bull****. I do claim supprise because I thought for a moment we could have a civil discussion about a topic I though could be discussed in a mature tone, but I was wrong. The bible got thumped and the flame started to fly.

I am going to leave this intact just insert my comments below. Bayushisan admitted often add fuel to the fire, but was hardly the only person to go against the Elton John statement. I would lay half the flame war in the previous thread on KN and a few others as they were the spark that ignited the fuel.
Part of the problem is that as soon as Bayu posts there are several people who immediately attack his post, usually within minutes of it being posted.

Now as to us being able to have an adult discussion about things like Religion, no I don't think the users of this forum are capable of having one, thus I avoid such discussions in the Debate Thread.

Example of an entirely unnecessary line that will result in an edit from me...-Toll.

Do I agree with Elton John's statement? Most likely not. Would I flame you if you start accusing him of being a bigot and a liar and an outright sinner that will burn in hell forever? You better believe it.

You see your entire argument is made in this to the point paragraph, yet you had to open name calling. Even if what you said is true you put it in context of name calling.
Think before you type.

I missed the thread before it got locked, but I just read through it. Allow me to post some observations...

1) Demon, most of the time I love the stories you bring to the forums. I believe that you are truly sincere in your attempts to start discussions, and most of the time you frame that well in your opening posts. Having said that, what you posted in the Elton John thread was essentially flamebait. You knew you would draw ire with such an inflammatory notion as banning all religion. I don't think it's fair for you to imply the flames are all someone else's doing when you began the thread in a controversial way.

2) As usual with the internet, there are certain folks here just itching for a fight. I won't name names, but they will go out of there way to take any opening for a argument and expand it into a big flaming pile of poo. If anyone should be banned, it should be them for constantly highjacking threads with their BS.*

3) There is a culture in this forum, I've noticed. It's like the GP forums have a "flow" to them, if you will, and most people go with that flow. Anyone outside of the stream is viewed as an obstacle.

This culture seems very, very far to the left on most issues, which is fine. It becomes a problem, though, when people with different views are immediately attacked. We discuss many politically charged issues around here (no surprise since this is the Game Politics forum) though, and topics like those tend to attract people from all over the spectrum. Methinks many members of this forum would do well to remember there are other people out there with different opinions, and that those people are not automatically wrong for disagreeing.

* There are people like this on both "sides" of the debate, so neither "side" is entirely to blame.

Bayu... my /b/rother, my Nigra, my homey; you, as a sentient human being, in the possession of free will, CAN choose not to respond to such a story, as I can choose not to walk into a church and scream "YOU ARE WRONG!".

Free will is a delightful thing.

I could also point out that, well... the thread was not on fire until you walked in. A small shrubbery may have ignited itself, but nobody was paying attention to it. Sadly, you seemed to be spraying gasoline all over the thread. =/

Too bad we can't discuss anything but fundies in off-topic.

Because locking a thread is much easier than going through 50,000 edits in the morning when we get to work, or where ever we do our modding from.

Oh btw this thread is closed.

And now that I am done answering PMs and a few other things and before I go back to the work I get paid to do. Flame wars ARE NOT going to occur here, PERIOD. I know not everyone agrees with Bayushin,(I often don't) but you also are not going to attack him/her for his opinion. (again you don't see me attacking him) I will argue against his opinion, but not attack him. This applies to Bayushin as well, I know he and KN don't get along, and I won't let him attack KN anymore than I'll let KN attack him.
THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE.
Remember
Debate an opinion= ok
Attack the person behind the opinion = lock, deletes, banning etc.

The second is up to the mod who responds. For me its a matter of how the thread is going, if its nothing but flames it's gonna become a lock. If it's just 1 or 2 I'll probably edit those with a warning. If it's highly offensive I am going to use the Reprimand feature available to Mods and start a discussion, and then let Dennis decide the user's fate.

Now everyone after reading this go re-read mine and Theory?'s rules for off topic posting.
