Just heard on ABC News that the PS3 is already having problems with old PS and PS2 games. Some of the games aren't playing sound.
Another failure at backwards compatibility? Wouldn't be a surprise.

IGN reported this too. The test was coming from a Japanese PS3, & the bulk of the incompatibility is indeed with sound. But that's not surprising at all. The PS2 wasn't perfect at playing PS1 games, hence, I take it out every once in a while to play some old games. However, I found that an updated PS2 played some of these older games pretty well.
With online connection, a hard drive, and an overall better control over updates, time will solve some of these problems.

Hence the reason I am going to be smart and not rush to buy a Wii or PS3 until a couple months after the launch. I want to make sure the kinks are worked out before I buy it.

Ramen!
The first batch of consoles always have problems. No real surprise.

But... but I really want a Wii! D:

I wonder if the Wii has had any report of problems. I really want one by the end of this year...
Anyone know?

PS3 already having problems?
You say this like it's news.
*shrugs*
Every single launch has it's problems.
What I am worried about for Sony is the report that said the average purchaser of your average PS3 bought, on average, one game (0,89 game to be precise). We all know what this means: a large, and I do mean LARGE, percentage of them is buying them to resell them for a profit.
This is bad news for Sony, because the software is where they make the actual profit.

The worst problems I see with the Wii is unresponsive controls.
Also, I have a thing against Nintendo controllers. They always seem not to work, or break easier.

And the individual parts are super mega expensive. This is so Nintendo forces you to get a new one instead of having it fixed, which no sane game store will do.

Curious, in my experience, the nintendo controllers, from the N64 and above, had proved to be *better* than the 3rd party controllers.

The problems we've experienced were the controllers screwing up. Like, a character constantly jumping in SSBM even though we don't have the stick pointed upwards.
It usually went away after a restart or five.

Its best to pause, unplug the unresponsive controller, then put it back in. If the problem persists, blowing in it might help.

Agreed. The problem usually negins if by accident a stick is pushed in a direction when you fire up the machine.

Nintendo seems to have relatively glitch free launches. I dont recall there being any sort of trouble with the DS or the Gamecube.

Same here. About the only problem I can forsee with the Wii is the backwars compatibility having glitches, but odds are if there are any problems Nintend oeither foresaw them or will do replacements.
The following is the sales data for the PS3, in the two days it's been out in Japan:
Total Hardware Sales:
81,639 PlayStation 3 60 GB: 45,774
PlayStation 3 20 GB: 35,865
Total Software Sales:
Ridge Racer 7: 21,654
Mobile Suit Gundam: Target In Sight: 21,309
Resistance: Fall of Man: 13,545
Genji: Days of the Blade: 8,766
Sega Golf Club: 1,410
That's a total of 66,684 games sold alongside 81,639 consoles. Meaning at least 14,955 people did not buy any games with their PS3.
Poor guys. Poor, poor Sony =/

200ish at most PSX games not working.
Controllers like remotes ,after awhile build up dust/debrie and need to be cleaned but soemtiems its the chips on them,I have ran into chip/resitor problems 2 or 3 times in my 15ish years in gaming, mostly off brand PSX/PS2 stuff.
The only thing I have against the GC control design is it suxs compared to the dual shock, cant really beat the dual sticks in front ,wouldn't mind havening more buttons with the X,Y,tri, cir
the current Numcuch and wii mote setup is lacking from a traditional gaming standpoint, the should have used 2 analog sticks and not 1...even tho they offer a "GC/psx like pad" I feel it wont easily replace the wii mote if you have to replace the wii mote....

I was going to say, I got a Gamecube and DS while they were still semi-new (I got the both for christmas on the years they launched) and I even pre-ordered a GBA so I got one of those at launch day. They all worked fine for me.
Then again, that's Nintendo. They're known for being slow (delays, delays, delays...) so the problems that come from rushing ahead probably don't apply to them. Though the DS and Wii were rushed a bit compared to previous systems.
still, they've got a good record for making reliable systems and the Wii (vcontroler aside) isn't too big a jump from the Gamecube, so I'd say the Wii would more likely be fine than not.

This is one of the reasons why I decided to wait, I suspected the PS3 might have glithces. So now i'm just gonna wait for them to fix the problems and for a price drop to get a PS3.

I read on the Magic-Box that the software problems the PS3 has (like not being able to play PS1/2 games) can be fixed by updating the firmware. Which is pretty cool.
So really I just want to see what hardware problems the PS3 will have.
Signing up in order to get the firmware upgrade seems to be hell though.

Hey, it's the same for the 360.
Though, if the wireless for the PS3 is anything like the PSP, at least in regards to firmware updates, then there should be no signing up involved.
But hey, if software problems could be fixed without having to buy a new system, then it's well worth it (imagine of they had that for the PS2's and DREs!?).

I know. Hopefully a price cut to follow. Cause with the money I'll make from Christmas (thank god for being Italian), I'll probably be able to buy one.
Also, on topic, has there been any other problems with the PS3? Cause as far as I know, it not being able to play PS1/2 games seems to be the only problem so far.

SO far it has issues out of the box with some HDTV and some HDTV modes

And of coarse BWC issues

Hmmm...if that's all, it's not really all that bad. If it's software, it can be fixed via patch download.

I could have sworn her weakpoint was considerably lower down... at least when I was flipping her over.
