I am looking to upgrade my PC over the months for Bioshock.
The question Do I want to go DDR2 if I do it will msot likely be 512MB unless I can get 1GB for 100$.
VId card will not be less than a GF 7600 GT
Mobo unsure but no more than 100$
Theory?

Well it obviously depends on if you can find a mobo that supports DDR2 for that price. Actually, it depends if you can find a mobo for that price...at all.
I mean, I would upgrade my mobo, but there's no point because I can up the chip already so I might as well save some cash. I can have up to 4gigs of DDR400, but when I have it maxed it out (which I will) the buffer is reduced to 333 I beleive. However, 4 gigs at 333 is definitely better than 1 gig at 400.
I don't know anything about DDR2 though, so I guess I'm not really being much of a help here.

Ya but better to have a buildable foundation than to stay a old one however in a year after I upgrade DDR 2 stuff would be cheaper so I am at a loss, pluss I have odd speed and timed ramm in my cureent system somehow it all works great I dont know if a new board would take 1.5GB of mixed ramm.
SO I dunno it really all depends on the sale I guess.but this tiem I dont want to get another used mobo.....they are to tricky to fool with.

Go to newegg and go to the specials section. You'll find some awesome AM2 boards that are open box and usually like $10-$30 less than normal.

939+DDR2=will not POST

939+DDR2=will not POST
So then I can't use it anyways.

damn there ARE n 939 boards with DDR2..I guess soemtiems they do skip *L*
ah well I guess I will spend 150 on new DDR 400-500ramm *L*
unless I can get a AM2 chip that has 1MB cache on it and roughly 2Ghz for under 100

DDR2 spec has more pins anyways. As we all know, more pins=LAME!
Because of my investment into 2gb of ddr500 i'm going to be sticking with 939 for a while. There's no shame in it, you can get fx-55s for pretty cheap (advantage being unlocked multiplyer).
Kuri, i'm sorry there's no 939 boards that use DDR2 but look at it this way, 939 proc's memory controllers don't work with DDR2 anyways. :P
For cost effectiveness I'd stick with 939 for a while, there's ****loads of good boards for the platform and that way you won't have to buy a whole lot of stuff at once since already you're looking at getting a pci-e video card. Hell, AM2 is going to go away soon anyways since I'd assume after a few models of 4-cores they'll go to another socket type.

Hey old man my name is not Kuri :P
My mind might be fuzzy but my body is not...well..it is...altho its unevenly spread...but I anit the furry :P
bah! I have net been keeping up alot with comp stuff, they keep trumping themselfs >>
Anyway I want to spend 300-500 ,currently I have mixed ram they are cheap and buggy
tell me oh great and wise freeman dose 4X 512MB of the same ramm work as good as 2X 1GB of the same ramm?
would the AMD Athlon 64 3500-3800 be as good as my 3700+ that has a 1MB cache? I guess by the time you add the new mobo and get on the faster chip set it would at least even out...mm
Stay away from the quad cores for a while. All they are is basically two dual cores welded together. This is akin to welding two tanks together and expecting double preformance.
Wait untill they do this natively.

like the frist gen Intel 2 or 3 core? *L*
Anyway I have a grand for a CPU just 300-500 for ALL OF IT ,150 for vid,100 for mobo100 for ramm something like that,I might jsut get a Asrock mobo and get a vid card and ramm and be done with it.

Well my mobo can handle both the FX and X2 processors. I was planning on gettin an X2 Manchester, but I would consider the exorbitant amount of cash it would cost to get a dual core FX, but I don't know which is better.

Whats the ebst CPU under 150 on this page?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Order=PRICE&Page=1&Category=34&Brand=1028&N=2010340343+50001028+1051720996&Submit=ENE&Nty=1&SubCategory=343
On this mobo
http://www.directron.com/m2nmx.html
Since it has onboard vid it can be backup/temp untill I can get
with this ramm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145566
then this vid
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143049
------------------
OR
I can do this
Keep my 3700+
Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131568R
RAMM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220084
and the same vid card.

Tom knows. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html
Zippy: regard 2x1gb vs. 4x512mb, 2x1gb is teh winnar. The ram ends up being slower with 4x512mb because more sticks have to be addressed.
I would stick with your current proc. At best with AM2 you can afford an ever so slightly faster proc but with far less ram at first (which, when Vista sees 1gb of ram it will say "Rapetiemrapetiem...."). Checked the numbers on AM2 v. 939? They're both the same and the only reason to go for AM2 is for future compatibility.
KN: Yeah, 4 cores=teh suck for now, but they'll bring 2 core and single core cpus way down so that means they're made out of win.

No wonder its around 100/150 its the nearly the same as the 939 *L*
now all I have to do is find a nice fast CHEAP 7800 gt......I wodner if you can find them for 200 0-o
Theory?

That chart doesn't have the X2's listed. I think I'm going with the X2. The FX seemed to outpace the 64, so I bet two would be just as good, if not better.
Oh ****...are the FX's 64 bit?
EDIT: Theory?'s a dumbass. Of course they are.

The FX came out after the 64 thus they are 64.
