View Full Version : Do you cheat?

Heres a question I'm curious to know the answer to. Do you cheat in your games and if so how often?
I myself admit freely to cheating quite a lot in games, normally after completing the game without cheats first. There are some games I find which are just no fun without cheats, titles include Bloodrayne (1+2), Enclave and Psi Ops. I also find a large number of games are seemingly impossible without cheating (except for the gaming elite) such as Severance: Blade of Darkness. Then there are the games where I can complete without but I just like to savour the gameplay without the challenge, such as Jedi Academy and most recently Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Generally these cheats consist of simply the invincibility mode so that I don't have to worry about my health every few seconds.
So what about you? Do you cheat with games or do you consider them to ruin the game?

I'll admit it, I use cheats, frequently, usually after I completed a game once through first, but at others, I jsut want everythign now, and usually it doesn't make the game any easier. I'll use San Andreas as an example. I'll turn off the police, make myself invincible, and give myself unlimited ammo, however, high falls, explosives and gunfire for mthe police chopper still hurt, and I memorized the disable wanted level cheat so I can battle the police when I want to. Basically, I use the codes to goof off

Yeah, I found San Andreas really irritating without cheats, I just wanted to steal cars and blow things up. It mean't I was able to play the game during the rental period (didn't buy it) but it did mean I got bored very very quickly...well that and I just didn't like the game.

Well, no amount of cheating will make anyone like a game.

Well true...unless of course the cheats mean you get to mess around with it more!

If I am playing them through properly, nope. If I just want fun, I will.
Half-Life 2 was the only exception. I was at that part at the prison where you have to defend against all the combine with the help of the turrets (before meeting with Alyx). But because my system had a lot of problems it would lock up or crash every time I made a little progress and I could not really use quicksave.
Tried it off and on for like 3 days before I skipped ahead a little just so I could carry on with the game (quick saving every 2 minutes.. damn I hated that system).

Thats the exact same bit I could not get past when I rented the Xbox version!
I mostly cheat in first person shooters. I only play the ones with really good stories, and it annoys me that I cannot progress the story because I suck. My first playthrough of Half-Life, Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex were all done with cheats. Marathon was the first FPS I finished without cheats (mostly because I don't think there are any. Doing the whole trilogy took two years of my life. Mostly because I played it on the Mac in school, but whatever). I also did Prey without cheats, but you pretty much have god mode enabled the whole damn time so yeah...
Once I've lived through the story, I focus on blasting **** into pieces, and that's when I stop using the cheatzors.

Yeah I'd say FPS are generally where cheats get used. I have yet to play HL1 without cheats, though I did complete Deus Ex without them...though can't say I've ever got very far with the sequel, it never grabbed me like the original. Soldier of Fortune is one of those where it just becomes far more entertaining with cheats because you get to aim without worrying about the bullets.
Sequel's not worth playing to the end. JC Denton fights with a rocket launcher, not the super awesome god powers he has.
He can also be killed with like.. three swipes of the sword.
Oh, remember Tracer Tong? Appearantly he's taken on an English accent.
I went and dug up this old ranty thing on the game from Google Cache, and plonked it elsewhere for reading pleasure (http://www.zeldalounge.com/wiki/Deus_Ex_2)

Cheating? I only cheat if I'm goofing off, usually with easter eggs or unusual mods/bugs/whatever.
I don't get to do that too often though, so the end result is I don't cheat much.

I only cheat if I hit a brick wall in a game. Or if I want to goof off. Even then I only do it on single player or on offline components of games. I never cheat when I play online.

No I agree, online is a complete no go area for cheating. For a start you're looking at being banned from the game if a mod catches you and personally in the online games I play cheats aren't really necessary. Besides in Dark Messiah dying a hilarious rag doll death is part of the fun!

I do some cheating. After finishing the game and the cheats don't help me progress becuase I'm not doing any missions
Let me take Any of the PS2/PC GTA's for an example.
I'll take my favorite cars and make them invincible. In the case of San Andreas it's the Tow Truck.
In Vice City I'll get a Cheetah and keep spraypanting it untill it is white then, place it in the garage. Then use the "All cars are black" cheat. Then I will find a Stinger. Place the car in the garage with the white Cheetah. Save then, restart turning off the cheat. Open up garage door. Look! I have the Miami Vice cars!
Cars Fly, Cars float, Health cheat (to fix car)
On the PC version I use A varity of mods and hacks.
Timesync - GTA time = Real time
Liberty City Mod for Vice City
Various car mods
Trainers - To give me certin cars/ test car mods/make my personal car invincible.
VC/SA camhack - play around with the game's camera
None of this stuff helps me progress in any way since I just drive aimlessly around

As much as online cheatign is a huge nono, there are peopel who do it anyway, and it ruins the experience for those who play an honest match.

Games are not balanced well now adays ,I use cheating to balance the gamepaly or just to make it fun take D3 and Q4 I add run and jump codes to amke it more fun dosent help much but sill its neat.
TO painfully balanced RPGs inf gold is good as well as inf magic,I have become annoyed with DQ8 and taged on inf gold and inf coin this would cheating but I am getting annoyed with the game *L*
I wish there was more that could be done with cheat devices,I would love to bind 0.10% damage done on GOW to fill magic up or something on max hard theres never enough magic to go around,I hate static magic *L*
Yes I cheat but I tend to do it to balance out a game, altho I am sure thats a cop out *L*

Generally, I play through the whole game clean & proper first, then if there's fun, wacky cheats to use (Ex. the GTA games), I use them on my second playthrough/after I beat story mode.

Yeah. I generally do that with GTA. First the actual game, and then I unleash about thirty thousand mods upon the game.
Greatly increases the game's lifespan.

...Does GameFAQs count when you use it in a pinch?
If not, then no, I don't cheat.

I don't cheat. I may debug by using the cheat codes, but no cheating. :)
