MAI SOWND CARD WONT PLAI GAMEZ RITE!!!

To put it into technical terminology, I'm using an external, ASIO-based "sound-card". It's a Mackie Onyx 400F to be specific, which is actually a recording interface, it has mic pre-amps and other kinds of fancy pro-grade stuff.

It can sync up to 192kbps, which is what FEAR seems to be setting it to on its own when I launch the game. However, once in FEAR (or Splinter Cell), as soon as things like, in game dialogue, bullets, or explosions start going off, all sound in the game becomes this evil clippy robotic sound. It's very annoying.

I have a secondary sound card, a Creative 7.1 card, but I don't use it, and the drivers aren't installed so the computer has no idea its there.

Anyone?

Have you checked the sampling as well? (44.1 vs. others?) The last time I had wierd robotic sound when converting audio files, it was being my sampling was off. Also, one site I looked at mentioned that the 400F was restricted to 24bit. Don't know how that would affect games.

Could update or reinstall your drive if changing settings don't help.

It allows the host application to determine the bitrate, but I can set the sync rate in the control panel. When I set it to 44.1, and then open up fear, the same problem occurs. When I close the game and go into my Onyx control panel, the sync rate has been changed, by FEAR, to 192. I normally run my system at 96.

in the audio options maybe under advanced you could set it to 96?

Your problem may be that FEAR doesn't support the device you're using. If it's a specialized recording interface, they may not have the programming in it. It may only work with Soundblaster-equivalent gear...

I'm pretty sure that IS the problem, I'm trying to find a temporary work around since I don't have speakers for the Soundblaster card.

I can't wait for Vista, I'll have pipes for my audio channels so I can run Skype while working on audio stuff, which will be great because then I can work with my friend in Georgia a lot more effectively.
