Is anyone here playing this game? I just picked it up today and am utterly in love with the gameplay style.

And the cloning system! The fact that I don't have to regrind my alts is spectacular.

This game is still around?

Yeah it just got a major patch update too. It got a large billing at PAX 08 which is what got me taking a look at it.

Had extremely generic gameplay last I tried it. Granted, all NCSoft games really feel the same but eh. I liked the whole futuristic thing... it was just... meh.

Are there other games that have the same kind of "You point, you shoot, and your bullets go where you aim, and do damage to the enemy mob if they hit (rather than dice rolls)" that are MMORPGs? Other than the upcoming The Agency, and perhaps Planetside (which I didn't like).

Counterstrike?

I haven't played TR, but the whole "point guns, shoot and do damage if you hit" sure does sound familiar.

Actually this doesn't happen in TR unless they changed it in a patch. I played in beta and when it was released you could easily lock on target and turn fire without aiming to hit them. It have a unique interface that makes you think you are playing a FPS but it still is dice rolls you just control when you roll them.

That said its still was a fun game and I might just have to check it out again.

I can't wait for The Agency to come out.

It kinda does both. You do have the lock on ability, but it's only for certain weapons; others (Torqueshell Rifles, propellant guns) are still very much point and hit, and some (RPGs, rocket launcher) are kind of in between.

Counterstrike isn't an MMORPG.

fair point, but it does have multi-player functionality that involves pointing and shooting at targets, and your description sounded suspiciously like an FPS. Which was the point I was getting at.

Oh I know. I used to be a developer for the Firearms mod, which Valve bought and was bundled in the Counterstrike retail pack.

However in my original question, it was looking for MMORPGs. As far as I know, in that field there's only Tabula Rasa (kinda), The Agency (Unreleased), Planetside (sort of MMO, if it's still around), and WWIIOL (if that's still around). There used to be one a long time ago called 10Six, but that's been gone for some time now.

Planetside is still around but the last I checked it was being overran with hackers (not as in hacking the planets but the game). The player base has gotten smaller as well. I know some people at SOE are keeping it alive but they have very little power to change source code to stop the hackers. They try their best to make it fun though.

WWIIOL is also still around but don't know in what state its in.
