View Full Version : New PMS member on the block

Hello everyone!

My name is Debbie Rodrigues, but I am better known as Love Angel PMS.
Yeah, I'm a proud PMS Clan member since 2006 and on the clan, I am the Co-Leader of the Xbox 360 Soul Calibur IV Division.

I play games since the age of 9 and I don't plan to stop. My favorite genres are Fighting Games (SC and DOA series, mainly) and Shooters (GoW!!!). But to be sincere, I play almost anything: there is no life for me without Bejeweled or Sudoku; Diablo I and II are my not-so-secret passions, and; Wii Fit helps me stay in shape.

I'm Brazilian, but I have been living in Belgium for 7 years. Here, I attended college, Management Assistant and Languages, and work.

As an European inhabitant, I can only envy the amount and professionalism of the events and associations created by and for gamers in the USA. I can only dream (or maybe just fantasize) that a small fraction of it will ever cross the ocean and save us here from the ostracism we live in.

Congratulations on ECA for the amazing working you have been doing and I am looking forward being around for a long time.

*game on*

Angel

Pay some of them no mind Love Angel, they're like fish in an aquarium so so hungry they nibble a little, a few seconds* later they forget anything ever happened and they're very nice folks to know afterwards : )

On that note have you ever seen a fish poop and eat at the same time and another one comes along and eats the poop?...yeah, it's pretty funny.

And yes, I guess you could say PMS was "on display" at PAX if by that you mean supporting our sponsors/partners that keep our site alive by networking and playing games(shootouts) like everyone else who has sponsors.

And the last thing I felt was "on display" at the ECA booth at PAX lol more like elated to finally be there and actually talk with real gamers for once and exhausted at the same time.

It's funny how much pleasure I get out of simple things like that now. I don't think it means I'm getting old, I think I'm reverting back to my childhood when someone tripping on a bump on the ground put me away for a few minutes with real laughter.

I was not referring to the ECA booth. I was referring to the big long horizontal stage booth near the back, where the PMS girls were on display. Some of them were legitly gaming with people. The others were being presented as eye candy to flirt with con-goers into coming into the booth.

So if by "Tee hee, look at me, I'm unusual" is supporting your sponsors, then there ya go.

And thefremen, it's only a reflection on the subset of PMS members that were at PAX (OP was not, so she's excluded) and the sub-subset of those that were acting like booth babes instead of actually earning their fame by playing games.

Long horizontal stage? On display? Are you talking about the Dell Extreme Tour bus...I'm not sure what else that would be..I spent most of my time at the ECA booth. I think you may be referring to some girls that were actually working at the booths and others that were just hanging out and neither were on display.

We have members that actually work the booths for our sponsors that are actual pro gamers and/or knowledgeable in whatever we're trying to promote like Alienwares or Patriot Memory and we have girls that attend the shows, like anyone else. They're members of PMS clan so we give them a shirt to wear around. But despite what things may look like they are ALL gamers and none are going "Tee hee, look at me". And my God..please don't put booth babes and PMS in the same sentence (We have nothing against them, they serve their purpose I guess...but seriously!?). Oh, and we have all types of woman that work booths from Grandmas, to Moms, to every type of look, age, size and color. I just wanted to mention that before anyone can make an argument that it's only the pretty faces that get a chance to participate at these shows.

And if you've ever worked an actual convention event there is a basic set up to get people to your booth; you have said product and an item someone can take or earn for checking out that product, you have someone urge people to try out said product and drive traffic through the booth, you have another person demonstrate that product, and the first person that hands the person who tried out the product a flyer/sticker/button/whatever.

In our case we help drive traffic to a booth(Working to mic, talking with convention goars, doing raffles, answering questions, taking pictures) as well as demonstrate how a product can work to it's fullest(Shoot outs on Alienwares using Patriot Memory, so on).

Even if there were a computer or console at each of the booths we were working there could not be enough to have each girl do shootouts(we would love that though)...and alas running a booth doesn't work that way.
So if you were talking about the Dell bus area...the point was having one person take challenges and whoever else walk around while people were trying out the Dells answering questions or showing them how things worked. If it looked like they were flirting..that's what it looked like to you and that's your opinion..to another person it's friendly, or another thought is that they were talking with friends or fellow clan members not wearing a shirt.

So I'm not sure when you saw "Tee hee, look at me, I'm unusual". We're the first to promote more woman and gaming and glad at the fact it's not like finding a unicorn that farts rainbows anymore. So there ya go.

And btw, during Nvidia's Nvision Lan in San Jose, which was just before PAX two actual booth babes, mini skirts up to the neck hopped on the table of one of our booth sponsors for pictures while one of our girls was doing a shoot out at the same booth. Not sure where the two ladies came from and had nothing against them, but we immediately stopped our girl from doing anymore shoot outs and told them she would continue once the two ladies were gone.

The point is there is a HUGE difference between us and booth babes and a little bit of research, and insight goes a long way in understanding that or breaking that misconception, or worse yet spreading that misconception. lol if our sponsors wanted booth babes they would pay a lot less to higher booth babes.

I can argue this till I'm dead. But again, friend, you're entitled to your opinion from the one or few shows you have seen us work..including our charities, so I'll leave it at that.

And mopman411 we have extra spandex with logos for all friends, you're free to take one if you want it.

That may have been what it was. When you walked in the first hallway (in between Gears 2 and Left 4 Dead) it was literally straight to the back.
Except to the extent that's exactly what some of them were doing. Though, if you're arguing that they were working for another booth at the time, maybe that booth put them up to it like Ubisoft did with the fragdolls. Oh, and we have all types of woman that work booths from Grandmas, to Moms, to every type of look, age, size and color. I just wanted to mention that before anyone can make an argument that it's only the pretty faces that get a chance to participate at these shows. One of my editors, a black female gamer who was looking for other black female gamers pointed out the near absence of any of them anywhere, especially on a booth. I also didn't note any obvious grandmas: everyone I saw wearing a PMS shirt looked like they were under the age of 30 (or close to it).

I fail to see what any of that has anything to do with guys taking pictures of you leaning all over them. How does that help the product?

In our case we help drive traffic to a booth(Working to mic, talking with convention goars, doing raffles, answering questions, taking pictures) as well as demonstrate how a product can work to it's fullest(Shoot outs on Alienwares using Patriot Memory, so on). Interestingly, other booths were able to drive traffic based on the quality of their products, not on having hot girls take pictures with people. Even if there were a computer or console at each of the booths we were working there could not be enough to have each girl do shootouts(we would love that though)...and alas running a booth doesn't work that way.

If it looked like they were flirting..that's what it looked like to you and that's your opinion..to another person it's friendly, or another thought is that they were talking with friends or fellow clan members not wearing a shirt. I don't see how asking 14 year old kids if they have girlfriends can be taken in many other ways.

So I'm not sure when you saw "Tee hee, look at me, I'm unusual". We're the first to promote more woman and gaming and glad at the fact it's not like finding a unicorn that farts rainbows anymore. So there ya go.

The difference being, you know exactly what to expect from booth babes.

So because you didn't see them at the many many shows you've been to that PMS has worked, or they were not wearing a PMS shirt, they don't exist? lol And just because they didn't have a shirt doesn't mean anything either..we just ran out of shirts between two European events, back to back, then the Nvision Lan and PAX back to back..we literately flew from one to the other with the shirts we had. And not that age matters...but that is completely irrelevant especially when someone can "look" like they can be 16, that can typically be way off..especially know a days. But, I'm sure you didn't think writer, journalist, engineer, college student, mother, or any of those types of things when you were looking at them because they just didn't "look" like that.

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/8772/1025643bm2.jpg
That's Danger with the Pirate Booty shirt...of course, she's an amazing dork. This is at PAX and Cori is the girl next to her. Both were doing coverage for GamerGirlRadio.

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9661/user141pic7341122075856kw9.jpg
That is PMS Wedge, our resident GH&RB Pro and Division Leader, she's also an Intel Engineer and one of the smartest people I've had the privilege to know. She was working the Dell Extreme Bus, taking occasional GH challenges and making sure folks were having fun. And yeah, I guess she doesn't "look" 30 does she. I guess that's a bad thing now.
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/6629/user141pic7349122075907fi9.jpg
That's Neha working the Plantronics booth..she's also well known in the DOTA community and does esports coverage for many sites.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6618/nvisionlan2008009sh6.jpg
That's Vball, one of our competitive gamers, working our Pajamarama at the Nvision Lan for Nvidia just before PAX.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2307/nvisionlan020hp8.jpg
That's MacGrandma PMS, our Halo division leader, working the stage and handing out stuff at the Nvision Lan as well and helping with our charity..both her and Vball have worked many shows.

LoL, and I really can't believe your friend missed Cori and Dangerdoll who actually are going to be two of our ECA Houston Presidents and were all over the place. The show was large as you stated so it's possible you didn't see every single member that was there. Dangerdoll will actually be working the ECA booth with me at E for All and has worked many many PMS booths before. Those two happen to be the hosts of Gamergirlradio as well and very very funny and talented woman. I'm proud to call them friends and teammates. We're always looking for more diversity so if your friend would like to join that would be awesome, or if she just wants some fun girls to hang out with that would be great to...and I can definitely get her in contact with Danger and Cori maybe even do a show on diversity in gaming and how it's seriously lacking. I'm Hispanic and I've been working PMS shows since I joined, now I mostly only work with ECA.

I'm not sure what type of diversity you were looking for. We don't typically have giant costumed PMS diversity monsters walking around as representatives of the clan going, "I"m the Spanish one, I"m the Black one, Hi, I"m Asian, Hi, I'm Indian" and so on. We could possibly arrange that for the next PAX, just so people don't miss that we do have more than a few colors, cultures, and ages in the clan and that work the shows.

I fail to see what any of that has anything to do with guys taking pictures of you leaning all over them. How does that help the product?

So under your definition, if you go to CES, lean on that new plasma and someone takes a picture of you that makes you a booth babe...or booth dude. Interesting definition. BTW, it's called promotion..a little something companies like to do to get the name of their brand out there on websites and forums that like to discuss what we're discussing right now.

Interestingly, other booths were able to drive traffic based on the quality of their products, not on having hot girls take pictures with people. I don't see how asking 14 year old kids if they have girlfriends can be taken in many other ways.

LoL, we're not SPONSORED by those other booths..or you would have seen us there too. Obviously everyone drives traffic differently we take challenges(kick butt most of the time), and stir up the crowd with games, jokes, and yes (OMG) pictures. We're pretty well known and we're a large group of gamers of course people are going to take pictures.

So most of what you can come back with is opinions. Hot girls to you is not "hot girls" to another person and when did being pretty mean something negative or that automatically makes you a booth babe?...You're unfortunately judging most of them from one show and most likely just a few moments and because they are woman getting attention you go with the lazy term of "booth babe", which is not very open minded or thoughtful from someone that seems like a pretty smart person that can come up with a little bit more.

And asking someone if they have a girlfriend isn't a crime either, but I'm gonna leave that one alone as its what you saw we don't know the context of what was said or who said it. But keep in mind if we go by your definition again, lol Grandma asking her grandson means she's flirting and not just conversing..not a nice image.

The difference being, you know exactly what to expect from booth babes.
And yet admittedly, you weren't there. You were at the ECA booth, and wouldn't actually have witnessed any of this. So how do you know that I'm not spot on right, and you're the one with a misconception as to what happened?

Lol, because I know every single woman you're talking about that were working the booths..they're my friends and sisters and I don't take insulting or spreading useless misconceptions or insinuations about any of my friends very lightly or our name. And I would hope you would do the same for your friends.

We also follow strict standards and go by them. Oh yeah, and as you were not at the ECA booth very often, you probably didn't see me run off every free chance to each of the booths to say hi and talk with them. We also had many members of our executive team, including Athena Twin walk around. They also watch the shows to make sure everyone is acting professional and we have meetings that last for hours on end that go into professional images and any situations that arise and so on. As neither you or I are stalkers(?), neither of us can say for a fact what the other person saw because we were not there 24/7 of each day, we can only say what we "think". But if you really want to help what you think can best be said to those that it would really effect, not to a forum of people that don't really care lol.

It only takes once, especially when that convention is one of the biggest in the nation.
My point here isn't to disparage you, nor is it to even really pass judgment on the entire PMS clan; merely the ones that were out-of-line at PAX.

So you want to pass judgment on those that were "out of line" at PAX?
I'm not sure what qualifies you to pass judgment on others and again..opinion; what is out of line to you doesn't automatically make it so.

If your point is to then help us in some way, why post all this in a PMS members intro thread? Why not just send webmaster@pmsclan.com or look up those in our executive team and send them a message saying, "Hey, just to let you know a few girls were doing this or that..which didn't look right, just to let you know" Send me a PM, being the marketing manager of the clan and I take it to the team from there to work on and discuss. You say your point isn't to disparage us or me, but unfortunately that's all you are doing. It's pretty damn depressing when years later I still have to argue about this same thing endlessly and I guess pointlessly to guys who can't see passed their own nose.

I just want to say it's easy to find negatives when it's all you're looking for.

Sorry about derailing your thread Love Angel..I'm not posting about this topic anymore..I get really impassioned and end up making a 3 page post.

Thanks, KN, I wish I had a 2 word vocab too, I wouldn't end up making such long posts.

Games, if you are really serious and are not posting here to disparage us as you say or for some odd reason are posting for the sake of people like KN, then by all mean send me an email and we can continue discussing things there and I can actually use that feedback during our management meeting.

I'm all for promoting women in the games industry and encouraging more female players. But one statement threw me for a total loop, gypsyfly:

But despite what things may look like they are ALL gamers and none are going "Tee hee, look at me".

These two facts are not mutually exclusive. And any time you put young (or even older) women in a position where they are being admired, worshiped or otherwise fawned over by gamer-boys at a game industry conference, there will be those that eat that attention up.

You will never be able to control the behavior of all of your clan members when you participate in these events. But even a handful of members who occasionally engage in this kind of behavior are going to be seen as representing the whole. That's the risk you face when your primary claim to fame isn't being a clan of talented gamers-- your claim is being a clan of talented FEMALE gamers.

Otherwise, more power to you.

Heh, their whole thing is to be like "o hai! i have boobies! (and i game too)", so is it really any surprise that people see them as little more than walking pairs of tits that may or may not be attached to a game controller from time to time? It would be much easier to see such clans in a different light if they were not so focused on the absence of dangly bits between their legs -- a talented clan that just happened to be all or mostly female would command far more respect.

Yes, because, EVERYONE sees us that way including the girls that would normally be too shy to say hi that are now able to talk on a mic or play Halo against a ton of folks. The charities we donate money to also see us as walking boobs too I guess. I suppose since you're a regular on our forums, a member in the clan, and attend every event we do, you're qualified to say how people see us.

So now that there are more woman gaming than guys including those working in the gaming industry and science fields, and since so many woman have placed 1st in competitive games now we should stop our mission and disband, sounds like a great idea.

Hannah, you're never gonna look at any clan a different way because you don't want to.

Again, you look for negative that's all you're gonna see. But thanks for the input!

I know I said I wasn't gonna derail this thread anymore..but since a mod did it...

Why does it matter how many women game or how many place highly in competitions? Those funbags in your shirt don't make you fundamentally different from anyone else, especially on the internet. When I'm playing a game, I'm a gamer. I don't flaunt my gender because it typically isn't relevant -- in fact, I take great pleasure in informing guys that there are no girls on the internet. And yes, I do that over voice too. I like it when guys squirm.

Hannah, that's the point! It shouldn't matter how many place in a competition or work in the gaming industry as engineers or something other than the marketing/PR industry(because apparently if you're a woman that's all you can do). The fact is it does matter...because we are not taken seriously in gaming competitions..even when we place well, woman are not applying for open jobs for the science, math, tech, and gaming industries..why? Woman have so much to give yet, most of the time we're treated like crap and called whiners because we say anything. We try to make a change, we're called b****s. We try to just be, and work for sponsorships for our teams and we're called booth babes and because we have breasts that means we have some type of agenda other than going to these events, working, and having fun seeing our friends. A guy clan could do the same amount of work for sponsorships..as many have done, go to events, and they get called hard working sponsored gamers.

I'm a feminist and it took me being part of this team to realize how strong woman are and how we could most likely take over this world like freaking Amazons if we didn't bicker and argue about everything instead of work together instead of against each other.

Again, I appreciate your opinion..lol at least you're open enough to share it.

But none of them go around going "Look at us! We're guy gamers!".

The fact is that you're using your gender to separate yourself from everyone else- just by claiming a faux-moral high ground rather than (or arguably, as well as) getting your baps out or, better yet- actually performing better.

If you're going ot go out of your way to separate yourself from everybody else, then you're not in a position to complain when you get treated differently.

That's one of the more psycho things I've read on these forums, so I hope you're kidding. There's a difference between wanting equality and being a militant whiner. You're quickly falling into the latter, and losing your credibility along with it.

Gender will always be an issue when you look at people as a group. There is no getting around that. The only chance you have of not making it an issue for YOURSELF is to behave as an individual committed to your passions in life. Don't identify yourself as a member of an all female clan, because the only thing people will pick out is "female". Identify yourself a dedicated gamer committed to promoting your sponsors and your talent, act like a professional, and people won't pay attention to the girl thing so much.

Sarah Palin is a good example of why women fail. People view her as a woman because that's all she really flaunts. You can't take her seriously, because she doesn't put on a professional or competent front. No one really viewed Hilary as "strictly" a woman, because she's hardcore as all hell. There's nothing about her professional and public face that screams "LOOK AT ME I GOT BOOBS! tee hee pew pew!"

Speaking of which. God I love Tina Fey.

Lol, like Constant said it's from Futurama. I'm sure you know it was a joke though, and if that is the most psycho thing you've heard around here....I agree that there's a lot of goodies you've missed.

Look, I do what my mind, heart, and experience dictates not what a tag, a name, or any stranger on any forum dictates for me. I don't call myself a "girl gamer" or a "female gamer" or anything other than a gamer, but I'm not going to feel bad for being proud of my team and friends lol and things that I've been able to accomplish especially being able to work with ECA and meet you friendly folks :p

I played the Star Wars games, but not Indiana, I heard it wasn't as good as well, but I just haven't had a chance to pick it up mainly.

Lego Batman is great, but I was surprised how much we got stuck at puzzles...not because they're challenging, but because they're just so hard to see. And because it's Gotham, it's really dark and you can't see tiny blocks shaking on the floor sometimes.

Anyway, when I jump to grab a rope and they skew the perspective of the camera and I fall a few inches to my death..over, and over and over again and both of us taking turns doing the dying, it's pretty funny when your sleepy. Yeah, Indiana had a lot of jump, then die, then jump again until you figure out where you are supposed to jump too. It takes the shine off the game a bit.

Psycho? It was a death by snu snu reference. Psycho is what the majority of post in OT are.

Gender will always be an issue when you look at people as a group. There is no getting around that. The only chance you have of not making it an issue for YOURSELF is to behave as an individual committed to your passions in life. Don't identify yourself as a member of an all female clan, because the only thing people will pick out is "female".

I would have to disagree, only simple minded children just pick out female. Those who actually have a functioning brain on the other hand will not judge you because everyone in your clan has boobs.

Identify yourself a dedicated gamer committed to promoting your sponsors and your talent, act like a professional, and people won't pay attention to the girl thing so much.

People will always pay attention to the gamer girl thing because it is always made a big deal. A clan of attractive girls who play video games will in cases be used as the sex factor by game companies. Just look at how the Frag Dolls were used by Ubisoft, a lot of gamers especially females began to despise them. There were rumors going around that to join the clan, you had to look a certain way to be considered, looks were taking a front seat to actual talent. People started to call them a gimmick clan used by Ubisoft as eye candy to promote their games.

If anyone makes people pay attention to the girl thing, it is the companies sponsoring them. Take Xbox live for example, their special Girls in Gaming night brings the girls thing right into view. Even the description they give for each girls in gaming night points out that the clan being promoted is an all girl clan more than what game is going to be played. Sadly female gamers are always looked as an oddity and eye candy, no matter how well the play the game companies will always depend more on their sex appeal than anything else to get their **** promoted.

No matter how well you play, no matter how much skill you have a game company will only want to use sex appeal to sell their product. I have nothing against female gamers mind you, hell I could care less about how you look of if your reproductive organs are on the inside of your body. As long as you have my back in a team deathmatch and add to the teams victory it doesn't matter to me what the hell you look like. I could rant about clans too but I will save that for a topic more suited for that subject.

Facts:
Gamers are gamers
Women and men are different
Every person on the planet is an individual.

So, weather you want to be called a "gamer", "female gamer", "Male gamer" It doesnt really matter. We all like to play video games.

Females have different likes and dislikes than men do. Going off the percentages here.. The majority of women like cute fluffy things compaired to the other that do not. Just like the majority of men like hot chicks. This is why people in the marketing field have specific ideas and what not to design add campaigns. Its actually a mathmatical situation. With that being said... Yes, Female gamers and Male gamers are diverse, just as the entire female gamer population is diverse. My question is.. what the hell is the big deal. Girls have boobs and a vah jay jay.. so? There are so many differences here that is really amazes me people say we are seggrogating ourselves because we call ourselves female gamers. Im a female and I game. Either way I dont give a crap who calls me a gamer or a female gamer. I like to play video games. I do like pink and Hello Kitty. Im a mother of 4 boys. Im a military wife. A survivor of many deployments to Iraq, a magazine owner (generated for females), a writer, a cook, a singer, a snowboarder..... on and on.. If you compair that to everyone else in the world.. we might have some similarities and we might not. The fact is... Every single person on the planet is diverse, weather or not you seperate them by male/female. Its just that the majority rules. When you see someone in passing do you say.. that person with the white shirt. Or would you say.. that girl in the white shirt.. and if she was skinny or overweight would that change your description? What is she had black hair instead of blonde? What is she was really tall or really short? My point is that we describe things as we see them. Being called a female gamer is not a bad thing and being put in a demographic where im accused of liking the color pink or fluffy headsets doesnt bother me either. Not because I do, but because I know who I am and what people will see when they look at me because of the majority of other women that are out there.

I was also at PAX, I am a PMS CLan member for 4 years now. I lead the warhammer division and I am very proud of the twins for giving the girls a place to play with eachother. A home of sorts to those who don't have the luxury of getting out and making a bunch of girlfriends. I have over 800+ sisters that I love and respect. I am very happy and love the place I am in.
