I know for sure I couldn't imagine playing Counter-Strike without using a mouse and keyboard, but in some cases, games just seem like they would be better off with a controller.

I haven't seen too much in the world of PC controllers though. What's the deal? Do people still use them?

I have a Logitech gamepad I got for 20 bucks that loosk a bitl ike a PS2 controlle.r I use it for emulators mostly, but I did find a few of my games palyed very well using it. One was Carmageddon 2. It was a nightmare with the keyboard.

There's a market for specialist controllers- flight sticks, steering wheels and whatnot, but most PC games tend to be well-calibrated for M & K play.

That said, I've been hearing many good things about that official 360/PC hybrid pad, and I wouldn't be surprised, given this recent "games for windows" push, it became some kind of de facto standard for PC pads.

(Also, emulators are crap without a pad ;D)

Ye,s yes they are. About the only odd thing my controller does is switch to a stick for Neo Geo games, it uses the D pad for SNES.

Depending on the game and how many options the devs put in it a control pad can be better than a M&KB,but its rare.
Did you know there are M&KB converters for the PS2 and Xbox that elt you take generic mice and KBs and use them as a control pad, there a pain to setup compatibility with mice is a issue but sht to replace a pad with a M & KB for most FPSs is nice.

I use a modded Xbox pad, a Logitech Joystick, and a corded xb360 controller. Games for windows means if you have a xb360 controller hooked up, when you play the game it just works without having to change any settings. Lego star wars 2 is like this and it's awesome.

Soon enough MS will unleash upon the unsuspecting world a device so powerful it will change the way we look at reality forever. That device is: a reciever for using wireless xb360 stuff with the pc.

That makes no sense. I can see an application, like if I have save files from Splinter Cell on my Xbox, I can use those save files for Splinter Cell on PC, but who the hell would NEED that?

All I remember is Gravis.

But that was back in the foggy old 90s

If it weren't for Gravis I would have no idea who Commander Keen is.

You know, a buddy of mine stumbled across an editorial around E3 this year...this guy had apparently modified some controllers for his PC to emulate the Wii's. He apparently claimed it was the best game controller he'd ever used for PC, and couldn't try anything else.

I really think the game genre has a lot to do with the controller you use, as well. For instance, keyboard works best with FPS, but a controller is better for fighting games. I figure it's more a 50/50 thing.

Luckily I'm not the only one with an unseverable mental connection between Keen and Gravis.

Dude. I'm talking about a wireless adapter for using wireless xb360 accessories for the PC. So me and my wife could play lego star wars for pc using the tv and sit at a comfortable distance from it. Same thing goes for the xb360 steering wheel and nfs carbon, etc. Mostly it benefits people who use the tv output on their PCs, and people who don't want any more wires getting all up in their grill.

Well, arcade sticks are the best for fighting games...

And as for why you'd want to transfer saves to a PC, two reasons:
1: Free up space (though not an issue on systems with HD's
2: Back-ups in case the system's HD or memory cards fail.
