View Full Version : STILL says 'site is down'

I cleared my cache a dozen times (firefox 3bRC1) and it's still on the 'site is down, will be back shortly' message. (also tried loading in IE, same result)
What do I do?
I'm pretty sure it's a DNS issue. Your ISP hasn't refreshed it's dns info on this domain yet, so you're being pointed to the old servers. So you can either wait it out (shouldn't be more than 12 hours by now) or switch to something else.
There is absolutely no reason to use your ISP's DNS servers because far better alternatives exist (http://opendns.com/).

Ah. thanks for the heads up... because I KNOW that GP isn't down anymore, but someone forgot to tell my ISP :/

Hey Guys. We need to move some files from the old server in order to preserve all of the old comments and preferences, so you may experience the "site closed" message while certain files are moved. It seems that it's not the case for everyone, which is why some see the message and others don't (that technical expertise is over my head). But rest assured that all of the enhancements should create a more stable environment by COB today, Pacific time.
Thanks again for your patience. We know it's been a tough couple of days, but the transition to multiple servers will suit all of the sites far better.

Whoa a message from the big guy himself? Well that's good to know... I was starting to get concerned because I noticed new stories on my RSS but when I went back to GP I was still getting the 'site's down' message. :(
I guess I can only keep checking back with fingers crossed, but I'll see you when it gets back up!

Thanks for that link! My ISP, Armstrong Cable, is great on customer service and pricing, but a little archaic in how they treat their internet. The DNS servers haven't updated in a week, ever since GP made the swtich. Now it won't matter.

its been days for me but the DNS severs you provided work fine ^^
Yeah, opendns is pretty awesome. It is also the only DNS that allows you to force-refresh DNS info for a domain, instead of waiting for the ttl to expire. Cool ****.
You can do that here (http://www.opendns.com/support/cache/)
