What do you do that your installs get messed up all the time? I've been running this install of XP since may 2005 and it still works great.

running comp 24/7 with no backups ^^
all it takes is one hard crash to screw things over enough you need a reinstall/backup, of coarse windose being windose half those unrecoverable crashes the damage likes to lurk then pounce on you later, also windose likes to bloat over time as well.

I rebooted to see if that was causing me not being able to log in, it fixed my video issues on the escapist site, GP still down for me at least.

Is it just my PC, or is the main website still looking pretty buggy? Of course, today's the first day I've been able to actually use it...

Yeah well, a lot of **** happened in the course of almost no time. Dennis had to put it on the ****ing page.

In short, the entire internet linked GP at once.

Yes. It was a glorious meltdown.

What a way to stress test the new site.

This explains why Fox News puts Jack on TV - the asshat gets ratings.

Ah, who else linked to GP besides Blue's News? Digg? I've seen GP on Blue's News a ton of times, so I figured that wasn't it.

Um... Kotaku, GayGamer, Slashdot, and probably innumerable others.

Back from Server Crash Hell…

May 23, 2008

On Tuesday afternoon, GamePolitics broke the news that a referee appointed by the Florida Supreme Court had recommended that controversial, anti-game attorney Jack Thompson be found guilty of 27 counts of professional misconduct.

The story drew wide attention - more attention, in fact, than our recently-changed server setup could stand. The server went down and mostly stayed down as the story continued to attract readers from links on Digg, Slashdot, Kotaku, Joystiq and numerous other sites.

The good news is that during this time we've moved GamePolitics to a dedicated server. Traffic spikes shouldn't be a problem now.

I apologize for any inconvenience, as well as for not being able to post any news over the last couple of days. Unfortunately, I couldn't access the site, either. It's been a long, long time since a day went by without a single story on GP.

But, like anything that doesn't kill you, this event has made GamePolitics and the ECA stronger. In addition to the server upgrade, we've made some changes in our tech support structure that should result in a more flexible response, going forward.

As always, we look forward to providing you with the most up-to-date reporting and incisive analysis of news that relates to the politics of video games.
