I was wondering if we had any resident Paintballers. I used to play years ago and I am just getting back into it and I had a couple questions.
I currently have a Spyder Xtra 2003, I am looking at getting a new gun and have found a site where I can get a Smartparts Vibe, a hopper, a 48ci 3000psi Aluminum Nitrogen Tank, a Thermal mask and a paintball harness for 263.
Does this look like a good deal to anyone else? Is the gun any good?
and as a general paintball question:
Which do you prefer speedball or woodsball?

I like to do a little of both, for variety's sake. I don't know if I can pick a favorite.

I'm more partial for airsoft, I'm afraid. The realistic weapons and matching uniforms got me hooked.

I've never played airsoft before. I guess it just never really interested me very much.
Then again paintball never did until I played it once, after that I was hooked.

I do both, but paintball's easier to get into games here.

When I play airsoft with my friends, and I corner someone, it comes in handy that I memorize useless things like "Ezekial 23:14" from Pulp Fiction and V's verbiage monologue. The first time, it looks really cool, the second time, it annoys everyone and they beg me to shoot them already.

I'm a fan of woodball. I own 3 Tippmanns, 2 customs and one that just a stock 98. Auto responce triggers on the customs and running compressed air. I find that the wood ball is better, I don't like hiding behind things in speed ball, speed ball is a blower. never been a fan much of that.
me spandex friend, lets make spandex clad babies.

hmmmmmm.....
Enticing.
but to be honest, the image is kinda scary. See:

But back to paintball. I actually prefer speedball, but that might be because I live in the Houston TX area and there aren't a whole lot of wooded areas around, that and Woodsball is more fun with a lot of people (I have played it before but not as much as speedball).
I don't really know too many people that play and have all their own gear. It makes me sad inside:(

Yeah when I first strarted playing it was up in Waldorf, MD and it was woodball. I done speed ball a few times, once at a SAC site in MD. that was a blast. two teams starting at oppisite ends of a two story building, tossing smoke and all. it was great, teams bout 12-20 on each side throughout the day. I like large teams as well. at least 7 peps per and it be fun

That sounds absolutely amazing.
7 people is a good number but the fields around me start to feel a little bit cramped with any more than that.
I feel that 5v5 is good, because it requires each player to work together and gives everyone an opportunity to actually play. It gives enough opportunity so that everyone on the field has a good chance of hitting someone out.
It seems that with larger teams there is just too much paint flying around and no real strategy or team work.

thats the other thing. the fields we played on were massive, one side had old construction equipment, the other butted up to a fire house, there was a small clearing(great for ambush). it had the works. so teams that large cause you had to take on many objectives at the same time.
the SAC site was amazing cause we had the two story building, an old satalitte tower with interion building area and then a field with equipment in it. we had the perfect setup. the other thing is have a team setup in the area and the other team, clear. that takes real team work. we ran in squads of three, to on point one on rear and suqad leaders using walkies to talk.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."
I love vengful wrathful gods, they get so jealous of others and smitith thee.
"Voilą! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengence; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."
