Teen accused in school bomb plot made 'farewell' audio tape

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/21/school.bomb.plot/

An 18-year-old South Carolina student was in jail Sunday after he collected bomb-making supplies, including ammonium nitrate, in a plan to attack his high school, authorities said.
Ryan Schallenberger, 18, faces a bond hearing Monday afternoon.

http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/.element/img/2.0/mosaic/base_skins/baseplate/corner_wire_BL.gif

Ryan Schallenberger was arrested Saturday after his parents called police when 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate, an oxidizing agent in explosives, was delivered to their home in Chesterfield, near the North Carolina border, Chief Randall Lear of the Chesterfield Police Department told CNN.

Great start to the week, huh?

Twenty years after DNA fingerprints were first admitted by American courts as a way to link suspects to crime scenes, a new and very different class of genetic test is approaching the bench.

Rather than simply proving, for example, that the blood on a suspect's clothes does or does not match that of a murder victim, these "second generation" DNA tests seek to shed light on the biological traits and psychological states of the accused. In effect, they allow genes to "testify" in ways never before possible, in some cases resolving long-standing legal tangles but in others raising new ones.

Heck, why limit it to courts? Gattaca anyone?

Didn't they try this before in the past? But instead of DNA showing how demented someone was it was how their head was shaped, how close the ears were to the head and how the eyes reacted to light?

This just in, the "Evil Gene" discovered in new DNA tests. Soon we will have soul analysis to justify the presence of "pure evil"

Wow it's 1984. We can't teach High Schoolers that Condoms prevent pregnancy but we can use DNA evidence to tell when someone will commit a crime in the future.

If judges are smart, they will never allow DNA tests for violent dispositions into court. How the hell are you supposed to defend yourself against that? How can you prosecute someone when they use a retarded "ghost-in-the-machine" defense?

Not related to law... Genetic testing will have a much bigger impact in the insurance industry. When testing becomes cheap, they will be able to test buyers of middle and high coverage policies. On the upside, it will reduce adverse selection. On the downside.... well, Gattaca.

Good movie, by the way.

I think there was a big to do about the "violence" gene and how it could be inherited awhile back. It was believed that, for example, a child of rape would be genetically predisposed to be violent, if not a rapist, in the future.

Of course, being told that, the person would become rather screwed up in the head anyway, so how could one tell if the genes were to blame?

The gun-free "zone" thing is an interesting one- it's easy to claim that all the shootings are happening within these gun-free zones, but if the places where you are allowed guns were further away- ie the entire state went gun-free- would we see the same effect?

LAKE WORTH, Florida (AP) -- A Florida teenager faces a charge of elder abuse alleging he made his senile grandmother wear a black mask and hold a handgun for a video he made.

Police in Lake Worth, Florida, say the 85-year-old woman is seen and heard on the video threatening to shoot "all the pigs."

Authorities say 18-year-old Michael Alfinez was arrested Monday and charged with abusing an elderly person, discharging a firearm in public and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon.

Palm Beach County sheriff's detectives seized the video during a traffic stop in January.

The teen's mother says it's all just a misunderstanding

Uhhhh....how can they prove they forced her? Maybe she did it to spend time with her grandson. Ten to one they are just pissed because she says "Kill the Pigs". Just like the cops stopping people for having the "Bad cop no donut" bumper sticker and giving them BS tickets.

Read the Artical.

"It's horrible, loud and irritating," said Eddie Holder, 15, who sprinted from his apartment for school one morning covering one ear with his hand to block out the noise. The device was installed outside the building to drive away loiterers. "I have to hurry out of the building because it's so annoying. It's this screeching sound that you have to get away from or it will drive you crazy."

It's installed in an apartment building and on 24/7. This thing would drive infants insane, then it would drive the parents to kill the owners of the building. I mean, I would have no way of knowing this thing is around, but my daughter would end up crying unceasingly.

There should at least be signage in the affected areas.

They are affixed to the buildings themselves, which are private property. The fact that their effect 'leaks' onto the sidewalk is regrettable, but in no way illegal.

Of course, they wouldn't have much more of a point if it was in a public place. Civil rightsfags seem to have an odd concept of what rights you have in public. Some deem it possible for privacy to be infringed there.

How these people are able to dress themselves properly and exit their houses each day is a mystery to me.

Perhaps in Ron Paul land this is the case, but there are many, MANY cities/principalities/counties/etc where the local government builds/maintains/pwns the sidewalks and are public domain. This is why skating on sidewalks can be banzored in Long Beach, this is why the County maintains the area around its sidewalks so well, if a tree root screws up the sidewalk and someone trips and falls into traffic, Riverside County would pay all the bills.

A 16-year-old boy asked for help obtaining a TEC-DC9 9mm pistol, saying it would be “awesome” to use the same weapon as the Columbine killers in carrying out mass murders in two states on Sept. 11, a prosecutor said.

The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was scheduled to appear Friday for a hearing in juvenile court. He was being held at a juvenile detention center.

Authorities detained the teen Tuesday on an initial charge of intimidation, St. Joseph prosecutor County Michael Dvorak said. His office was preparing charges of conspiracy to commit murder after authorities found more than 100 knives at the boy’s home, Dvorak said.

Authorities also found several illegal snakes at the teen’s home in Mishawaka, about 10 miles east of South Bend, Dvorak said.

Police searched the student’s locker, backpack, home and laptop computer and found notebooks in which he wrote about killing a large number of people. They found he had searched the Internet on Monday for how to make propane tank bombs and for a reference guide on how to make explosives and other dangerous devices, Dvorak said.

All this yahoo is doing is harming Baracks image, I still lean to Obama but at this point and time I am so jaded with politics I just might waste my vote.

Meh... I'd rather live in a society that fears weapons than a society that fears living without them.
The gun issue aside...

That's not the point I was trying to make. Maybe I should have elaborated... There are a whole bunch of other parallels I could draw to this -- from drug laws to zero tolerance to airport security -- all of which are retardedly retarded.

Also, that's a false dichotomy and platitude. I'd rather live in a well-adjusted society than one that fears a stripper with a stick. Because that's basically what this is. It's illegal to carry a black stick, because it can be used as a weapon. White sticks, blue sticks, and brown sticks are okay. It's the black sticks with handles that you have to watch out for.

Now, I'm gonna rant to everyone here for a bit.

Weapon laws in general are pointless. The only time anyone is arrested for breaking the law is when, A: the guy tells the cop he has one, or B: he's being searched because of a completely unrelated crime. And occasionally, the police like to violate civil rights by busting into a room and searching everyone there.

The law may make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but you guys are deluded if you think they have any effect other than putting strippers into prison.

And if anyone feels like looking, there's a whole bunch of retarded ass-backwards stuff out there. New York City PD once advised women to use a nail file to protect themselves against attackers. Now you may ask, "why not just use a knife?" Well you see, knives are dangerous.

You can stab someone with a nail file, but a knife will get you a court date. Never mind that both individuals committed the exact same act with the exact same result.

See? Not even KN is afraid of lurkers with weapons.

Thankyou!

Edit: hell, I bet KN is so badass that he doesn't mind sharing a plane with dude armed with nail clippers either. And he's also proud to live in a country that has (partially) realized that marijuana prohibition doesn't work.

I am also not scared of the colour pink

I also meant that it is extremely unlikely that a mere robber or crazy person can afford a gun on the black market (if they can even find it), rather than being able to buy one legally, or easier, steal one due to their omnipresence in places. Knives of course, are a different matter, but the thing is that you can RUN AWAY FROM KNIVES.

PS: I'm going to bed now

The most annoying thing is when he said "(Obama) is just saying what he has to say, he's a Politician, and I can say what I can say as a preacher...".

That really pissed me off, what gives him the right to assume that Obama agrees with everything he says? I'm pretty sure I know one Politician who won't be paying tithes at that church anymore.

My point being some laws and rules are made just to mind fck with the populace and give a appearance of something is being done.

Oh, I forgot all about pepper spray. I'm gonna rant about this and then leave it alone.

In some countries, it is illegal to possess pepper spray designed for use against humans. However, it is okay to possess pepper spray designed for use against animals. Not only that, but it's also completely legal to use animal spray against humans (in self-defense, of course).

I scratch my head trying to figure this out.

And these laws get even more ridiculous in the United States where pepper spray is an alternative to a handgun. There are people here who think it's a good idea to outlaw alternatives to handguns! wtf?

Lynchings in Congo as penis theft panic hits capital

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.

Reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur.

(http://new.us.music.yahoo.com/blogs/thelefsetzletter/1005/american-idol)God that show and So You Think You Can Dance are practically the only prime time shows I let my kids watch, they're like the old talent quiz shows of the 70's just jazzed up a bit, and the people are more talented than the ones back then.
