View Full Version : EA a monopoly
I think that EA might be a monopoly if it acquires take two. They are the only company that actively trys to make sports games that are in direct competition with EAs. If EA takes Take Two then they can set the price drops that often occur in sports games only a few months after they come out.
I have a full post on my blog about it, read it at:

comments are welcome
Mods if you know how to submit this to GP itself I think it might be a story worth covering in some sense.

Fun fact: a lot of the people making games for Take Two are refugees from EA and vise versa. Turnover is high throughout the game industry, and people with experience making sport games are very likely to find jobs doing more of the same.

explain please:)
I worked as an intern for a few months at a small game company developing a baseball game (The Bigs) for 2K Sports. Almost everyone at the company had previously worked at EA, and many of them had experience working on EA baseball games. They either got laid off or just got sick of the **** that EA is always pulling, and since they had experience developing sports games, where else would they go?
i was under the idea that 2k was owned by take two, was i wrong?

No, Take Two does own 2K. You're right.
On the other hand, I think saying that EA wants to acquire Take Two to stifle competition is like saying that someone wants a sandwich because they are hungry: it almost goes without saying.

Of course, it wouldn't work, because the opposing shareholders could just pull in the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.

Does anyone even play EA sports games anymore? I mean the only thing that changes from one year to the next is multiplayer is hardly functional after the new game has come out. Aside from that the games is practically the same, sure they might add "Create a shoe mode" or allow players to "Trade custom end zone dances" with each other but it is still the same game as you bought last year.

Heh, yeah. Sports fans will buy anything with the appropriate license slapped on. Clueless parents are another big market -- they're a pretty safe and easy bet if junior likes any given sport.

Agree'd. BTW, if the government refuses to take any measures to stop the Oil Industry from jacking fuel prices up high enough to cripple the economy, why the hell would they do anything to EA?

no sht, whats damaging the economy is the gas prices, the more they go up the more damage will be done because people wont be able to buy as much and spend money to keep things running, screw the world we need gas at no more than 2.50 a gallon, they should lock it for the next 15 years and move us to compressed hydrogen in less than 20, the government has the power to offset most of the gas price cost, if they do nothing we are in for a fckign depression!
rant mode over 900000!
