Zippy - are you asking what tags (or, "categories" as they are referred to under Wordpress) do? They will call up every article so tagged... Here are the current GP tags (from the right sidebar - the number is the # of articles with that tag. An article can have multiple tags, and most do):
Categories
Barack Obama (2)
Bully (2)
Controversial Games (649)
Counter-Strike (1)
Court Cases (180)
DMCA (36)
E3 2007 (12)
ECA (69)
First Amendment (41)
Game Consumer News (463)
Game Decision 2008 (100)
Gamers at War (21)
Gamers Doing Good (52)
Games & Culture (853)
Games & Education (37)
Games & Environment (2)
Games & Health (92)
Games & the Law (83)
GTA IV (6)
Jack Thompson (159)
Mass Effect (18)
Media (200)
People (584)
Politics & Legislation (721)
Presidential Debate Videos (21)
Second Life (45)
Serious Games (23)
Video Game Critics (701)
Video Game Industry/Economics (488)
Video Game Research (115)
If you click on one, you'll get all the articles. A question that I get frequently concerns video game research. So click on that. Go ahead, do it now. I'll wait...
.....
........okay, see?
They aren't entirely up to date in the case of newer tags. I just added Barack Obama and Bully and COunter-strike and GTA 4 recently because I wanted more specificity. Previously Barack would have been encompassed under some of the political tags, most likely "Game Decision 2008" Bully would have been under "Controversial Games" ...but I wanted to break some of this out more specifically. Finally, I love to have way more tags, but this Wordpress format, which I otherwise like a lot, does not show me a way to hide the categories, so I get an ever-expanding list in the sidebar. So I try not to make it too, too long.
Hope this helps.
Oh - you can also search the old LJ GP by tag (also linked in sidebar under GP Archives) http://gamepolitics.livejournal.com/tag/ ...so for a specific topic, just add the terms you are looking for (say, Jeb Bush): http://gamepolitics.livejournal.com/tag/jeb+bush ...you could also try Bush, with different results: http://gamepolitics.livejournal.com/tag/bush
The main problem with the old GP was that I didn't become aware (duh!) of the LJ tag feature until maybe 6-8 months into running the site (we began March 05, tags came into use in the fall sometime)...

Zippy,
You want tags to do stuff on the GP. Here you go:
For italics or emphasis:
<i>italics</i> or <em>italics</em>
For bold or strong:
<b>bold</b> or <strong>bold</strong>
For quoting:
<blockquote>Quote</blockquote>
For Links in same window:
<a href="URL">Link text</a>
For Links that open in new window:
<a href="URL" target="_blank">Link text</a>
