How much you want to bet this is the lead story on the T.V. newscasts on Fox News tonight?
Headline according to the foxnews.com homepage:
Video Gamers Leave Baby to Die
Actual Article (once you get into it, written by the Associated Press)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,331732,00.html
Video games are mentioned ONCE at the bottom among a list of things these jerks did instead of take care of their baby:
During the eight days the baby was strapped in the seat, both Hermann and Sargent were home, "playing video games, watching TV, feeding and caring for themselves," Lyons said. Second to last paragraph.
The AP titles the article:
Parents of Baby Left Alone In Car Seat For Eight Days Face Murder Charges
Foxnews titles the article on their homepage
Video Gamers Leave Baby To Die

Now it says "Parents Played as Baby Died" Yeah they probably had time for a few games in between hits of Heroin..there's definitely more to this than meets the eye, that kid would have screamed the house down, they must have been out a lot of that time..or out cold more likely.

If they can put hateful spin in it, they'll report about it. You can be sure about that.

It seems that they quickly changed the title. Now, if you go to their page, the actual title is : Parents of Baby Left Alone in Car Seat for 8 Days Face Murder Charges.

I believe in most states it is illegal to leave your child in a car alone. Some states, such as Oklahoma, give you 15 minutes if the car is off, but you can't leave your kid alone for any amount of time if the car is running.
It is strict and there have been some problems. A lady here in OK left her car running with the child in it at home. She was running in to get her purse or something like that and the car was stolen and then abandoned about a block later when the thief noticed the kid.
Long story short, she was charged with child neglect. I am not sure what happened after that, but it would suck.

Most if not all states will not permit a parent to leave a child alone in a house or a car unless 13 years of age or older. The main idea is to prevent a child from suffering from heat exhaustion. They guy in this case is just being negligent and doesn't have a good sense of responsibility.

If you leave a child in a car where I live you'll come back to find your window broken, the child in the arms of a policeman and a crowd of glaring onlookers. Its a big no - no here because of the hot climate, we had a couple of high profile cases of parents going off to gamble, losing track of time and returning to the car to find the above scenario only the children were dead. Whats worse is when both parents think that the child is with the other parent and go off to do errands or whatnot leaving the child strapped in the car seat, thats happened here a few times too.

I did read a case where a parent abandoned their child in a Radioshack for a full day while the parent went down the street to go drinking.
I know it's not a hot car scenario but that doesn't make it any better. Hell, kids have also been left in Gamestops while the "parent" went and did what they wanted.

This doesn't surprise me that they blamed video games. I usualy take the Barry Bonds approach. I blame the media for all of life's problems.
