I agreed. the AO rating has really not been a rating and more of a ban hammer.

I agree, if you want a way to kill open mindedness and stop all forms of expression(that you or someone else don't see fit), then create a trickle system that will only release what you think socity can handle

A/O rating bugs me.. I mean, I'm not the best person to vouch for it here I'm sure, but still. I feel adults should be allowed to play what they want. Now, I'm all for extremely violent games, or flat out porn-related games. I'd probably play both, or maybe some sort of Halo that rewards you with boobs, but your bullets decapitate the enemies to make it extra violent somehow, either way. I feel adults should be allowed free access to what they want, and developers should be allowed to pursue whatever idea they have for a game. Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo need to stop being whiney bastards and let AO games on consoles. Maybe keep saying no to porn games, or just make it so they won't be stocked in stores (which, we all know wouldn't be hard.) so that it doesn't ruin their image. People buy DVDs. Porn is on DVD. Uber-Violent stuff is on DVD. Never stopped Disney from putting their movies on DVDs.

I just noticed my chunk of text makes very little sense.. if someone wants to better word it feel free.

TL;DR
Let the market decide what content they want in games.

Agree'd. Customers should tell the industry what they want, not the other way around.

Lets just encourage the notion that games that feature guns, fighting or..."boobs" are not for kids, I posted this opinion in another thread but..why not just exclude minors from ANY game which features ANY violence or adult themes? Kids just dont need to be playing games that involve warfare or horror or sex. Let them play driving and sports games, platformers and puzzle games, be unambiguous about what is appropriate and what is not. Before anyone jumps on the freedom of choice/ expression/ speech bandwagon its generally accepted in western countries that children are not accorded adult privileges until the age of 18, adult themed games should be a privilege like voting, driving, seeing an R rated movie or entering licenced premises. I dont think anyones bottom line would be affected by only selling kids games to kids and adult games to adults.
And with regard to the consoles why not just have a system where the machine wont play the disc until you enter an admin user code or a DVD key number, if the retailer checks ID on the purchase then thats all that can reasonably be done.

In America there is no law saying that kids cannot see R-rated films, it is merely an agreement amongst theaters that they will not allow kids in.

In Australia they're supposed to ask for ID but I cant recall anyone being prosecuted for allowing minors in to see a R film. Its the same with cigarettes nobody under 18 is supposed to buy them but kids still smoke. Stupid parents will always let their kids do stupid things, but responsible, if uninformed parents will do the right thing if they have the correct labelling information. It'd be interesting to do a survey of console/ PC owning families to see if they know about or indeed use the parental controls.
I set up user profiles on our computer for the kids, they can't access websites or programs that I haven't added to their list, no email, no MSN..its a simple step and it takes about two minutes to do.

AO is worthless unless the big 3 allow it on their systems.

Nintendo learned that the hard way with the N64, and Sony is in the process of learning it, if they can see past the PS3 and see their mistakes.
