EA responds in a letter to Fox News on their smearing of Mass Effect (http://kotaku.com/348187/ea-calls-fox-out-on-insulting-mass-effect-inaccuracies)

Not sure why this isn't on GamePolitics yet. Figured it would be. Good stuff.

Damn, I never thought I'd say this:
Way to go EA. We need more game companies ready to legally **** up those who blatantly lie about games to push their bull**** agendas!

The letter pointed out all the errors we and Geoff have been saying all this time. EA couldn't have said it better.

Now, what are the chances of Fox actually replying to the publisher's rocket?

They will probably just run with a story about how EA is threatening them over their fair and unbiased story.

Seems odd to be cheering on EA.. but go EA

Anyone who gets blatantly as lied about as they had deserve a little justice, even EA.

1. So Fox is going to intentionally show everybody how biased they are. You know, most news groups I know would try to do the opposite.
2. Two wrongs make a right?

If nothing else, this whole situation gives me a great new topic to bring up in my Facebook group "Parents For Education, Not Legislation".

Of course, it's not like anyone actually has JOINED, let alone READS what I've written so far. But, hey, what the heck. :)

Oh, this is interesting.

FOX News is claiming they invited EA reps to show up on Live Desk and that EA gave no response.

And they think we'll believe them... why?

Do you know what? I’ve just had one of the most significant epiphanies I have EVER had. So strong is it that I’m going to copy this post (originating at Gamepolitics.com under the article about EA’s response to the FOX News story about the game “Mass Effect”) and I’m going to post it to several other blogs. Moreover, I’m going to email this post to several individuals, including Dennis at GP, Hal Halpin at the ECA, and even Mr. Brown at EA. Will anything come of it? Maybe. Maybe not. But I’m going to do it anyway.

Here’s the thing. This FOX News report… it was a GOOD thing. Do you know WHY it was a GOOD thing? Simple: we get to cram it down the throats of a number of high ranking and out spoken individuals, organizations, and government groups who DIDN’T comment, let along CONDEMN the quality of the news report.

We’ve heard time and again from politicans such as Leland Yee (CA) or Senator Burrell (LA), and many others from Utah to NY. Organizations such as the PTC (Parent’s Television Council) or the CSM (Common Sense Media) or even NIMF (National Institute on Media and the Family). We’ve heard from the self-righteous such as John Bruce “Jack” Thompson or the conspiracy theorists such as Lyndon LaRouche.

We’ve heard them all say how the ESRB does not properly research the games they rate. That the ESRB doesn’t properly inform Parents so they can make appropriate choices for their children. We constantly hear how harried Parents are and how they supposedly don’t have the appropriate resources to make wise decisions. We hear condemnation upon condemnation against the gaming industry. We hear condemnation upon condemnation against gamers themselves. We hear condemnation upon condemnation against reviewers and game news sites. We hear the cry of moral superiority over everything that is computer and video games. We hear claims that only the government can make the appropriate decisions for Parents as to what is or is not appropriate, whether it’s in regards to video games or media in general.

But, WHERE ARE THEY NOW??? FOX News knowingly and INTENTIONALLY aired false information. Everyone at FOX News knew it. Proven just by the few statements allowed by Geoff Keighley, Cooper Lawrence had, in effect, openly lied. And other panelists aided in those lies. But where is the condemnation by politicians against FOX News for knowingly and intentionally LYING TO PARENTS who watched that story? Where is the condemnation against FOX News by the organizations and the self-righteous individuals?

They are all silent. Someone claims that video games are responsible for a crime, and the chatter from politicians, organizations, and the self-righteous never ends. FOX News lies to Parents about video games… and you could hear immortal crickets chirping on the moon.

I say this should be the battlecry. Not simply us screaming about and to FOX News and Cooper Lawrence. But us screaming “WHERE ARE -YOU-!” to those politicians, organizations, and self righteous individuals who’ve remained silent so far. I say if they have so much condemnation for us and our interests, then maybe we should have condemnation for their SILENCE.

I say not only should individuals be sending intelligent, respectful CONDEMNATIONS to their politicians, those organizations (and others) mentioned, and the self-righteous individuals mentioned (and others not mentioned), but so should our organizations such as the ECA, the VGVN (who until now has appeared as nothing more than a mouth piece), EA, even the ESA, among others.

I say it’s time we pointed a few spotlights on those who failed to condemn FOX News’ actions.

Don't insult real douche bags (of the medical sort) - they at least have a real and very healthy use.

Fox is just plain unhealthy for your sanity, like a painless lobotomy.

Actually, you could argue it's the same if you read the Daily Mail full stop.

Never read the Daily Mail. I don't read Fox News for it's editoral content. I'll provide everyone with a dramatic reenactment of my reason for having Fox News as my home page. Back in the summer of 2001, I had the New York Times as my home page...

"Ooh, an article about how playing Diablo II brings kids and parents together."
(clicks on article)
You must register with The New York Times to read this article
"I'm already a member!" (grumbles and enters password)
"Ah, news about Pixar's next movie!"
(clincks on article)
You must register with The New York Times to read this article
"But I'm already a member!" (grumbles and enters password again)

Repeat above scenario with slight variation endlessly. After the 578th time I was told I must be a member despite already being one, I switched to CNN, and then Fox News a week later because I didn't like CNN's layout.

Yeah, that's why I don't read the NYTimes. I stopped reading CNN because of the annoying pop unders that would show up every time I went to a new page.

I stopped reading Fox News after about 6 months when it started to dawn on me that they will post a rumor and never follow up on it. The main story to bring that to light was the story they posted about the Lakota Indians pulling out of their treaties with the US and forming their own country. No other news site reported on this (you would think that it would be big enough to be on the front page for weaks). Fox News never brought it up again. No clarification. No retraction. No updates. Nothing.

So I stopped reading Fox News.

Now I read MSNBC (because they have decent coverage of games and technology), Reuters, and Time. I also read the site for my local news paper.

I read Digg and then use the Diggtard theory to figure out whether it's real/good news or not.

If it gets a ****load of diggs really fast, it's either about video games, Apple, Linux, it's getting gamed, or it's about Ron Paul. I like the interesting little articles that someone puts up there to be thoughtful and then sink into obscurity.

Just don't read the comments. Never read the comments.

I also watch the ****ing news unlike some of you.

You know I would feel kinda dirty, almost like a hypocrite, if I sat there talking about how nasty and morally wrong this game was..AND I was doing it from a Fox station, actually a Fox anything.

Isn't Fox like the trailer trash kin to all the other broadcast channels.

Didn't they air Hell's Kitchen with more profanity then all my M rated games put together. Hmmm, "BLEEPS Kitchen" maybe.

How morally right is a show called Married by America where TV voters call in to vote for contestants who then have to get married on air? They were actually fined for one episode because how sexually suggestive it was.

Who's Your Daddy? puts an adult who's been adopted into a room with 25 men and they have to pick out who their biological father for $100,000 if not the person incorrectly picked get's the money. After one episode, it was canceled.

Oh, and Battle of the Bods and Temptation Island. 'Nuff said, real quality stuff there. I could go on...but all I have to say is I hate them for canceling Sliders and anything with Bruce Cambell in it.

You can blame Gail Berman for the cancellation of Firefly and Futurama. She was the chairperson of Fox Entertainment when these shows were on, and didn't like the content of the shows. Berman preferred riding on the wave of reality shows, saying that they deal with issues people can relate with, and therefore would be more popular.

Then Futurama got the "death slot" of 7pm Eastern time, and the episodes got backlogged so bad that by the end of the series, the entire fifth season was actually consisted of fourth season production episodes. All in all, Gail Berman just hated the sci-fi genre.

Futurama comes on here during Adult Swim which is after 10pm on weeknights. It is late enough that few stay up to watch it but also late enough that little to nothing competes. Death from apathy I suppose
