Did you expect any different from Fox news? I mean anyone and I mean anyone who claims themself as a psychology expert I look down on. They seem to think everyone behaves exactly the same. WTF is up with her citing the "New" Research? Yeah and nobody mentioned the counter study that proves it false? I love how they end it there with the bitch psychologist getting the final say. When Geoff asked "Have you ever played Mass Effect" and she responded with a no, the argument should of been over right then and there. If she was really a "Professional" and not some talk show shrink she would of researched the game to get the full grasp on it.
And WTF is with the ESRB slamming "This game should be rated AO, that is the highest rating out there. The group who rates these games needs to have their heads examined." Yeah, so it shows a glimpse of a side boob and an ass shot. Yeah total hardcore porn there. Only the guy on the end made a lick of sense when he said that we should not censor everything and it comes down to the parents to limit what their children do. I laughed though when the host said "Yeah unfortunately", OMG lady you have to be a parent. I know hard work raising a child, especially when they are as ignorant as you who thinks it is unfortunately you have to set the rules for them.

A topic that's always come up in lousy news reporting. It's not just Fox. CNN is guilty of this, and TV shows like Law and Order always seem to include some ridiculous misguided comment on video games and gamers in general.
And the reason is always the same. We gamers are taking away precious ratings from TV time, and over the past decade, it seems to have hurt a bit. News stations like Fox fondle the fear associated with parents not knowing what the kids are doing and playing. At best for a TV network, this will make a parent take away the games from the home and never allow them back into the house, thinking that little johnny is thumb masturbating to violence in the privacy of his room. Now little johnny can instead do what Fox wants him to do: sit and watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. And his parents would be none the wiser because stupidity is easy.
This becomes apparent in news segments as the "reporters" use words like "dangerous", "unhealthy" & "pornographic" all the while admitting that they know nothing about this new era of video gaming. This particular oh-so important news flash about Mass Effect is manipulated by a team of TV writers and producers there to push a hot button made up of lies.

I thought that was Anon's handiwork.
On a side note, Cooper strikes me as one horribly misinformed "psychology specialist." And she looked annoyingly haughty, almost arrogant.
Kudos to Geoff to for shooting her argument out of the water with some level-headed retort of his own.
As for the rest of the panel after that "debate.."
Meh, they can jump into a lake for all I care. Preferably full of mutated Sea Bass

And then anon and games will be both used as reasons the internet should be regulated.

You can't regulate the internet. Not even Bill Gates can regulate the internet.

Heck, not even Al Gore can regulate the internet, and he invented it!
Back on topic though, i was completely stunned by this. I don't know how the guys at Fox are thinking, or if they're even thinking at all. It can't be good publicity to let this bullsh*t on the air. And don't get me started on the (hopfully few) parents who actually believe this.
It was great to see Geoff blast away the opposition, though.
I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised by this, Fox, CNN, NBC, they're all full of dishonest yellow journalist tripe (Fox a bit more obviously so).
And don't even get me started on things Law & Order has problems with, those go waaaaay beyond games (for instance, the idea that it is nessesary *and* desireable for the police to violate constitutional rights is a prominent theme throught the show, as well as a disturbing tendancy for the show [well SVU anyway] to paint defense attorneys and other legal advocates in a decidedly negetive light [to put it mildly]).

Sigh.
I hate it when people paint gamers and evil. Its disgusting, really. This won't be an issue in 30 years when the 18-25 crowd is now the ones in power, and this type of stuff will become part of the culture with minimal challenge.
Its how this stuff works.

So we have to wait for our kids to come to power before its the norm. My 6 year old already makes more sense than most of the people rating games

I found something about that study the stuck-up woman mentioned: apparently the woman (http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/its_not_just_a_game/) who conducted the study is slightly biased.
EDIT: Still no luck finding the actual study though.

This site (http://writergarage.wordpress.com/2008/01/22/confusing-fantasy-with-reality/) does explain the study.
Man this is starting to really piss me off
The results of this study seem to suggest that that more serious gamers disregard what they see in games. Of course rather than this being proof that they aren't affected by the games it’s taken as a tacit admission of acceptance of the negative aspects of the game.
**** these people annoy me.
