As we all know, anti-gaming activists often cite "studies" to prove that games are teh devil. Does anyone actually have a link to those studies? Or rather, a link to a serious study about the effects of violent video games on children.

Generally no, they are the moral superiors to all on this planet... what reason would they have to lie?

Well, you could always email them saying your doing a study on home video games lead to violent behaviour and do you have any studies I could use? But, they'll probably just tell you to use their website.

Anyone can appeal to authority, and there's generally little that can be done to discourage the idiocy, except trying to get the truth out first.

Curious as to what you define a 'serious study' as.

Are there any particular ones that you are wanting? I have quite a few on my computer, on both sides of the issue.

Sorry :(

Studies i define as "serious" are those that are done by someone who doesn't take any sides; not the gamers' side nor the anti-gamers'. I've been searching all around the intarwebs for a reliable study, but they've all been flawed or incomplete in one or several ways.

Well they are all going to be flawed in some matter, it is the nature of (psychological) research. Study is done, flaws pointed out, others counter against said flaws etc :)

The ethics committees probably would not let us take children from a young age and subject them to violent games etc and then let them loose in the world :)

Anyways, I have some of the studies done by Anderson, Bushman, Gentile etc and others on both sides of the issues, if you think they are what you are after, leave your email, they will be too big to attach as a post :)

So (correct me if I'm wrong) I'll just post my email and you'll mail me the studies?

Yep.

Can't attach them because the size limit for attachments is too small so email it has to be.

Allright. Send them to necromancist@hotmail.com.

however you have to take into account that when studies like this are done they are blown out of proportion by the media, what the BBC shows you is nowhere near what it is actually like

Yeah, I'll try to take that into consideration.

What's bugging me is that these studies generally aren't accessible from the source itself, but only from news sites and the like.

Well the editors etc of the journals which the studies are sent to to be published and reviewed need to make money somehow :)

Sites like sciencedirect (not so much them though) where you can get access to them sometimes have periods of free access, so it is just a case of looking for such sites and waiting.

Also websites for the journals sometimes have a freely accessible archive section.

Or you just access them through your college/university during the school year .

Sent the articles too. Sorry for the delay.

It is tough to find reliable studies as most are biased or improperly randomized. Most of these studies are not true experiments but rather observational studies.
