Hi,

I study cultural sciences in the netherlands, and i want to write an essay on video games & violence.

i'm a gamer myself, and oppose the link between video games & violence.

my question is,

has the following ever been proven by hard evidence:

"Playing violent video games leads to real life violence"

and if so link my to that research pls.

hmm, well there is no real link, only the ones that sensationalist media jockeys and politicians will try to sell you, the only realistic effect that videogames may have on a killer is influence the way that he kills, not if he kills or not, and this is partially theoretical, someone who is going to kill is going to kill regardless of the videogame factor, however if he has played condemned, his method may be different, he may opt to bash their skull in with a rebar rather than just snap their neck or something of that nature, hope that helps!

I recently came across this study (http://businessshrink.biz/psychologyofbusiness/2008/01/08/watching-violence-and-porn-could-reduce-violent-crime-and-rape/). Basically the Columbia University Medical Center exposed participants to violent images and other media, while monitoring their brain functions. The general trend was that violent media tends to decrease the impulses in the brain that can lead to rape and murder.

Its not directly talking about violence in video games, but its the same general idea.

Not completely sure. I haven't watched/read Clockwork Orange in years and have forgotten most of it.

Also, theres also seems to be a direct pattern between attendance to graphic movies and violent crime statistics. Basically, when ever a violent movie comes out it draws in all the violent criminals of the streets and gives them a distraction.

yeah, you can definitely imagine all of the gangsters in the 'hood putting down their nines and AKs to go and watch AVP-R upon release, hmm maybe not...

But is it too much to ask?
