View Full Version : Why is buddha messaging me?

The Question
01-14-2008, 07:00 AM
A user of these forums named "buddha" just pmed me. Looks like spam, but I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with him before? And also, if there is somewhere I should report this?

He claims he is new here (does have 0 posts) and yet has banned underneath his name (I assume this is NOT user choice). Also, an attempt to reply was met with the message that he does not accept pms.

I really wish I had read your reply first this morning. I deleted the message first unfortunately. PADRES294, can you help me out and send GP a copy please?

Hi,
I'm new here, how's it going?

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things as a meaningful unity" - Albert Einstein

We are not the only forum getting this:

http://www.albanian.com/community/vbl/showthread.php?t=15105
http://wearesc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27898
http://www.dallasdancemusic.com/forums/useless-blabber/248802-buddhist-spam-ddm.html

I say we just ignore it if you wish. The link is dead anyways, so it could be just a massive joke bot.

Just a kick to remind people.

If you get a spam private message, forward it on to a mod. We'll deal with it from there. Unfortunately there's no "report this post" button for PMs.

I don't mind, this is benign spam....I would just leave him be.

This Buddha has already met the ban hammer (I have gotten 2 PMs from him and got curious and found he had already been banned) not sure what else there is to do except ignore it with dignity. Lacking said dignity you can always send a bitting reply, but aside from minor amusement this would seem rather pointless.

Really, what's so menacing or disruptive about this qoute?

I think you might be missing the point here. Spam is spam. This person was was banned and my understanding is they do not do this without cause. It is also an invasion of privacy. Its not the content but the format..
