After reading through the sheer amount of trash on this forum, I couldn't help but sign up and tell you guys the truth about what is happening in this country.

Murder rates have gone up and gun violence has gone up as well in the past 20 years. Virginia Tech, the shootings in Omaha, etc etc. These shootings have all been done by younger people. And what was your first experience with a gun? At the range with your father? Plinking some targets? Or ripping through some friends in Halo with a sub machine gun?

The state of affairs is truly disgusting in this country. Jack Thompson is one man that can save the video game industry as we know it. We need legislation NOW banning violent video games from going on sale, encouraging games that are beneficial to our children. Games that are centered around the Bible, Christianity, or family games (board games, other nonviolent ways of having fun) will be produced in greater qualities and games like Grand Theft Auto will become extinct.

I would vote for Thompson for president, but I think his mission would be better carried out as a trail lawyer, fighting these disgusting video game makers in court.

Like it or not, video games are ruining America, and Jack Thompson is one of the few people that can save our country.

Truly disgusting. How about the laser sword? Do you enjoy slicing your victims up with that, too?

This is precisely why we need legislation and litigation against video game makers such as Microsoft. People this young obviously can't tell the difference between a game and the real world, whats to stop them from doing the same things to actual people?

Yet again, violence has become the punchline to another sick teenage joke. Did people treat violence in such an easygoing manner before video games? I think not.

This is really funny, Bungie made the video game, not microsoft. Now I see whats wrong with people, if you can't clearly understand teh maker of a game and teh fact that you don't go around everyday seeing Brutes, then yes, it would be hard to tell a game from real life. Just look around, its not real and your chain is being jerked big time with these comments n all.

Ah yes the flamethrower. Immolation at its finest indeed, a brilliant weapon (no pun intended) capable of incinerating many challengers. The only draw back is the low fuel capacity and slower rate of movement...

I'll be honest, the first experience with a "gun" for me was... back in the early '70s. I was genetically engineered with it attached to me. Seriously, where ever I went, it was there.

It was amazing. I mean, I even went to a special school where I discovered other genetically engineered kids with the same gun!

Four or five of us got together and played a group of superheroes. It was incredible! We were killing bad guys left and right. I mean, I really wish I had a recording device to look back in time and record those adventures. If not a great video game, then certainly a great TV show could come from it.

It was absolutely incredible! We even played one episode that lasted so long, it was a 2 PART EPISODE! How the heck many games have kids played where they actually had stories that went into 2 parts?

Later, I learned that many kids had been genetically engineered to have guns as part of them. Seriously, I'm beginning to think we need to protect the children from this abuse. Really, you should see this horrible abomination! I don't have a camera, but I can describe it for you.

I make a fist.
I stick up this part of my fist called a thumb (which position is sometimes described as the "thumbs up position").
Then I unroll the barrel of the gun (sometimes called the "pointer finger") outward and aim.

Hey! Be careful with that! You don't know where it's been or if it's loaded!

No, people are not more violent, it is just more prevelent in todays socity with modern movies, cartoons and tv. How dare you say people have changed, no one has changed one bit. Games that are centered around the Bible or Christianity will be millions times more violent than Grand Theft Auto will ever be. And Pong, widely believed to be the first mass-produced videogame (Computer Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_Space) beat it by a year), came out in 1972, 36 years ago. And Spacewar! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacewar%21) came out 10 years before. You lose.
"Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and he struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David's hand. Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it."
"Is this not David, of whom they sing in the dances saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?"
"And I will set My jealousy against you, that they may deal with you in wrath. They will remove your nose and your ears; and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will take your sons and your daughters; and your survivors will be consumed by the fire."

Before this gets locked and the two trolls get the ban hammer......

If Jack Thompson's the "savior of America", then I'm the mayor of "Tree Hill, North Carolina". ;)

Murder rates today have been at their lowest levels since the 1950's.

The investigation into the Virginia Tech massacre found that the shooter had never played "violent" video games.

And the shooter in Omaha has never played any video games whatsoever.

Why the hell do we "need" legislation? After all, video games are protected by the First Amendment, and like I’ve been posting, if you’re going to infringe on a Constitutional right like freedom of speech based on the claim that the speech in question is “dangerous”, then you better damn well show absolute proof of that. It’s NEVER been done. There is no proof that any harm will come of anyone playing a “violent” video game.

If there is a danger so clear and so threatening to the American people that causes these self-righteous politicians to step on the First Amendment, wouldn’t any rational thinking person have to believe that the danger would have to be so obvious and clear that there would be no argument against it? Especially since you’re directly contradicting a Constitutional amendment.

We, the American people, have not been given any valid reason to believe that this abridging of our freedom of speech is necessary. There just simply isn’t any evidence at all of any danger from “violent” video games. This “protection” from “violent” video games isn’t needed or wanted for that matter, but please feel free to use everyone’s tax dollars for protection from things like a 10-foot storm surge from a Category 3 or greater hurricane or the fuselage of a 747 airplane entering the workplace or the home.

Come to think of it, the ESA and FTC report that 90% of M-rated game sales are to parents. The NPD Group estimates M-rated games make up only 15% of all game sales. And the FTC says minors trying to purchase M-rated games are refused over half the time.

Let’s see….15% of total sales, 10% of that is 1.5% and 42% of that is 0.63% of all game sales.

Since when does 0.63% of all video game sales warrant unconstitutional legislation?

Besides that, I believe that there was a Bible game and games based on board games and TV game shows that's been out for years.

Jack Thompson has failed miserably for the last 10 years in his self-righteous, self-serving "crusade" against the video game industry.

And people like Jack Thompson are really ruining America with their bullsh*t. I mean, he's such a good "Christian" that he's teaching kids that it's OK to lie to get the results you want. And that it's OK to put price tags on dead bodies.

Here's a quote that best describes Thompson and the mainstream media, from a deleted scene from the school shooting episode of the TV show One Tree Hill, by Brooke Davis(played by Sophia Bush) after a news reporter asked her how she was feeling while the standoff was still going on:

“You should be ashamed of yourself. There are kids inside our school fearing for their lives right now, terrified that someone’s going to put a gun in their face and pull the trigger, and you want to know how I’m feeling?! Our pain is not a commodity for you, it’s not a newsbite to boost your ratings, because tomorrow, or the next day, or the next week when we go back to school, changed forever by a day that will never leave us, where are you going to be? At the next tragedy, thrusting your microphone in the face of the next fractured person, asking them how they feel? Lady, that is not journalism. You are not contributing anything to society. You’re buzzards circling the carnage, but you prey on the living. That is how I’m feeling, but something tells me that you’re not going to hear that.”

Before this gets locked:

Seriuosly, I think the first game I played involving a gun was Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2.

Then I moved up to an air rifle when I turned 13 - my dad bought me one as a coming of age sort of thing.

I ended up getting into the college rifle/pistol team. I was kicked out a year later due to personality clashes - they thought I was too noisy.

Not touching firearms lately, but I did clear CoD4.

Now getting into martial arts. So if I ever ended up killing somebody, it'll be either with a blunt object, or with my bare hands.

Like it or not, video games are ruining America, and Jack Thompson is one of the few people that can save our country.

...You know what? I won't even humor this post with retorts.
