Sony claims protecting the consumer from bad deals..I claim Sony is protecting its ass,not only is the PS3 region movie wise thus making it prime candidate number 1 for chiping its having production issues meaning they have to stop sales someway without looking like they are delaying them or stopping them of coarse...
Since you can buy anything to pal converters and anything to euro power converters for under 20 euros a pop anything sony claims about conversion is a lie and they are useing consumer protection as a smoke scrren
1.Not enough units to move so this is the first step in trying to stop it.
2.Protection of region sales of the console itself and region'd BR products.
3.Stoping flow of the console to potinail euro modders
Is it me or is it the more sony trys to keep it from bing sold and from being chiped the more it needs to be chiped and sold?

EDIT :is this in the right thread? *L*

I thought this sucker was going to be region free? Look sony, I just want to play capcom x namco without chipping a station. I really really hope they don't expect people to buy 2 or three ps3s so they can get the millions of games which will never get localized.

SO far the PS3 will play JAP,EURO,USA games anything out side those region's will be "tweaked" to either play or not play.
Movies are currently locked to JPN/USA OR EURO.

Sony not only has baned the import of the PS3 in europ but have forced Link Sang to suspend business while dealing with sony in Court,I wonder if its found Sony has no merit or is using the court stop imports when it itself will not stop sales ,I wodner if Link sang could counter sue...oh well I dout they have that kind of money.....

Fascist assholes. What has Sony done for gaming again?
This is funny.
Not at what Sony is doing. I don't live in Europe anyway and am waiting a year.
But that you just posted a story, and posted a link to the thread of the other story was well.

I wonder if this is news worth enough for GP to run it on the site?
I guess frist off we need to know what laws are sony claiming to be broken besides the fact they link sang can sell systems more effectively and thier not even chiped in fact link sang dosent have any mod chips or magic swap or the Breaker pro that dose PSX games copys or imports on any PS2,themsot gray aera stuff they have is the media players for the PSP and DS.

*baps*
in that link its more about the ban on imports in this thread a large online retailer/importer has been whacked its diffrent enough to compell me to post this new thread if a mod wants to merge them fine but merge them in off topic its more news than games now.

PS3 = Region Free.
PS2 = Non-Region Free.
PS1 = Non-Region Free.
Movies = Non-Region Free.
Really, they don't want to make the fans pay more then they already have to (seriously...).

this whole mess has bad implications throughout the world making importing hardware illicit and thats a stones throw away from makeing importing media(CDs,games,movies)
can you confirm that?

Umm...I don't have links. I read it somewhere, most likely GameSpot.
Since techniqually it's a PS2 inside the PS3 to run PS2 games, or something like that.

they can easily override the region if they so wish...but.....you never know when its them doing the wishing.
and the PS3 has PS2 hardware built into it and that also runs PSX games.

Exactly!
It would be sweet if they made the PS2 region free as well.

From everything I have found theres been little mention of PSX playing on the PS3 other then
Ken saying
*worst generic asain ascent you can think of*
"Yes sir it fine gamein machine that work like computer and play PSX and PS2 video game!"
*translation its a great game machine able to play PS3 PSX and PS2 games*
>>
basically the hardware details that it has ps2 hardware built in is about all the information have found .
No real info on any extra filtering or stuff like that on either PSX and PS2 stuff I guess I'll just wait and let the net techs dismantle it and tell us wha tits really made of... *L*

Yeah, it stated in the article that the ps3 wouldn't play ps2 and ps1 games from jap/usa.
Did you notice they also said that the US/JAP PS3s don't conform to "high EU and UK safety standards..."?
So that means the US model may blow up at any moment (like the Sony batteries they sold to Dell) or does it mean it may become sentient and kill you and your family?

the EU as slightly higher standards for power emissions how much power a device can use.

No real news on whats what but it dose seem Sony is using vague Euro standards and not import laws to block the importation of PS3s.
Wow...uhh...

*noogies*
already posted that,did the threads get merged? *L*
Supposedly the guys at slashdot proposed a boycott on Sony because of the closing of Lik-sang. In fact, I know a few guys at hardware stores that are now directing their customers away from Sony products in protest for what has happened. Heck, they even asked me to participate, and I've been a Sony fanboy for 2 generations (favoring the Wii in this next one, personally). Bad play, I should say.

New news kinda AD runs a "Did Sony kill Lik-Sang?" piece
my post in it
Show me the laws that Sony has claimed broken!!!
that let them sue places out of exsictance because they import/export Sony products,SHOW ME THEM!!!!
---------------------------------
The only thing I can find is that sony was able to show that the power adapters for the PSP and PS3 do not meet EU electronic device standards.
---------------
Sony by haphazardly keeping launch PS3 out of europ is setting the standard to make all imported hardware illicit and you know the next thing they will make collect is media all games all music and all movies illicit this is some fcked up sht!
I hope Ebay fights them because it will effect them greatly if people and small businesses can not import.

nothing much,since sony has not gone after anyone else yet hopeful Link sang will win even if they are out of business.
http://www.skepticalgaming.com/2006/10/24/sony-sues-lik-sang-into-oblivion/
on 2nd thought from what he says Sony won by default because Link could not show up every where....So sony is going all Vald on them and leaving a head on a pike to show they mean business 0_o
