They didn't even try to make the GI score match up with the scale they use. And the quote they had is a typical lead-in to "but somehow, they managed".

LOL... the story seems to have some effect... the stars have been pulled from the Kain & Lynch site leaving only the quotes. Since both sites did post those quotes at one point they are technically accurate. Thats funny though Eidos isn't having a good week.

I did once read in Game informer that they do at times receive monetary or swag incentives to get a better rating. I didn't think it was this bad, but it is very telling. If a developer or publisher does this for a better review, then that is why they fail.

From now on, every time I read your posts, I'm going to hear Yoda's voice. :(

Its not really much different from music labels paying radio stations money to play certain songs over and over again just to make it seem better to rake in more money off of it.
Certain games are tailored to be the best thing since sliced bread and then they kinda suck but the reviews on it are good (seen this more than a few times). While others that end up as cult classics (the .hack games come to mind here) and get bad reviews. Kinda shows that money goes a long way in ANY industry. Probably the main reason why i just play the game if it looks good and return it back if its not as good as I thought it would be(returning used games in 7 days ftmfw)

Meh, when I first saw Kane & Lynch, I thought "huh, so somebody's already copying Army of Two..."

I understand your sentiment, but I'd say there is a difference between a very commercial radio station simply playing the content over and over, and something that bill itself as an unbiased, objective, serious publication receiving money or goods from developers or publishers to write reviews and scores that make you more susceptible to spending your money on something rather than another thing, albeit academic.
This is horrible news, btw. Simply sickening that Eidos would stoop this low, I can't really get my head around it.
