I got this on the recommendation of a friend, and I was surprised at how much fun it was! It's gotten good write-ups, but for whatever reason it's been largely overlooked, which is a shme. It's kind of a little like Pikmin, in that you have a group of different colored minions who are good at doing certain things that follow you around doing your bidding. Except instead of playing a stranded spaceman, you're an evil Sauron wannabe and your minions are a bunch of evil-looking goblin creatures.

The game has a fun time poking fun at traditional Fantasy, particularly Tolkien. The look of the game too has an exaggerated, cartoony feel (think Fable) and your minions are always chattering amongst themselves and doing various things (my favorite: when one of them gets near a mug of ale, they drink it, get drunk for a little while then go off and relieve themselves!)

You can get is at most places now for around $40. I got the PC version and I think it's even available now on GameTap.

Did they finish fixing this buggy game YET? When I played it, I kept on getting stuck everywhere, and too slow moving in some places (though it could be my graphic card). It felt a bit... consolized. But yeah, it's hilarious to see these little jerks wreck havoc all over the town.

$40? Try 20 bucks from Buy.com and Google Checkout.

There's a patch that takes it up to 1.2, and that seems to have cleared-up some of the worst issues. It sill crashes occasionally, but that seems to be the worst it does and it happens only rarely. I have noticed a couple times in one level that one or two of my minions would get stuck and not come back when I summoned them, but to me it was a minor annoyance.

I never tried Buy.com or Google checkout. I'll have to try those places next time.

Yeah, system requirements are a bit on the high side (it was made for Xbox 360 after all), and it doesn't seem to run smoothly on a video card with anything less than 512 Mb of RAM (I've got an 8800 GTS w/ 640).

Personally I don't mind ports of console games so long as they're good. Not sure what you mean by slow-moving though. If you mean your Overlord character doesn't move very fast well, that's kind of the general idea as the game is mainly centered on how skillfully you control of your minions.

I must say, I had Overlord on the 360 and hated it. The humor was good, the gameplay was generic rushed bargain-bin game bad.

I enjoyed it actually. Quite fun, simple just to order them minions around, and man you do have to be creative, or annoyed.

I dunno, it felt very generic on the puzzles, very short, easy, simple, and I swear I've seen the minion thing done somewhere before, just better.

Yes but EA wont make a dungeon keeper 3 and do you really want them to to? 0-o

The only other game that I've heard of before that was anything like that was Pikmin.

I liked seeing the minions come back with pumpkins and rat skins on their heads, the game was pretty funny altogether, whomping Hobbits and chasing sheep was a hoot. I liked this game for the same reasons I liked Fable and The Bards Tale, who remembers the "slippery hickory dock" in Bard and being called "chicken chaser" in Fable...I still laugh:D

They finally patched this one up. Downloaded the patch and works great now! (Would lock up in places with some video cards and configurations)
Fun little game. If they ever make a sequel, I hope they put more depth in the upgrades and fighting.

God, I wish there would indeed be another Dungeon Keeper...

The only thing that stopped me from buying this is that it cost more than Bioshock etc when it came out and from all accounts it wasn't worth it (length wise). If I see it discounted though I will definitely buy it.
