I've been playing this all afternoon and i still cant make my mind up about it.. is anyone else playing it?
It looks ok, the combat isn't very good, the quests are engaging enough but there is a lot of running back and forth.
i'm really not sure yet.

I've been hearing about this since a year ago, and it came out with very little fanfare. And considering that Manhunt 2 is taking all the glory now...
Still, the reviews say it's an excellent story line, and the graphics look killer. Stick with it and tell me what it's like...

Let start of with 110% hate, the werewolf thing in the opening is ulgy,if tis not a werewolf and some other sub demon/dark thing breed then forgive mew but if it was a werewolf its the worst one I seen since werewolf in London.
Still in the first area been playing it for 10-15 minutes,I hate the whack a mole daiblo wannabe setup,I was hoping this would be more like Revanant where you could pull off moves by using button combos not play random whack a hole with one fckign mouse button oh and the whole"styles" thign is the cheapest most unneed thing I have seen yet.....
At least he can dodge when hes not stuck on something...why no jump? this is a 3d game theres no jump or layered level design out side of stairs, speaking of stairs he gets stuck on them....
Oh and the dialog sucks too Alpha prime has better dialog and its a cheap FPS 0-o
Perhaps I need more brand in my diet but alas I like meat and whine.....
Anyway I will get me more tea and contenuie to play it.......

just not enough to keep me wanting to carry on.

I made it to the first town, and I gotta say the dailog/VAing is like a kick in the pants, I wish I could run polish vocie and english subs this would offend my ears much less,
also this is a dabilo clone without the easy switch buttons and menu bars, it really needs a 10 icon menu bar so you can have access to powers and items on the fly not digging through menus and whatnot to find it when you want to use it.

From what I've read of the reviews, it's got a pretty interesting premise, but in light of some of the bugs and the fact that there other similarly-themed worthwhile RPGs out there clamoring for one's attention (Oblivion, NWN2, etc.) it's not quite enough to recommend it as a "must-play."
Actually, I'm more interested in reading the original Polish novels upon which the game was based. In fact, I think that the english translation of the first novel is supposed to be coming out soon.

Hat would be a cool read, they cant screw up a book translation that badly, its not like they are aiming at zombie gamers(thank you atari...).....

BTW Witcher>Oblivion
while both are lacking I find the witcher to be less annoying than oblivion...

Heh, tell that to my girlfriend. She practically lives in that game.:) I've got to pry her off of it sometimes just so I can play WoW or BioShock these days. :)
While I've never actually played Obilvion, a lot of what I've seen I've found very interesting. I may even play it myself when she's finished with it (provided she ever does!)

Oblivion is nearly endless in comparison and if you can overlook the whack gameplay issues, it can considered fun :P

So I finally got The Witcher. The advantage of waiting is that it's cheaper, and the bugs get fixed.
Unfortunately, the game just wasn't made for the death trap known as Vista. Even after updating, the game crashes every other hour or so, and I found out that there are quite a number of folks with Vista who go through the same thing.
I'll be trying a number of unofficial "fixes" including redoing the address space that is set by “IncreaseUserVa” to 2800 and redoing my graphic drivers.
Otherwise, the game is good. Lots of great looking fights, a living world, plenty of fornication, and it looks like a good story so far. I'll forgive the small developer for the hiccups in Vista, for the omitted jumping ability, & perhaps the fact that fighting and weapon usage is limited.
But what is up with planting general cursing and F bombs in a fantasy setting game??

The book itself uses modern terms and mature themes meaning cussing out the *****...oh wait we cane say that so cussing out the wang...thats better... uhg ya know ESRB if I can not talk dirty in a dingy(din-g-y not ding i) fantasy world ya got some maturity issues you need dealing with....
still the gameplay is pathetic and MMOtastic thats burried in menus and sht.
of coarse they have done a mini overhaul so I don;t know how bad it is with the new patches.

Not only much fornication (and plenty of hack and slash) but you get to collect the cards for later viewing (the European cards were much better and there was always the bragging rights I assume). Being limited in weapons has it good points and bad. Metal sword and Silver sword for their respective enemy types so you rarely got overwhelmed. The magics/potions helped keep it from getting totally mind numbing. Pity they did not have any type of stealth killing though.
Sadly I got fairly far into it before finding that you could not only upgrade weapons but have new ones made. I got stuck with the beginning silver sword in the area with the big lake after clearing the major city in part 3 (trying to keep this spoiler free). I admit I quit out of frustation as I could not face the 30+ hours to play catch-up to where I was. No regrets on the game itself though.

the whole thing is buggerly designed, its a cumbersome nightmare that leads to a nice dream.
Theres lil difrance in it and Dungeon siege 2 only DS is much less annoying to play in the short run, boring in the long perhaps.
DS=dungeon crawl with luke warm story.
Witcher: simi epic story
DS:easy to play and manage
Witcher:hard to play and manage
One of my biggest problems with the witcher is they are pushing a game flaw as main gameplay elements 0-o

For anyone having problems with the Witcher in Vista, looks like the issues have been fixed, at least for me. After updating, the only other problem I had was that my anti virus activating all the time would make the game stop, so I have to play without it.

this is how gaming should be, launch a title spend the next 6-10 months "finishing it" relaunch it then with a account to key system let people who have the game upgrade for free.

Or: ship a working edition on Day One.

they don't do that anymore, looking at BS and other games you are lucky if they consider it patch worthy forget minor overhauls.

But aside from a few minor bugs (read: mid-level techie at patching and adjusting), there was nothing wrong with the game. This is an enhancement. They also re-recorded the audio. And it's free for folks who already have the copy. How awesome is that?

Polish is enhancing.................
anyway ....meh halfbred gameplay and cumbersome menu(and or gamepaly) comes to mind..... as issues the game has.
the core gameplay annoys me to no end tho, KOTOR was a bit smoother/polished....they try and go with a an action base with witcher yet don;t try anything action leaning with it...other than clicky click.....

While not a bad game I find it difficult to call it good with the boring repetative combat made, crappy menu, cliched story and characters.
I did enjoy the filthy enviroments and moral choices though.

Hey, you can't compare KotOR...Bioware and the companies involved have a lot of money and staff. This is CD projekt's first game. The went from translating Winnie the Pooh Adventures to The Witcher.
I got used to the menu system and clicky action. But in the end, I enjoyed the environment and story the most.

sorry, flawed game is flawed, ambitious perhaps but they tried not hard enough to make a action game out of kotors engine, the resulting game is not necessarily bad, but it is very very quirky. At least its not like bioshock where they knew what they were doing but didnt care :P.
edit
I mean the witcher dose have some things that make it more than say a daiblo clone but add up all the quirks and it just suffers greatly from feeling like a bad clone, being a PC unique game is great and all..but to unique to the point flaws start giving you a lap dance...is just...bad things ><.
