View Full Version : Who's got or going to get Manhunt 2?

I was considering getting Manhunt 2, but most likely I'll do this once I move into my dorm for the Spring semester. I've got a sibling under 17 and I don't wish to expose the game to her, however I want to enjoy what seems to be a pretty good (albeit controversal) game.
Thoughts?

I'm waiting. Reviews so far are so-so, and until I see some positive ones, there's no need to for Rockstar to make a buck off of me for a blah game.

It got a decent score in the UK's NGamer Magazine, but it was an "exclusive" review of the uncensored version.

I never had any intent to buy the game in the first place. But now, I'm done defending Rockstar, once news of uncensoring the PSP version crosses the media's lips.

As i understand it, you have to get an illegal copy of the disk image, and then -again illegally- edit the code of some files. The end result of which is that it removes a filter from the cut screen.
I haven't played the game so i'm taking a guess here, but i would think that the only way they could have done it differently would have to been to use a pre-rendered 'video' in place of a scripted scene.
I'm not sure how much R* can be expected to do, its not like you can press up up down and bang the filter is gone. i think you can say they took resonable messures if you need to break the law a cpl times to get to the 'content'.
That aside, I suspect that the fall out from the normaly so well informed meida will be painful to watch.
Oh in reply to the OP... so far the reviews have it as being kinda poor.. and with several games out in the next cpl weeks that look like they will be great, i wont bother with this one.

I've considered renting it, I'm not interested in actually playing it all the way through, but I doubt anyone will carry it.

Ok, I'll give you that, that it has to be an illegal copy in the first place, but come ON Rockstar. Did you learn NOTHING after Hot Coffee? Doing things like this are giving the ENTIRE industry a bad name. Please stop making mistakes like this, it's getting harder and harder to defend your actions from the people who say that you are pure evil.

R* is acting like it almost NEEDS to feed off of controversy to survive. All the buzz that R* gets from GTA and Manhunt for what they are probably makes a good portion of the money they make. Tollwutig is a PRIME example of this, assuming he is just renting to see what all the hype is about. Alot of people will buy/rent the game just to "see what its all about" and I think thats what R* is banking on.
Them announcing the content is probably just another process of this to get the "WTF" factory going again and get more people to buy the game to see what this "wtf" content is. Plus if this becomes another Hot Coffee (and we know SOMEBODY will) and the game gets pulled again until a new edited version is released, then the previous "unedited" version practically becomes collectors item, able to access the content or not.

i haven't seen this posted else where...
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30256
"Manhunt 2's rating makes it unmistakable that the game is intended for an older audience. The unauthorized hacking into the code of this game doesn’t change that basic fact," said ESRB president Patricia Vance.
The ratings bureau made it clear that computer software and hardware devices are susceptible to unauthorised modification, and therefore game content could be changed in ways inconsistent with the assigned ESRB rating. Vance urged parents to monitor what their children are downloading to ensure that they are not removing the controls "put in place for their own protection."
it seems like a sensible position to be taking.

You know, given the reviews,I think I'll vote with my wallet and not get a copy.

PS2 version shows more violence then Wii, according to Gamespot. There is less of a filter, and somthing about a geometric pattern showing in the begining and end of a kill. Therefore, it gets a higher rating. Hmm. Why would a better view of the violence get a higher rating?
For 30 bucks, the game is cheap, and I will get it just to say I played it. But I'm going to wait until it goes down in price, or get a used copy.

Save yourself the $30 and go to gurochan.net instead. :)

It strikes me that this is the point of all this 'controversy'.
I wish there was an easy way to mash advertising and controversy together.
contra-tising... adver-versy... meh anyway if you could mash the words together, you would use this new coined word to describe what R* have done with MHII.

Perhaps publicity and controversy?
Publiversy?
Controvicity?

I don't see any point in getting the game... neither Manhunt games struck me as the kind of game I wanted to bore myself for ages. If I want violence, I'll stick to the SF games.

The first one got released then banned straight away in Australia so I've no reason to expect Manhunt 2 not to go the same way. It comes out, people complain, it gets banned. I've no desire to play this type of game anyway but I defend other adults right to do so if they want. Its like the situation with that Go Postal game or whatever its called, I played the demo and from a gamers point of view its cr@p, but some people seem to dig it..weirdos!!!

Yup, exactly right. We need an 18+ classification for games.

I would think at 17 that wouldn't be a problem?
