View Full Version : Halo movie loses publisher/distribution

Universal and Fox film studios have withdrawn financing from the planned movie based on popular video game Halo, reports US magazine Variety.
Rumours suggested the studios were concerned the budget could reach £200m, after an original projection of £135m.
The film-makers said the studios pulled out after they and Halo creators Microsoft refused to reduce their deals on the project.
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is an executive producer.
Super-soldier
Ken Kamins, who represents Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh, said Microsoft was in talks with other distribution partners.
Preparation work on the film is reportedly continuing at Jackson's and Walsh's Weta production facilities in New Zealand.
The Halo script is by The Beach and 28 Days Later... screenwriter Alex Garland, and due to be directed by first-time feature film-maker Neill Blomkamp.
The video game has a complex mix of mythology, characters and worlds and follows the adventures of futuristic super-soldier Master Chief as he fights to save mankind from an alien race.
It has sold in excess of five million copies around the world since its 2001 release. A sequel followed in 2004, with a third game due out next year.

This is the stupidest move FOX has made since they ****ed around with lucas in the early eighties and gave him a reason to bring Indiana Jones and other films to other studios.
James Cameron made titanic for a ****load of money, but it made more. Halo will do the same, one should expect that based on the names alone.

That's pretty bad... I'm not a huge fan of Halo, but I'd go see a movie if one came out...
Who want to bet Lion Gate will buy that movie, like it did with EVERYTHING that was ever dropped?

POTC sold insanely well and got a ton raves and rants Halo has a 10% chance to be godly :P
I just realized PotC doesn't just shorten to Pirates of the Carribean....
And The Passion sold to the following groups
50% - Evangelicals who have yet eluded Gattling God
25% - People who couldn't wait for Saw III to come out (it's roughly on the same level of gorytude right there)
5% - Sado-masochists
5% - People who wanted more reasons to hate Mel Gibson
25% - People who thought they were going to see a porn movie
1% - People who don't realize you can only go up to 100%

I kind of agee about FOX screwing themselves over. Maybe they're going on a trend that most game-based movies don't do so well and I can see why they'd be worried about it. But it's Halo... done right, it could bring in millions more than the cost. Final Fantasy: Advent Children didn't do so bad. The way I see it, FOX isn't going to make the Halo movie, but are still going to release the Simpsons movie, even though the series has been going downhill for a while now.

Nail on the head, this is the problem with film execs. To them, star wars was just some space pic that went overbudget and came in late. To them, halo is an overbudget game flick, like tomb raider or resident evil. The simpsons is a family friendly animation pic, like curious george or Open Season.
This is why we'll see Saw 15 before we see Serenity 2.

Durandal/Thott should still be around (untill he dies together with the entire universe), so yeah... you could do have a Marathon/Halo crossover.
It is almost certainly the same universe. I mean, the Cortana Letters flat out mention the three stages of Rampancy... and..... damn.. I'm such a geek O_O

to me Marathon and Halo are fairly close enough that you could almost call them the same game. Just Halo is updated
As an FPS, Halo is superior. But in terms of everything else, Marathon just plain wins.
But yeah, I pretty much want Durandal to show up and try to take control of the Halos or something because he believes he could 'escape' the inevitable closure of the universe somehow.

another show did come it. They called it Family Guy
and they supported it for 3 secs before going back to the Simpson's...no wait that was Futrarama....they suported family guy for 5 minetes :P
Guh, the only thing I ever really liked about Family Guy was the Stewie kid. But that novelty wears off quickly.
Futurama was funnier, but I didn't see too much of that.

Though in the Halo 3 trailer, you're basically hearing her voice AND Gravemind's. So that might just be him, but since almost everything Cortana said was written down before Bungie even came up with Gravemind... yeah.
I briefly thought Cortana might just be Leela, but then I learned she's not that old.
I think the Pfhor went extinct. It might've just been too long for them to still be around.
To make matters worse, in Marathon Infinity you start jumping across different time lines, so there is absolutely no way of knowing wheter anything that happens in Marathon happened in the same way in whatever time line the Halo trilogy is in. Does it get worse? YESH IT DOES ^__^

That doesn't happen to Marathon AIs. The trilogy encompasses several centuries if I recall.
The only thing Durandal wants to break free from is the fact that the universe is finite, and that he will infinitely expand. Which he fails to do, as the epilogue to Marathon Infinity contains Durandal's musings several seconds before the universe collapses.

Some how I doubt that since Duke 3d has better gameplay than most newer FPS's but we shall see,D/Ling M1 now :P

story alone dose not make it great it merely makes it good.
While DKN3D and Blood are weak story wise they have enough other things to make them games not to forget.
Mind you I playing getign M1 right now story alone and basic gamepaly should push it above DOOM even without the extra level design doom has but I am hopping it will be at least as fun as DOOM.

I have played M1 some got past the frist level gotta say OMFG its like DOOM 2 or hexen but with mouse controlls I LOVS IT!
I needs help gather GUIs if any for hexen,heritic,doom,duke 3d,blood and mabye Quake 1 or point me in the direction of where I can find these tweaked GUIs/front ends/whatver you want to call them, DQ 8 and playing thru my old FPS collection will keep me busy untill Bioshock comes out *L*
