View Full Version : Deadliest Catch video game?

Alaskan crab fishing is one of the deadliest jobs in the world, as shown by the show Deadliest Catch. I was thinking that there should be a video game that accurately depicts the life on a crab boat. Some of the proceeds could go to the families of crabbers who have lost their lives to the Bering Sea.

There is a game! It's online. It's pretty damn funny the first few times you play it...

I like the show, but I think it would be pretty hard to translate it into video game form. One way I see it working is if you made it simulation/strategy game, sort of like the Sid Meier games, but more personal (Sid Meier's games tend to detached from the characters.) The player would be struggling to make as much money as possible, while keeping the crew safe, and dealing with supply shortages, weather, and problems with the boats.

......seriosly
The theoreticaly Perfect Game for xbox (if discovry makes it)/ as told by monarch_207
DECKHAND
a lot of people seem to be focusing on the captain aspect when truly the most intersting part of the game will be the deckhand expierence.(no offence to the others as you work your way up chances to throw the rail will be provided. but the conditions would be like a day on the bering sea on steriods! just so it isnt monotinus
captain
i like the idea of the captain position availible on the game( if its made) while playing the game it should have diffrent veiws like a standard car game. you know, cockpit view, outside view and even side veiw to watch for rogue waves(like what happened to the alutian ballad). another thing, boat to boat communication for online play, think maybe five generated bering seas or enough to house all the online players. then clans would be groups of boats trying to haul the big catch
Its first person exept when you become captain then you control the boat. but you should be able to pull a SIG and still go on deck .
The Scenarios
I'm thinking the grid system for the computer game can be evolved so if you dont want to spend 30 hrs getting to the fishing grounds in real time you dont( unless you have way to much time on your hands.) meaning the grids would be fewer but larger and you still have to find your pots but more interactivly. if you want to sail the seas yourself you can sail all the way to the icepack to dutch if you like to drive . power streering long since been computerized on those boats will be eliminated meaning the controller stick controls the boat. the groups of crabs will be completly randomized so you can get numbers like 500 king crab or 0 (Oh and you have to haul each individual pot instead of whole strings. intercom will be available to send set messages to the crew. the game should feature currents and the ice pack, and of course other boats.i mean the possibiltys are endless like 10 difrent storm categorys each with difrent looks and directions, then waves lets say maybe 60 diffrent hieghts(for each foot,60ft being the tallest) then the difrent dirctions the waves could come frome and difrent shapes of waves
Story mode (derby style)
For story mode the game would be about the show directly. you would start out as a greenhorn and fish on the Northwestern or other featured boat. Then work your way up and eventually a position for captian on another boat will be offered( the boat you take over will be a random selection)Stats on boats speed, hold compacity, every thing varies per boat.then you compete with the other captains for the best catch. this mode is not endless but does
Freeplay (quota style)
you still have to work your way up but you get to buy a boat once you make enough money.(you get to choose your boat you want) and modify and repaint as you play.Im talking new engines, crane, mast,Pots, each affecting your game play. so this version is endless like the seasons either never end or you do the seasons over again,if you wanted to veiw the diversitys of storms. game play is endless like sims
2 player ????
Being able to unlock boats in story mode or using your story and freeplay boats and the shows featured boats. Stats on boats speed, hold compacity, every thing varies per boat. 360 boat veiwing when choosing then compete with your friends!!!!!
online play
You should consider (big-time)the online capabilities of each system, putting it online could add tons of stuff; Leaderboards, Downloadables, and what little differences you can put in so that they're each distinct from each other. You might also want to consider the PC as a valid platform, this could make a great MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game). I don't watch the show at all, but the concept is great and I wouldn't mind crab-fishing in a video game. Most Movie/Tv shows don't make good games, I like the concept behind yours though, make sure to remember though, that it'd look beautiful, have nice sound, and it's lengthy and enjoyable. As things look right now though, if everyone keeps adding opinions and feedback, this could actually turn out to be a great game.
and clans like in halo, are partner boats so the bering sea is generated several difernt times to house all the online players.like a clan's vs clan's and individual boats

Um, no offense, but I find it too difficult to read. Firefox has a spellchecker built in... you might want to consider using it :P

And it's not that hard to type out the two extra letters to spell "you", otherwise you just look retarded.

I posted on another site, and it didn't have spell check. I just copied and pasted. Unlike you, I have a life, so at 11 o'clock, I just wanted to finish, ok?
That was just a small post. I hope you can see why I didn't want to do the same thing, even mentally, to your larger one.
Incidentally, every site has spell check if you're using Firefox. It won't find everything, but "anpther" and "didnt" are both highlighted on my screen. We're not asking for perfect spelling/grammar, but when every sentence has one or more errors, and you don't have a very good excuse (eg. serious learning disorders, English as a second language, etc.), we're going to complain.
