This week, on tuesday june 26th, The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation held a hearing about the impact of media violence on children. (http://commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Hearings.Hearing&Hearing_ID=1879)

Among major statements, there was Senator John "Jay" Rockefeller's one, (http://commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Hearings.Statement&Statement_ID=271) very harsh against media violence and entertainment industry. It's not surprinsing when you know that he's already written a column about it this year. You can read it on his website. (http://rockefeller.senate.gov/news/speeches/TVViolence2007.html)

Among witnesses, there was Tim Winter (http://commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Hearings.Testimony&Hearing_ID=1879&Witness_ID=6664) from the Parent Television Council, and Jeff McIntyre (http://commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Hearings.Testimony&Hearing_ID=1879&Witness_ID=6111) from the American Psychology Association.

How are video games related to this hearing ? Well, it seems that Senator Frank Lautenberg was at the hearing (http://www.americansforprosperity.org/index.php?id=3428) and that he mentioned video games. Note that Lautenberg slammed JFK Reloaded (http://lautenberg.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=254295) 3 years ago. And according to LaRouchePAC (http://www.larouchepac.com/pages/breaking_news/2007/06/26/senate_blasts_media_violence.asp) (eeewww... but I didn't have any other source), he said at the hearing : "We have to include video games as part of the violence. The biggest growth in entertainment is video games."

Here is another site (http://www.voanews.com/english/2007-06-27-voa24.cfm) that reports about this hearing.
