So i began playing DDO again. (i love free 10-day trials)
I played during the beta and at first loved it, until i began noticing things and they starting the beat thing with the nerf bat.
First it was enhancments. During beta and the early life of DDO, you could only get 4 enhancments. No more. And well, you earn points to buy enhancments every level (back then it was limited to 10 levels with 3-4 points per level) If you dont use them before level, then you lose them.
But now they fixed that. Every level gives you 3-4 points, but now you can keep buying as many enhancments as you can afford for your level. They also made it so you can save your points every level.
There was the nerf bat attacks. One were they panicked cause clerics could kill undead with ease. Instead of taking a dnd way to make it harder to turn the undead, they cut thier power in half, making it even harder to turn the undead.
The second nerf that hurt alot was the stealth nerf. If you are a rogue, you cannot fight head to head. You sneek around hoping not to get spotted, cause if you do your dead. (if alone) and well they didnt like that either. So now if you interact with any object, or tumble, you lose your hide. So now anything you do, Poof your spotted and die. Course they dont want people not to play the class, so they limit certian abilites to only the rogue. (pick lock, disable device)
Well they have improved things, and hopefully they'll keep improving and eventually start implementing more things.
Pros- Decent graphics, High paced combat, some other stuff i cant remember right now.
Cons- over use of the bloom effect, design challanges met with MMO style solutions instead of Dnd solutions.

Don't forget the mindless hours of grinding on the same quests over an over again.

Besides, there was already a pure DnD online game. Neverwinter Nights.

There really isn't any connection other than name and some licensing from what I had seen.

It has the licenses and name, as well as semi-mechanics of the board game.
Sure it is not turn based like more dnd games, but thats something that i like about it.
course the Dnd tatics im hoping is like chain mail.

The mindless grinding of having to run the same damn quest in the same instance over and over and over again to be able to be half way to next level. The game was a big disapointment to me atleast, I was hoping a little more DnD and a little less go kill the same kobald horde 3 times in the same dungeon to earn crap xp. I was hoping it was going to be more like DnD and less of a MMORPG version of a dungeon crawler. I mean **** all that there ever was in 90% of the missions we spiders and ****ing kobalds. First 6 levels all I ever saw most of the time was spiders and kobalds.

true, though im seeing alot of trogs lately. They did alot of changes that returned the xp down to normal dnd levels, so after you finish the good blade quests your almost level 2. finish each quest in the harbor and your level 3-4.
Only problem is when you start a new character you have to repeat those same quests over. At least, much like fps games, there is enough action to keep me entertianed for now, rather then stand and deliver style of all the other games.

complaining about grinding in one MMO is silly. every single one of them has a grind.
aside from that, i'm currently playing DDO because my friends are. it's ok, it's not pure D&D but it's not WoW either. there's a lot more content now than there was at launch, but they've been on a steady decline.
at this point, i wouldn't say DDO is worth paying for unless you've invested a lot of time into it. their forum moderation has gone berzerk (i was banned for making a thread against goldfarmers, for example) and the new content has slowed to a crawl due to most of the developers at Turbine being shunted to LotRO (which i found to be an awful game).
DDO is dying. it's doing so because they have poor communication (no Known Problems list ever), poor customer service (no phone # to call), continually deviate from the D&D experience, and their content has not only been poor (Mod 5) but lacking (they promised Monks by the end of 2007 at the beginning of 2007, and now have gone back on that).

Well, how are they supposed to balance the Keanu Reaves class?

Keanu Reaves class? Though monk is a powerhouse class in later levels I wouldn't really go as far as call it Keanu Reaves. I doubt they could fit it in the game though, with they build you could do on it by level 6 you could have one powerful yet broken character.

Well, at least they aren't doing it by the D&D4 ruleset, where monks are even more unbalanced.

I know. Personally as a DM I feel WotC did it to give us headaches. I mean a monk will be able to destroy a campaign if the DM is not careful.

The guy in charge of 4th edition is a big monk fan, and that's affecting the build.

Wizards.com had a huge story on it a few months back. Monk was reported to be one of the classes to get a major boost.

Does anyone still play this? And if so what content have they added since March of 2007? Yeah I know they add something every month or did until LotR Online came out. Is it still a dungeon runner with hardly any solo content after level 4? Or have they expanded it to where you can now travel outside Stormreach beyond the forest? Just asking because a friend of mine wants me to start up again on the game.

There was already a good online D&D game before this. It's called Neverwinter Nights.

don't bother giving Turbine your money. they'll just put it towards development for LotRO.
