I agree with Fremen, there's no comparison here so maybe the links are off.

Personally, I don't think there has ever been a military themed live action movie that could qualify as a live action GI Joe movie.

And I'd love to see a live action GI Joe movie. Not a corny one, but a serious, action packed, arse kicking one. I think I even mentioned it last year.

Plot: Maybe 2 decades into the future. Terrorism is on the rise worldwide. And it seems many of the most powerful terrorist groups have become unified in their purposes. While not necessarily sharing the same beliefs, their goals of overthrowing the governments of the world give them a unified goal and so are brought together as a single massive terrorist organization known as... COBRA (wow, shock there).
The UN proposes a specialized terrorist task force to deal with COBRA. But, world governments being what they are, individual governments work to develop their own specialized task forces, headed by (of course) the best of the best of the best of each military and security agency. Naturally, the US team is calling itself GI Joe.
Of course, despite a few successes, overall, the seperated teams find that it's necessary to join forces as a single unified terrorist task force to defeat COBRA.

The last thing we need is a "The US can do it all 'cuz no one else is smart enough to do it without us" movie. So a movie about a world unified team would be better.

Even if no one would touch the world government plot element out of foolish patriotism, and by egging that if they don't say america did it alone they'd be terrorists

So, Iraq cannot make their own pro-Iraq propaganda, but the US can make their own?

It was Iranian, not Iraqi.

In the US? It's perfectly ok to make pro-US propaganda. But if you make pro-anyone else, *especially* pro Iran? Hooo boy, better have a good hiding spot. That's TERRORISM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUhxOFZ8Pj0)!!!!

Which is why if the GI Joe movie isn't the US and the US alone formign the GI joe unit it's be "Terr'ism!!1!11!1!1one!!1!"

Hmmm, watching the 2nd trailer, it is about Iraq, and how an attempt to pacify "terrorism" can foster, through sheer human failability, situations that get out of control, corruption, and misinformation, can seriously screw up the people you are trying to protect, and F' up the relationship between allied armies.

It's apparently a Turkish film.

It's shocking how much of the film is based on actual events. Also, it's good to hear garey busey got a job.

I hate you and everything you stand for now. I couldn't watch more than a few minutes into that first video because of how blatantly slanderous and full of **** that crap was.

Hmm... the Valley of the Wolves trailer cuts from scene to scene way too quickly for my tastes -- I found it hard on the eyes -- but it looks like a good movie. I get sick of only seeing the (equally biased) American side of the conflict, so a Turkish perspective should be interesting.

Obviously the film is propaganda but the events depicted in some cases actually occured, specifically the wedding party massacre.

I didn't watch the video either, it was utter crap. Brace yourself though Steel, 15 years from now people will start coming out with their stories of squad-mates raping 10 year old girls then killing them then raping the corpses, then those stories will be made into movies here in America by people who actually know how to make a watchable film instead of clobber-you-over-the-head propaganda crap.

Also, legless Iraqi war veterans will end up with signs begging for cash to support their oxycodine addiction.

The thing is, with how the media is today, all of those incidents are out in the open within a month of it happening. And this is an all-volunteer army, so we're less likely to accidentally get someone who would do those things like in Vietnam.

Hopefully very few this time.

Yeah, it's all volunteer for now. In 5 years or so I'm guessing they'll have to re-instate the draft. Especially since by then we'll also have the occupation of Iran to handle as well.

But it's ok. The drugs they'll put in the water supply combined with the endless stream of propaganda from every media source possible will mean that people won't mind going off to fight.

As if most Rambo et. al movies weren't. (or pretty much any movie involving "terrorists") :p

You just hate it because the US is on the receiving end of the outrageous stereotyping...
