Title: The Nitpickers' Guide to the Politics of Video Games
Let's see:
Major Headings:
A chapter for each past and present video game legislation.
Part A: The final draft of the Legislation.
Part B: The full transcript of any hearings on the Leglistion.
Part C: Any court transcripts involving the Legislation.
Part D: Any interviews in mainstream or other media regarding Legislation with key players in regards to the specific Leglislation, both before and after passing and/or failure (after being contested in court) of the Legislation.
A chapter for each tragedy, crime, and/or lawsuit involving and/or implicating video games.
Part A: Any mainstream and/or private media (including blogs of interest) that have covered the event.
Part B: Any formal investigative evidence available to the Public.
Part C: Any court filings and/or proceedings involving the event.
A chapter for each mainstream and/or private media (including blogs of interest) article dealing with Politics and Video Games.
A chapter on each of the most quoted studies (as there are claimed to be many, the most quoted and referred to may be best for limitation of space, if need be).
Each Chapter/Part to be analyzed by a number of individuals including, but not limited to, mainstream media journalists, Video Game Journalists, Attorneys appropriately specialized in Video Game law as well as relevant Law issues, and professionals in Video Game issues as well as media specialists (an example might be Henry Jenkins or even Jason Della Rocca).
Depending on the item, analysis might include legality of any specific section of legislation or the analysis of truth regarding facts presented either in a hearing or in a mainstream newstory.
Offering opposing opinion might be best left to a forum regarding the book rather than in the book itself, but is still a negotiable option for the book if interest exists and is reasonable.
Appendicies could include ESRB ratings, full copies of the applicable US Constitutional Amendments (or the equivilant if including issues from outside the US), as well as short bios on the nitpickers.
--------------------------------------
Being a fan of the Nitpickers' Guides, I thought about this last week and thought how interesting it might be to include, Dennis, Jabrwock, and/or Andrew Eisen as some of the Political Video Game journalists, and someone like Tom B. as one of the attorney's offering up their nitpicking skills. And maybe even an appendix of "The Opposition", at least those referred to in the book.
And yes, I know it would be a HUGE book. But I also think it would be an interesting one.
Anyway, someone with the time and resources, as well as the necessary eloquence, might be able to pull this one off.
