View Full Version : *gasp* A gamer chick!
Paige

Hey all,
The name's Paige (named for an old roleplaying character of mine), I'm a 24 year old Aussie girl who seems to be a bit of a poster child for video games
I started roleplaying (table top Dungeons and Dragons and World of Darkness classic) when I was 16, then moved onto video games which always seemed the domain of my younger brother beforehand. I play everything from CounterStrike (my kill/death ratio sucks lol) to Lord of the Rings Online with a semi unhealthy dose of BloodRayne 2 in between.
Having sampled all the evils of wargaming, roleplaying (tabletop and live action), video gaming and online chats, I'm now married to an English gamer (gaming as quality time rocks!) who I met online, I have a wonderful home and a small group of good friends. All that and I've never been in trouble with anyone except my parents over it (funny story there...never ever ever do the teenage rebel bit and sneak out overnight to go gaming, my parents were furious and I was exhausted the next morning :D)
So yeah, hi to everyone and I'll see you on the boards.

Your parents got mad that you snuck out to go gaming?
Man, imagine what would've happened had you actually been doing something bad...like yayo.
Either way, we already have two chicks on these forums, though I'm not 100% sure of the status of one of them. You may encounter Hannah, who, while she is very pretty, is often very cynical, skeptical, and I don't think she likes me. Everyone else here does though, or at least they'll say they will, unless they want to get banned. RIGHT GUYS?!
The other girl is wxDiva, who is dating another one of our members, SilverDerstin (they met BEFORE these forums, so no we have no hookups on record). Point is. Welcome, and may you learn to ignore King Nintendoid (who will be giving you his typical welcome-wagon copypasta from 4chan very shortly).
P.S. If you value any part of your sanity, stay away from OT.
Well, since according to my magic color test I'm parasitic and amoral.. I think I'll leech of my wife's intro thread!
Much like my wife, I started in war gaming and world of darkness role playing games before moving onto video gaming in a big way, and having had a rather difficult childhood I tend to consider myself a wonderful example that "Video games and a hard life doesn't make you a killer!".
I moved down to Australia from England a few years ago to marry Paige, and am currently playing lots and lots of LOTRO while looking for work.. hopeing finally to end up in the gaming industry in some way, but thats a loooong way off.
Edit : since when are OT forums ever anything but insane... and doh, got killed by a worg while posting >.<

A huge welcome to you and your husband (Yay! Another fellow Brit!) glad to see more people with an unhealthy interest in RPG's.

I get the "*gasp* a gamer chick!" comment a fair bit when I have to go into the local department store for my video games. A new EB opened in the local shops last week so I'm thrilled ;)
And yeah, my parents were (at that stage) the heavily Christian types, believing roleplaying was equal to satanism and the whole bit. My brother had a N64 but roleplaying was "of the devil". I told them I was staying over at a friend's place and snuck away at the train station to head into the city and go to a gaming club for the night in the local Girl Guides hall.
My parents had an APB out on me all night but I arrived home safe and sound at 8 the next morning with dark circles under my eyes. I recall vaguely a cop giving me a talking to while I was staring blankly at the stickers on the counter.. >.> <.<
I look back now and think it's hilarious because my parents freaked out and now my mum thinks my brother's WoW habit is about fifty times worse than my "vampire games" ;)

Um, ok, we get that you're female, but hopefully you won't keep reminding us ;) It gets annoying pretty quick.
It's good to see another tabletop gamer here anyway -- I've been playing Pendragon lately, and recently finished an Exalted campaign.
Theory?: Wait, I dislike people here? When did that happen? Also, my cynicism and scepticism are how I cling to the remnants of my sanity :D

lol nah, I tend to get it over with to start then forget about it. I find some of the reactions I've had over the years quite amusing.
Exalted seems ok, I've got the book but anime style stuff was never my cup of tea. I started on Vampire: the Masquerade, D&D and Shadowrun, then went on to roleplaying online (mostly Vampire, then Werewolf, Mage, Orpheus and Demon). Met some people through there who pulled me into Guild Wars, WoW, CounterStrike, EQ2 et al, then gave up mostly on classic WoD when they discontinued it and moved on to the New World of Darkness.
These days, I split my time between Sims 2, LOTRO and reading GP and other news sites.

I'm pretty sure you hate me, I never get anything but hate from you, I don't know why, but I do. Perhaps its deserved, but I've never been given a reason, not like I need one, I usually assume people hate me by default. I don't usually go out of my way to be liked.

Welcome to GP. You're ours now. Here's what you can expect.
You'll stay for a while, see a few threads, laugh a bit, and see a few odd things. You'll bookmark the place for further amusement. This is where it all begins.
Before too long, you'll find yourself checking on GP in increased frequencies. First it'll happen occasionally during the week. Then once every day or so. Then more frequently. You'll find yourself checking on it twice a day. Three times. Once per hour. Before you know it, you'll be browsing it for hours at a time.
Slowly, your life will take a back-seat to GP. You'll find yourself forgetting to call people. You'll be late for work because you'll be reading legendary threads. Slowly, your life will decline into a mindless chaos.
As GP and /OT/ slowly consume your mind, your humor will be replaced with our humor. You'll become glued to GP. It'll be the only place you feel accepted. And then, you'll start accepting the weirder conventions. You'll find yourself fapping to all sorts of odd things you used to find disgusting. But now it'll all be commonplace for you, as a normal part of your life. Your personality.
And then, someday down the road, you'll realize what has happened to you. Your loved ones will have left you. You'll be alone. Unemployed. Struggling to survive. And worst of all, you'll be hooked. You won't be able to fight it, because we will be all you know, and all you remember. You'll slowly dissolve into madness, or mindless stupidity. Whichever comes first. And then, one day, you will snap, and all remains of your former self will be crushed under our weight.
Welcome, my friend. Welcome, my brother.
Welcome to your new home.
Welcome to GP

We all know you're really a 50-year-old pedophile, ready to lull us in with the siren song of "your" supposed picture, before revealing your true identity at the last second, making the situation really awkward.
But welcome. ;)
Oh, what the ****? No copypasta on the second page?
And then they do it WRONG?
WHAT IS THIS?
Oh, hai.

New members, it is required of you to have a portrait or a banner on these forums, or else I won't be able to remember you because I'm bad with names.
This is important because I deem it so.

Welcome from a fellow DnD player and gamer. I am GPs resident sociopath and CNN anchor/new reporter. If there is a CNN story that seems interesting you better bet I will post it in /OT/. Just a little warning I am kinda nuts, and when me and KN are around **** tends to blow up. Oh and we are accepting resumes right now to join us in our evil flying fortress.

I've played Nemesis (Superpowers), World of Darkness (old and new), Buffy, Armageddon, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Star Wars RPG and Ironclaw but none of those compare to the Roleplaying glory that is Call of Cthulhu the roleplaying game. If you haven't used your mangled sisters corpse as a security blanket when confronted by a faceless terror from another world then you haven't lived!

Hello and Welcome,
Do not mind Theory? for he is a poor disciple of He who is GamePolitics. It I you should fear, for I have wielded the dreaded ban hammer many more times than Theory? and crave it's powerful force in my hands.
Wait, that was my evil other half speaking. Welcome, just be careful in the OT forum, it's dangerous in there.

I think we're far too insular and full of inside-jokes. We obviously need more topics about Dune.
