Revived from the dead.
Series I've recently finished:
Paranoia Agent - Friggin' wierd ending. Didn't see it coming...because I wasn't downing a pound of mushrooms per second.
Haibane Renmei - ****in' phenominal series. I recommend it to everyone.
I'm trying to download Champloo and Last Exile right now. I was downloading Berserk and Argento Soma, but they were going WAY too slow.
What else is good? I need more anime.

I'm downloading Trinity Blood, because someone said it was good. It looks like it's a short series and all I know is that it involves vampires, anyone know if it's good or not?

The series doesn't have an ending since its creator died while they were making it. I've heard it gets kinda bad later on.
Also, I don't care what Silver Derstin thinks, Eureka 7 rocks!

All the characters look like they were snatched out of RahXephon an the plot is boring.
I like anime that makes me think a bit. It doesn't have to be super-introspective like Eva or anything like that, just anime with a point. Habane Renmei was nice like that. The whole plot was an allegory with lots of potential for analysis. Paranoia Agent was...um...well it was interesting. Perfect Blue had a much better ending.

Not exactly an Anime, but i Watched Battle royale two on yotube last night. i haven't seen the first one,but i thought that the first part(i din't see the first eight minutes, cuz' vid buffer stopped)up until the EMP was intresting. the situation that the high school kids are thrust into...it's almost like a cruel rock paper sciccors(sp?). you Have the goverment, that is opressive and highly abrasive to young people(I mean, they set up a program where kids have to fight each other to death on an island, just because of overpopulation! despite that, their not entirely evil)who are rounding up the kids to send them on a suicide mission against the Wild seven, who are trying to liberate the kids, but in the act of fighting the goverment, kill innocents. it was also visceral seeing all the class get mowed down and blow up by their collars as they tried to comprehend the situation, let alone complete their mission. it just leaves you thinking....what would you do?
That's why i thought the movie became a little too diffrent(Not worse, but diffrent)Post-EMP. and the ending was absurd,if epic, relatively untrained teenagers can't take on a horde of goverment soldiers.
Anyway,i'm making this a review/summary. i reccomend seeing it on youtube.

Actually, I've seen the later episodes and it's what is driving me to say: Can't you just have giant robots surfing on air and doing cool ****, and not a ****ty plot that tries to be profound and fails?
Same pretty much goes for Trinity Blood, actually. Vampire Slayer kills Vampire. Shouldn't be THAT hard.

When I first heard Bleach was coming to Adult Swim, I wasn't too sure, but now since I watched it, it freakin rocks. initial D is also good, they capture the intensity of the racing pretty well. Gunsmith Cats is very decent. Cobra Mustang, need I say more? Mobile Fighter G Gungdam was a bit of a fun branch off fro mthem ain franchise. kinda like Street Fighter with giant robots.
As for Toonami Jetstream, the series I know it has so far are MAR, Prince of Tennis, Hikaru No Go, Megas XLR, Samurai Jack, and if I'm missing any, I forget their names.

Canada is going to get it's own anime station soon that is going to be targeting the 18 and over crowd. In my view this is great for Canada. We lack so much in appreciating world content, that we are usually stuck with either overpaid amero-series or self-worshipping garbage. It just needs to be cleared by the somewhat anal dipwads who control TV in Canada the CRTC but I have a feeling this will fly because they granted the Canada version of G4 (G4TechTV) to broadcast small amounts of anime now as well.
I also got the chapter 1 box of Trinity Blood this week when I was heading in to work and this thing is awesome. The box splits open in the middle and is on henge's and inside there's a few collector items and the inside of the box is lined with the Characters of the show. I noticed right off the bat from the first episode that Abel Nightroad in a few ways is a cross between Vash the Stampede (how clumsy and absent-minded he is at times), Integra (how he looks) and Alucard from how non human Nightroad is.
I'm going to enjoy getting this show now since I got all of the Fullmetal Alchemist DVD's to date and I don't know if they are going to dub the somewhat bazaar OVA stuff from the show (YouTube Fullmetal Alchemist OVA and see what comes up).
Also for those who interested I herd that the first Bleach DVD is going to show sometime next month.

Seconded in your opinion. It has boobies, that's pretty much it. It makes fun of Hokuto No Ken in a way, but doesn't have the total awesomeness which was Fist of the North Star. And the main character is annoying as hell, being one of those "clever hero". I am so bored of those kind of heroes it's not even funny.

I also thought that the first episode was kind of 'meh'. However, episode 2 has the most hilarious 'epic one-on-one battle' that I've ever seen, and eppies 3 & 4 had some great action-y stuff, even for someone like me, who is easily bored by car chases and 'x-treme action'.

Frak, so they *do* expect you to take it seriously? Laaaaaame, ah well, I only saw a few episodes, it isn't like I wasted hours trying to figure it out.
Now Planetes (comic...though the cartoon is good...just...not the same in spirit) is frakken GROSHING!!!That is a series that understands what can be taken seriously about it.
And more people need to read/watch Uzumaki. It's like the ultimate H.P. Lovecraft horror story...if he had been a good writer...

There's an interesting parallel I've noticed in Elfen Lied. Anyone who has seen the entire series, highlight the white text below and if you decide to discuss it, please post spoilers in white, and don't quote the white text (you can see it against the blue background.)
Diclonius = Black people in early America. Think about it: They were both kept in capitivity and subjected to awful treatment, they were both harassed for being different, and they were both feared by white people/humans. Many humans didn't think of the Diclonius as human, and many white people considered black people subhuman as well. Of course, other races have been subjected to this. The creators might not have had that specific race in mind but I think racism is a major theme in that series.
Hank the Tank
10-10-2006, 03:52 PM
I don't think it's making that comparison seeing as how the Diclonius are an actual threat to humanity. IIRC, they have a natural urge to kill humans and reproduce, although a lot of Lucy's urge appeared after all of the abuse.
WOOOoooOOO ghost message!
Garbage Pail Kid
10-10-2006, 03:58 PM

The humans SAID they did. It's obvious they were not right about all of them. Look at Nana. Also, Lucy was perfectly nice at the beginning of her life.

Hank the Tank

@ GPK
I still don't think that they are trying to compare it to compare the series to the animosity for black people in the US a couple decades ago. I mean, what do the Japanese care? It could be compared to any example of racism.
Also, I suppose that "other" Lucy in her head could've represented her frustrations and anger instead of a natural inhibition to kill, but it could be either way.
Garbage Pail Kid

@Hank (Spoilers for Elfen Lied)
This is an edit I made at the end of my first post: "Of course, other races have been subjected to this. The creators might not have had that specific race in mind but I think racism is a major theme in that series."
Pretty much all racism issues are the the same. They almost always involve capitivity, cruelty, genocide, and one race demonizing and fearing the other. I just draw the parallel to black/white race relations because that is the one I'm most familiar with.
Also, the title, "Elfen Lied," is taken from a German song and the pictures in the opening theme of the anime are all based on paintings by Gustav Klimt, an Austrian artists, so it's obvious the creator is familiar with Western history and culture. Go to Elfen Lied's Wikipedia page, and look at the cultural references section.
After some thought, I think are right that he probably wasn't thinking specifically about black/white race relations, especially since he didn't include a slavery reference. The Nazi movement did take place in the area he references in the title and art. Regardless, I think he had racism in general in mind.

But... that really doesn't make sense. If she was created as a weapon, then why was she at an orphanage? If they were weapons, then why did they get distributed to other families (like that one scene with the policeman asking the girl if she had scene anybody scary before getting torn apart by the girl)? I thought the Diclonius (sp?) were like the Marvel mutants, just another step in human evolution.
