What Would You Build? I was helping someone pick out computer parts for an upgrade, and he asked me what I would build for myself if I didn't have to worry about the cost so much. I came up with this:

And can you guess how much it costs?

2800+

The computer I'd build if money was not an issue cannot be built yet. Some things still need to arrive.

Steelcobra, nice case. How is that working for you? I would be a little hesitant to use that case due to worries about condensation. Does it use a closed or open loop system to move the air though your case? or does it work like a water cooled system?

I also avoid using tigerdirect, they sent me a bad power supply which fried out my motherboard and video card, and the Hard drive they sent me was DOD, I had send it into Seagate which cost me an extra $30 and a month in shipping. Just read though the stuff that the BBB has on them. Wow. but if every thing you got from them works, then more power to you.

It draws two streams of air over a pair of heat sinks separated by a peltier. The top gets cold and the air is blown into the case. The bottom heats up and is blown out the bottom. And is doesn't actually refrigerate the case, so there isn't any condensation trouble.

And those two sound like hardware defects, not any particular problem with the seller.

The power supply, maybe, but the hard drive was due to poor packaging on their part. You cant just drop a Hard Drive in a plastic sleeve (non-static) into a box of lose packed packing S's.

I hate paying the VAT, but they say that I am staying here to long to get it refunded.

19%?

I suppose we get used to it, but if you're buying stuff online and the price suddenly jumps up by 500 bucks when you specify your location, that makes me cry :(

I got three from them packed like that, and they work just fine.

LOL. Actually if anything it would be something with MS since Bill Gates actually does something productive with his money and attempts to change the world, whereas Steve Jobs has a sold gold humvee that he drives through darfur just to tease them.

Conveniently, this is just the type of topic I wanted to see, as soon enough, I will be able to build a computer of my choosing, where cost matters not.

Still gotta wait a bit, though, and see what I can get, and for how cheap... In a perfect world, I'd like to somehow create pretty much the most powerful computer I possibly can. Still gotta see if that'll actually be feasible, though.

Dual 8800 GTX's then. Or, whenever they're released, 8900.

Or ATI's cards...they're supposed to be even better.

Yeah...

They only just now fixed how their dual card setup works...and surprise, surprise, it's identical to SLI...but without the special chipset that makes SLI the better solution in the first place.

So no more retarded special 'master' card?

Never mind, it still sucks compared to SLI.

Basically, you buy two Crossfire edition cards (currently only the X1950XTX works), put it in an Intel or Ati chipset mobo with dual x16PCI-E, then slap two SLI connector-like chips between them.
