Well with my subscription with Vanguard i also get a sub of planet side.

From starting the game out, it is a very gerneric FPS. Sure you have vehicals and the like, but it is very very easy to get blasted.

Unlike other FPS I generally have 300+ or so FPS according to fraps (or some other ungodly number..) Thought i doubt this is really much the case, there hardly seems to be any lag at all.

But the things i noticed, the player who play alot will always be able to defeat you with no problem. For instance when they have a big bad robot, and you have a machine gun. Or when you have Anti-vehical rockets. Or your anywhere in the general area of them, they can and will rape you.

There isnt any sort of presision detection. Therefor there is no head shots, which is both yay and boo. This is too give the game its ungody fps, or so im told.

The most annoying this is spawning in a base and being blasted with ads for the Air force, or some other program via thier ad boards. They could at least advertise things like Coca~Cola with little items that healed your life or something when you used them. That would have been cooler and more 'realistic' then advertising the airforce. (I say 'realistic' because this is in space right? what use do we have for the Airforce, when we are freeking space marines running around blowing eachother up?)

Wow, I'm impressed. Planetside is still around? I've never been excited about that MMOFPS. It seemed like a semi-OK idea that suffered from SOE's patented poor sense of direction.

I played that ages ago. It had the same reaction: that game is still alive?

Theres not much to say about it. It was cool to be in big huge battles sometimes, but it is totally true that high level and experienced players will totally overpower lower level players.

The upgrades and advanced tech make huge differences, and it makes it very hard to enjoy as a newb because theres no "low level" playing area.

As a newb your best bet is to:
Join any group you possibly can

specialize what few advancements you have (it won't take many levels to get good Anti-Vehicle equipment for EG, or flight) and practice with that equipment,

go where the biggest fights are (if that is there are even enough active players for them) so you can blend in somewhat. Small intense fights will own you, large battles you will still be fodder but the target rich environment on both sides will allow for time to pick off a few people.

Also, don't be too proud to hump energy, everyone appreciates it, and it's easy XP if you can wrangle up an airlift.

SOE touch of death. All I'm saying...

In all honesty it didn't seem that awful, but it didn't seem that good either when I played it last.

It'll never compare in depth to Single Player or more tradition multiplayer FPSs as an FPS. It'll also never compare to traditional MMORPGs in depth of experience (no crafting or even trading or loot, or boss battles etc etc).

That said they did an admirable job in wrangling those two very diverse arenas into one field, and aside from the abismal failure of WWII online, the first to really take a shot at it.

It needs to combine eve online with plantslide.

fly through space blasting at each other using high speed like starwars rogue fighter.

I'm working on the design myself... just need to find gaming company who thinks that games should be fun and not mearly monnies.
