So far I have seen or heard Z E R O on consumer issues from returns to bad products to gettign the industry to to be more consumer friendly, things that directly effect the consumer.

The only thing the ECA has been doing is annoying polis while all well and fine they are possibly ignoring issues within the indutry...

Am I missing something here, or is this just another trade association with consumer in the title?

Excellent question, though I regret I can add very little. I know of nothing like the ECA locally.

From what I have seen its a trade association, altho it might take a couple years for them to stabilize them selfs and try and go after "consumer" issues but I dunno it seems consumer issues are the last thing it wants to worry about.

well my take on them is they are made from mostly industry "insiders" people from trade groups and other things not what you call a "consumer" focused group, they have started off fighting Legal and law battles over unconstitutional bills thats all well and fine and for a year or so that would be their main focus however I have a feelign they will turn a blind eye to real consumer issues and in time have a high chance of becoming the gaming RIAA because after all if they do not fight for more consumer rights after the legal issues settle in a few years the consumer is the only "option" left.

I might be overly worrying but I am paranoid like that,if they fail to become RIAA like then prehaps they will become more like a normal "trade group" doing what they can for the industry I might be overly skeptical but stranger things have hppened.

You're getting confused with the ESA buddy. The ECA is member supported and made to work for the consumer, not for the industry. It's in the mission statement. Wear your tinfoil hat elsewhere please, just because Hal has set up shop with advertisers doesn't mean this is anything like the RIAA, the ESA already does that and Hal wanted to make something to oppose the ESA.

Seriously, lay off the conspiracy theory pills.

The ESA? Yeah they threatened to take Kotaku to court over posting a story about the mom rated E for everyone t-shirt, so they are officially the thought police and soon will be even worse than the RIAA.
