Was the Folley scandal actually just a coverup for something?

Congress is the next thing to be abolished. Don't need a Congress, only a strong Party.

After Congress, is the Constitution the next to go?

After Congress, is the Constitution the next to go?

Well, we just need to SLIGHTLY rewrite the Constitution. Not a whole lot.

Yeah, but really, the timing of the Folley scandal is just too perfect to hide the fact that George W. Bush is pretty much destroying the entire basis of our modern society.

Devil's Advocate? So advocating for perfectly *reasonable* security policies is evil now? Why should you be worried if you have nothing to hide eh? :p

The thing is... Everyone has something to hide, however small it is. While some might call this a slippery slope, personnal freedom might begin to get smaller and smaller while government involvement gets bigger and bigger, up to the point where you won't be able to hide anything.

What if they outlaw homosexuality for the fun of it, and declare all homosexuals "enemy combatants"? Wouldn't that be fun...

So I guess in his next signing statement Bush is going to declare himself Supreme Ruler?

So they just murdered Habeus Corpus, well they will when Bush signs it into law, which I'm guessing will be around Nov 8th. It had to be urgent to pass so it would go through before he lost the majority in one of the Houses of Congress, but not so urgent as to cause the Republicans to be raped at the polls.

On the subject of the Republican Party. I thought they were the party for smaller government. How is removing a basic right to not being imprisoned without a trial.

Anyone see a big problem with this? Bush could readily sign this Bill into law and then declare any elected Democrats who oppose him in Congress Enemy Combatants and lock them away, allowing him to retain Congress as a lapdog. Not to mention any prominent anti-war protestors such as Cindy Sheehan.

Everyone welcome to the new dictatorship of the United States, our idiot Congress just gave Bush the legal authority he needs to take over the government completely.

The thing is... Is Dubya clever enough to do it, or did he set it up for the next guy that comes into office?

You think Dubya has ever done ANYTHING?

This is the people behind Dubya at work

At this point, I expect Dubya to get shot/get kicked out of office once he signs that and someone to call in a "State of Emergency" in the US so they can start using those new laws.

Exactly. Next time an embassy is TP'd or a world leader is mooned you can pin that on W. Otherwise, it's somone else pulling the strings.

Or they'll 'suspend' Congress and the Senate, and the entire constitution like a certain man with a mustache did in Germany o-o

It is written into the Constitution that writs of Habeas Corpus may only be suspended during rebellion or invasion, neither of which applies now (although the administration will try to make that case.) As soon as someone brings suit against this legislation, it will get shredded, much like every piece of video game legislation to date.

Also, I don't except the Democrats to leave this alone when they take over Congress next month (don't act like it won't happen.)

It won't. Fox has already reported a Republican victory in every disctrict. Even if a democrat wins, he's a replublican. ^^

But saying that this legislation is anti-constitutional will make you an enemy combatant, and will get you tortured for life.

See the vicious circle you can get with that?

Not really. Criticizing your government doesn't make you an enemy combatant. You don't see Patrick Leahy running for the hills right now, do you?

What tells you it won't become a reason to call someone an enemy combatant? Hey, it's Dubya who is decides what and who are enemy combatants anyways...

For 1/10 of a second I thought you meant that the results of the next election were already being challenged. Actually, given how long it took for the Gore/Bush thing to get settled that might not be a bad idea.

I call for a recount! There is NO WAY Linda Lingle could have recieved 100% of the vote! I for one voted for Captain Crunch so I know it's mathmatically impossible!
