This, to be fair, makes more sense than the games/media studies- we can see the effect that other chemicals (IE: drugs, alcohol) when introduced to the body, cause changes in behaviour- hell, it's why people buy them- so there's no reason why this can't be extended to E numbers and sugars and whatnot.

Obviously blaming just these isn't fair (the parents, to use kurisu's example, have some responsibility to teach the child to respond to these chemical imbalances differently, and/or control the intake of said chemicals) but it's certainly a step in a better direction.

It's probably just that when they started feeding the kids grey gruel devoid of any flavor they lost all will to live and became too depressed to be agressive.
