I believe philosophy or world religion is good subject for 5th grade and up,to show all Religion's in a equal light and to understand and discuses them,I am sure most of you will want me dead for all this but really religion is like sht you will step on it someday and it would not hurt to know which is manure and witch is dog poo.......just saying...not all sht is bad :P

Actually, I agree. I went to a Catholic elementry and high school, and in grade 11 we were taught about World Religions. That was the first time I ever enjoyed a religion class. It was really fun and interesting.

Religion has been a driving force behind a lot of cultures and historical events. You can't effectively study history or sociology without studying it.

My mom took world religion (after high school) and she was in elementary school during 40's and 50's when kids would step outside class during bible time and the pledge god it was some fcked up times back then,so when anyone says bible should be in school I cringe and see images of that.

I also want to say the ACLU is right most of the time but when it comes to religion in school they are far far to harsh.

shoot....didnt hit post......

So the question is should it be learned 4 or 6 levels buried in vague general history or 1 or 2 levels buried in a Philosophy class which focus on the history and each religions effect on the societies its in and around and such.

you know the meat of the stuff not the illusions you get in the pew.

Yes, teaching World History and Philosophy would be a good thing from 7th grade on (lower then that, I think the kids wouldn't understand it properly), as it would also stimulate them to critically assess different situations and increase their political awareness.

The thing is: as long as groups promote the teaching of creationism in schools (which I learned is illegal to teach in Quebec, lol), that won't happen.

like most of the discussions here its a nice thought..but unrealistic sadly...truth and history or at least history gets in their way of brainwashing...

The Philosophy of religion is the best part of it because it treats the idea like a toy. Read up on Soren Kierkegard, the religious existentialist. I love his stuff.

If my grandfather was reading this now he'd be chanting "Richard Dawkins, Richard Dawkins" over and over and over again...gets a bit tedious on Sundays after a bit...

I am reminded of that thing from earlier this year where this atheist girl and her family were mobbed, sued and run out of town just because the girl didn't want to pray or something during school.

.... God, I already have a fever, now having been reminded of that shameful bull**** has put me in an even worse mood.
