COLVILLE, Washington (AP) -- An 18-year-old pleaded guilty to trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex-girlfriend's nearly full-term fetus and was sentenced to more than six years in prison.

Charles D. Young received 76½ months in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to first-degree solicitation to commit manslaughter. State law allows for such a count when a viable fetus is the intended target.

Prosecutors allege Young, then 17, offered an undercover officer posing as a hit man $3,250 last October to injure his estranged 17-year-old girlfriend so badly that her fetus would die.

Young was arrested after a classmate learned of his plan and went to police, who arranged to have Young and the undercover officer meet, prosecutor John Troberg said. Young told the officer in a recorded conversation that he didn't care whether his former girlfriend survived the attack, Troberg said.

Young, of Suncrest, Washington, northwest of Spokane, apologized to the girl and her family at sentencing, Troberg said.

Young, who learned of the pregnancy after breaking up with the girl, initially expressed interest in raising their child but later told his ex-girlfriend he wanted nothing to do with the baby, the prosecutor said.

Young's attorney, Bevan Maxey, said his client is an intelligent young man who got bad advice.

"Hello 47, your mission is to take out a fetus, yes that is right an unborn baby in it's mother's womb. We have reason to believe it is the anti christ. Act with Haste 47, the mother is due to give birth any day now, humanity is dependin on you 47"

You have to wonder if this was the most random thing the cop posing as a hitman has been asked to kill. A fetus? I move this guy be castrated and strangled with his own genitals for being a disgrace to humanity.

From WHO? Waffle House? "Oh, I want us to raise the kid together." "No, wait, I don't want anything to do with you or it." "No, wait, I want the baby dead and, if you die too, so be it."

Ya know what? He's on his way to being a top politician.

What a dick.

I have just one question:

Would the hitman's accuracy be good enough to shoot the fetus in the face?

I took every precaution not to read the actual story, as to suprise myself when I actually. I'll go by the title-

Teen hires hitman to kill fetus.

My guess is, either a teen dad or a friend of the mother didn't wan't her to have the child, so they hired a hitman to cause a miscarriage.

Let's see how I did...

EDIT: Wow, I was right! =D

Possibly if the Hitman was a Video Gamer as well.

Meh, this is why guys should have the right to give up all rights to the child (visitation, etc.) and refuse to pay child support. Women can abort or give a kid up for adoption, but men have to live with whatever choice the woman makes... and sometimes, something like this happens. I suspect he would've cared a lot less about the fetus if he'd been able to just sign a paper and get on with his life.

Actually, I was thinking about mentioning something, but didn't know what the laws are up there.

There is, in some states, a law called "Voluntary Revocation Of Parental Rights". Depending on the state, it's sometimes a difficult request to make legally. I know I've seen it on google before, but oddly, when I do a search for the entire phrase "voluntary revocation of parental rights", it only brings up... a post of mine on GP back in Nov.

How much such a law actually covers may also depend on the state.

Addition: A little further research shows that it is also called "voluntary reliquishment of parental rights". But, again, it's a difficult document to get approved by the court.

I've certainly never heard of anyone successfully doing something like that anyway... but I have heard about court cases where men were fighting for that right. Something about a woman claiming she was on the pill and then trying to ruin the guy's life... and him deciding to actually fight back.
