Over the last week i've found myself hooked on an odd game for the Xbox 360. Called earth defense force 2017, it's the first in a long line of action games from japan to be ported over to america. The game plays almost as it it's not trying to impress you. The graphics are decent for it's purpose, but nothing to write about, the sound is humorous almost to the point of hilarity, and the story is pretty much non exsistant. Basicly, your a solder in a specialized attack force fighting off malevolent aliens who use, among other things, Giant robots, huge insects, and flying fortresses in there attack. The game strikes one as being a comical play on the B rate sci fi movies of the 50's,60's,70's and so on,while have much better special effects and lots of destruction. The result? It looks like a game that you would think would fall to the wayside compared to other big name games.

and i CANT STOP PLAYING IT!

The game is inexplicably fun, the sheer glee gained from devistating a horde of giant ants or blasting a massive enemy robot into bits is really something to experiance. With over 160 weapons plus more, the game is insanely intense and features all the action you'd need with none of that pesky story to get in the way. The diaglouge is limited and laughable. The cinmatics are true to the b movie roots.

Yet the game is great for what it does, and what it does is let you fight it out with all the be rate enemies of sci fi past. You want giant robots, you got it. Huge spiders. Done. UFOS?, you bet.

So, for xbox 360 owners who like some good old fashioned, city blasting, chaos making action, this game is for you.

If that sorta thing isn't what your into, then rent it first and give it a try.

Any questions? Feel free to ask.

Holy ****. I want.

I loved it, but your level of obsession might vary from mine KN. Still, for some good old school blasting fun, it's perfect.

God yes, but fun as all hell. You should hear me when i get going in the right mindset with my Cascade rockets and my shotgun.

" die evil ugly Bug things, die die die" ::huge explsions from rocket barrage:: "#@%^ I'm out of rockets again "

been a long time since a game made me just enjoy the pure adrenaline rush like EDF does. Unloading on a swarm of bugs with a grenade launcher then switch to a Goliath rocket is unmatched for destruction.:D

Both yes and no. Yes, because sometimes they fail to recognize obstacles between them and an enemy. If say, a wall, stands between them and a giant ant/spider, they'll shoot the wall. Of course this can be quite entertaining if you substitute the wall for a building. They have no problem with blowing a building up with a rocket, just to get to a single monster.

No, because they can actually hold their own and put up a good fight. They do have trouble with some of the bosses though, but other than that they're fine.

In truth, your fellow solders are good aims and have no real fear, regardless of what they say. But they also aren't smart enough to get the whole "Friendly fire" concept. Doesn't matter if your in the way or not, they'll rocket you to kill the giant ants in a heart beat.

On the flip side, they can be handy for setting traps. Since they don't move unless you come with in a certain distance, you can annoy some bugs, get them chase you, then have your buddies blast them en masse. It's a neat trick. Of course, it goes the other way since they can get killed by Friendly fire and have a retarded habit of walking in the path of my Bullets.

Anyway. Regardless, the game is fun.:D

Well, finally beat the game on normal, and have decided to move forward with it on the other levels. having unlocked almost all the weapons, I've found that certain scenarios call for specifc gear. For example, if your holding a line against a swarm of red ants is hard with even the best hardware, especially on the higher difficulty levels, but there is a way to win it. Get the Magma cannon and the ZEE x10 gun turrent. Put the turrents in a realitive circle around you, then when the bad guys get near, switch them on, bust out the magma cannon, and go crazy on there giant red asses. Between the flames cooking them and the cannons blasting them, you should be able to hold them off and take down tons of them in the process, then let your weapons reload between waves. This also applies to other weapons, like using turrents with a high power machine gun or shot gun. The staggered damage is brutal over time.

Some times though ,it's fun to just load up the biggest guns I can find, and go into easy mode so I can level the city for fun and profit :D

But all in all, this games replay value is high, with the various weapons and difficulty levels.

I found this game addictive for a while, but the gameplay got repetitive after a while. The level of difficulty may be off-putting for some, and some levels give no dierection on what you're supposed to do. Also, the ally AI is terrible.
