Gives a $5000 HDTV and a cab ride to the first 100 buyers of the PS3:

...oh dear god I wish I lived there...
...that is so unfair...
If you get on the plane now, by the time you get there, they still haven't sold all 100.

In the UK people got free TVs. In the US people got shot.
Well, I guess they can't complain too much about the lack of the PS2 chip.

*promptly shoots the bird at Sony* No chance in hell I'm getting a PS3 now.

Why, because they decided to do something ****ing awesome for some gamers? Or because you just didn't happen to get it? That's no reason to swear off a system. All that does is make you look like a fanboy.

I'm BSing myself anyway. I once swore I'd never get an Xbox, now I got one plugged into my TV. Odd s are I'll get a PS3 in the future, but it won't be untll after a significant price drop, likely after their next console comes out, that seems to be the cycle in my case. The Gamecube and the PS2 were the only machines I had gotten years before the next ones were even released.
And I hate to say this ,but them giving away a one grand television to me speaks volumes about the system itself, they should be good enough t osell themselves, not need an incentive like that.

Actually, no one there realized they were getting the TVs until a few were given away.

Which is for the best. I'm sure some people knew because of the CCTV over there.
Big Brother is watching you.
At any rate, in AUS and NZ Microsoft sent beer so it only makes sense that they'd one-up them.
I think it's really awesome that Sony would do this but I won't afford a PS3 until they lower the price hella hella much.

Best for that, would have had robberies happen if people knew beforehand.

I think it was also so A: the gamers would get the warm fuzzies from this towards Sony, and B: so the gamers would have the gear to see the PS3's high-def graphics.

Speaking of high Def, i haven't noticed much of a difference between the graphics on his HD TV and on my Flatscreen CRT.

Your monitor's at least 1024x768 right? You're already running 780p equivalent then.

In other words my flatscreen is at least as good as an HD?

My 22" Widescreen is at 1680x1050 (16:10) and has an HDMI port. So yes.
But, to take advantage of that it needs a way to recieve those high-def signals, such as this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116310).

I'll have to look at my TV. What's an HDMI port look like?

Like this:

The cable looks like this:

And it's compatible with DVI:

The only difference is that HDMI also sends audio data.

Nope, I don't have that port, jsut the standard S video and coaxial ports, and this one round port on it. I've see nthe same type of port on my PC video card labelled as S video.

Doesn't really matter if your monitor is vga-only unless you're using something like a blu-ray player that has hdcp anyways.

I don't plan to get a BLu Ray player anytime soon ,the most advanced thingsI plan to haveh ooked up are an Xbox 360, a Wii, and if I can ever learn how, my compute,r since I assume the port I have on it is an S video out.
Hmm... my tv has a DVI port for some reason..
Saay.. would it work if I did the DVI to HDMI thing and then just plugged analog sound in?

Yes you can. HDMI is just a modification of DVI that includes digital audio and switches from a D-sub plug to a USB-style friction plug.

What's the password for the archive hidden in that HDMI cable pic? Nothing i've tried works.

I don't care either way if the UK gamers got a HDTV. I already got a nice 27' ViewSonic LCD but I don't know how to turn on the HD mode of the TV. But I know I do have DVI and VGA plug in's as well as the standard video and audio plug in's as well as composite plug in's and S-Video.
And I'm hoping to snag one of those PS3's that has the PS2 chip inside because I don't like computer software emulation to run games that much. And the way Sony's been talking they are going to move to that for the MK2 PS3's to cut costs.
