Ok, maybe it's a bit of an exaggeration. Still, It's been a long time since I've thought of nuclear missiles being used in anything other than sci-fi movies.

I believe someone on the Daily Show described Kim as a "flake".
I think that's a term I can agree with.

Hey your crossing into my turf, wtf is up with that?
Anyway this whole thing is total crap, and not like crap where I don't buy any of what is said. Crap in how childish Kim Jong Ill and the rest of the world is being. I guess if you want to negociate with people now you threaten them with a Nuke....hmm seems logical.
And to make this thing look like a bigger joke, people are down playing it as nothing, and politicians see this as another excuse to grandstand. Dems are taking this oppertunity to blame the Bush administration for N. Korea testing what is believed to be a Nuke. Ummm guys last time I checked no president has the say on what other nations can and cannot do. John Kerry being one of the Dems leading the attack. Hey numbnuts here is an idea, instead of taking this time to attack he republicans (and the same goes for them) why not work with eachother to see what can be done to resolve the matter. I think it is retarded to blame anyone here for what Jong Ill is doing, not that I like Bush but hell to blame him for something like this is stupid.
I heard Kerry may run for president again, I may hate the GOP but I will not vote for this whiney Hurman Munster look alike.

Actually if you read the entire press releases by the Dems they are actually basically pointing out that if Bush wasn't so focused on Iraq and had a lousy foreign policy this thing may not ever have happened. They aren't blaming Bush for the test so much as a crappy foreign Policy.
As for the test itself read the article this thing was 40-50 times too small for a nuclear test. So either N. Korea has developed a really sophisticated nuclear weapon from the get go, or they are trying to fake a Nuclear Weapon in order to try and intimidate.
Anyways I'm not sure how much longer Beijing is going to put up with Kim Jong Ill's antics, they are really getting fed up with him as it's hurting thier relations to the U.S. When Beijing reaches it's limit on patience you can bet on a regime change in N Korea.

Or they might have tested something SIMILAR to a nuclear weapon but not quite a nuclear weapon. Like a high powered fusion bomb or something like that. Oh wait... Maybe they just told Kimmy that they had made a nuclear bomb because he wanted something to brag about.

The WP reports that it was only a 500 ton blast, a far cry from the 23,000 ton bomb the US dropped on Nagasaki. Many are wondering if the reason it was underground was to hide the telltale signs of a real nuclear blast...
Then again, the US in 1962 tested smaller nukes that yielded only 22 tons (the W54). They were meant for aircraft missiles and shoulder-mounted launchers. The W72 was developed for the AGM-62 Walleye, and had a yield of 600 tons.

As much as I dislike the use of Nuclear weapons in combat, I find them endlessly fascinating.

Shoulder mounted nuclear weapons are not really what I'd call worksafe, but then again, when dealing with nukes, you're never really safe.
If Kimmy decided to develop a small scale nuclear weapon, it might mean he intends to use it on tactical targets rather then just employ it like a trump card in negotiation. I'd be wary of that.
We must all do what Stephen Colbert is doing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRueOBy7THg)

From what I've read, it would seem that they tried to test a full blown nuke, but frakked up the design (probably because they used the same design that failed for the Pakistani program), and the bomb fizzled instead of...uhh...going all...explode...y...(or whatever the phrase I was trying to think of was).

I remember the mid 1980s when the US and Lybia were having it out. Realistic or not, a bunch of us were worried those clashes would end in a major war. And back then, nuclear war was a big fear. Even if it weren't realistic to think about it in regards to Lybia, we kids had a tendancy to be worried about nuclear exchange anytime there was a conflict.
These days it isn't as big a concern. After two Gulf Wars, nuclear exchange was almost not thought about. A big change from the 80s. But now, even the threat of one nuclear missile brings back the memories of those concerns.
My son hasn't said anything to me yet. Of course, I'm not sure if he knows much about what is going on. But I have to wonder if anything has begun to trickle down from parents who are in the know down to their children who may overhear them talking and then going to school and talking with each other. I kinda imagine that they will start feeling the same way we did back in the 80s.
From what I've read, it would seem that they tried to test a full blown nuke, but frakked up the design (probably because they used the same design that failed for the Pakistani program), and the bomb fizzled instead of...uhh...going all...explode...y...(or whatever the phrase I was trying to think of was).
Which means the Dutch succeeded.
Yes, the father of the Pakistani nuke got his knowledge from US. And we SUCK at making nuclear things that go splody (look at our nuclear power plants; they just won't go splody :( ).

I suppose we should wait until they agree on how big the blast was...
The US said 500 tons, Russia said 5,000.

I guess the real proof will be when the radiation sniffers Japan is flying spot something. Although NK claims there was no radiation leak (bs, but it gives them an out as to why Japan couldn't detect any)

It looks like Jon Stewart's N. Korea summer home was blown apart in that test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNDzjoEkOtE).
But out of all truthfulness the reason why that Kim Jong-il is doing this stuff is because he's ronery the US is largely focused on Iraq and in turn the rest of the people who live in the US is eyeing their government over how bad the war came out and more recently Predatorgate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Mark_Foley_scandal) and in turn most of the Earth is watching the US because of how they can screw over a country in another part of the Earth (short list of countries that have a bone to pick with the US is: Canada = getting our trade agreements screwed over when they taxed our trees & The Netherlands = the AA's getting The Pirate Bay shutted down when they pressured the government there).
And with all eyes on the US to me it's no wonder why Kim Jong-il is doing this stuff because he is just saying something along the lines of "Hey look at me everybody! I got nuclear bombs and I'm not afraid to use them!" He is just being a media whore right now as I see it.
How I'd WISH the Pirate Bay was in the Netherlands. That would be Sweden.
Yeah, Kim does this sort of thing every time attention diverts from him.
