OK, we've all heard about the hideous addictivness of this devil game that leads perfectly normal people into a tragic life of despair...but how many play it?

I just bought a months subscription, I played before but decided to give it another go. Currently I have a level 28 Ratonga Necromancer on Runnyeye but I'm going to start again with something more hitty things based.

So, do you play it? What do you play? What do you like/hate? Tell me your secrets...tell me your fantasies...

People play that one?

Well they used to, looking around this server...its kind of a wasteland...I'm so lonely...

Theres a reason why its a wasteland. Do all SOE games go bad?

Dagrak
03-08-2007, 02:24 PM
Personally I don't think EQ2 is that bad but SOE does have a reputation of irritating its loyal fanbases but making it unappealing for new players. I never would have joined if I hadn't found out Lucan D'Lare is voiced by Christopher Lee...I'm a sucker for evil.

Sony really doesn't seem to be doing very well with appealing to players these days...and yet people are still clambering for the PS3

Thats exactly why I quit star wars galaxies. It it was to be great. No levels. Tons of professions. Unique skill grinding. Player built cities. Player build economy. It was great. Then SOE had to mess it all up. After the stupid jedi revamp, them jedi's popped out of everywhere. How is there so much jedi's if the game takes place after the first death star was destroyed? That totally ruined the game. There was anti jedi clans and jedi ganking squads on every server. Yet SOE doesnt care about the fans. SOE hurt my feelings.

Well, they did once teleport a massive protest into space...

Dagrak

Its quite obvious what they should have done with a Star Wars licensed game, made one set after the films with a new villain. Have them create a Sith Academy to rival the Jedi and then use the various Jedi/Sith archetypes to create the classes. You could still be a pilot or a Stormtrooper but making everyone a Jedi would mean there wouldn't be an overuse of the one class.

I played a demo of SWG, I got bored...though it was after the Combat Upgrade.

...I may have played a jedi...

After the films is entirely the domain of the canonical books.

Thats what I thought! Was it not like that before?

No. You selected a target, either by clicking or auto select. If the enemy was hostile all you need to do is double click, or right click then select the option to attack. If your within range you would attack automatically. You didnt need to keep clicking. Then you can select special attacks you've hot keyed and use em anything during the fight, as long as you have the energy for it or the target was in range.

So pretty much how most MMO's handle it...hmm...I wonder why they decided to change it.

Im guessing because they wanted to appeal to new users and noobs. I played the new combat revamp and the tutorial was so meant for noobs. Before that it was kinda of hard to learn things. Usually by asking other players which always worked. I swear SWG use to have one of the best communties. People would shower noobs with tons of free loot. Composite armors, small houses, Speeders, and like 20 thousand credits.

Sounds like the opposite of WoW where my first question to another player was replied to with abuse...all I asked was where this key character was.

Thats exactly what I heard from lots of people. I have the game bought, but not installed. Like eve installed lol. What a waste of money.

Its a good game (WoW), I recommend playing it on an RP server. It sounds crap but hardly anyone RP's but they tend to have a higher intelligence and friendliness level then the other servers. I play it every few months or so, got to level 40 but couldn't be bothered anymore as thats when people start to demand your time in raids.

I've solo'd to lvl 56 in WoW. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to 70 without ever being in a party. It's not that I'm anti-social it's just that my character has little quirks like she counts everything and spaces inventory items in certain ways and has all sorts of small rituals. It tends to creep people out.

I was the same, cept I did it so I could play my character how I wanted and not how I "should". This generally mean't my rogue was likely to run in, stab them and then run away screaming like a wuss...made the Alliance laugh.

Back to EQ2, I got a good play on it last night and it seems they've made a few alterations since I last had a go. Mainly the crafting system actually seems to make sense now and I actually made something...true it was utterly worthless but still. My mission this time is to overcome the obstacle that thwarted my crafting attempts last time...the deadly cup of tea...

Things it does have that are worth playing for:

1)Heroic Opportunities - Basically special effect combos for extra damage. Look pretty too.
2)Lots of Mini Quests - Like collecting and tradeskills. They're not essential but they make being stuck in one place more entertaining.
3)Style - (Not to be confused with graphics) The general theme is a more realistic and grittier fantasy then other MMO's, which appeals to me.
4)Voice Over - It feels a bit more important if its Christopher Lee giving you orders rather then just a text bubble
5)Emotes - Much better then most other games. Someone put a heck of a lot of effort in to them

Things that spoil the gameplay:

1)Confusion - Sometimes you have no idea where the stuff your supposed to get or kill is and some of the maps really aren't nice.
2)Graphics - Oddly enough despite being older then WoW it runs worse. It has a strange graphic style that my computer doesn't like and which makes it look less professional then other games.
3)Players - Unlike WoW where most players are arseholes, EQ2 has a reasonable player group...just none at low levels.
4)User Interface - A lot of functions/commands/actions require fiddling about doing things you wouldn't expect, so its less newcomer friendly then most
5)SOE - I swear the price increased since last time. Using the SOE station to figure out your account is Hell! Unless you do it in the right order and from the right site things seem difficult to sort out.

Did get freaked out though by a Dark Elf Coercer who I found in a river...doing nothing...only to return over an hour later to see her in the same river, having moved slightly (so not AFK) but still...doing nothing...

That and being in a gritty fantasy setting and then seeing a gnome named "DarkWilly" running around and someone else shouting about how they have no pants...which is freakier when you consider its a Euro server and pants over here refer to your undies...ewww...

Still with the current changes, sounds like the cons overwhelm the pros.

I tried to make a Meals on Hooves service.

Never really kicked off though, cause i couldnt get all my food stuffs together, not to mention the fact you cant make a batch of cookies.

Oh I agree with that, it would be nice if I could just make loads in one go rather then make just 2 at a time.

----------------

On another note, I can see now why SOE is disliked. I wanted to get Echoes of Faydwer to play with my brother (he wants to be a Fae...eek) but I could only find it online for about £30...thats more then I can get a collectors edition of some major games! In the end I found it and all the other add on packs in Game for a buy two for £25...so two games and all add on packs for less then one add on pack...nice

All of the stores in my area have PS3s on the shelves -- more PS3s than PS2s even. They still can't keep Wiis on the shelves at all.

Bluray players costs the same or less as a PS3 now. They should've kept em at 1000 like when they launched. Silly Sony.

EDIT: I've seen stores advertise the PS3 as a Bluray player "that always plays games!"
