Dr. Daniel DeMarco, a gastroenterologist and director of endoscopy at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, said the amount of jalapenos consumed in an eating contest is more harmful than the burn.

"It's really pretty stupid," DeMarco said. "Like any sort of abuse of your body, it doesn't make any sense."

Well, no DUH, mister I-have-a-Ph.D! I have a hard time eating 2 jalapenos so goes figure.

I find it interesting, too, that the winner was also drinking milk. I don't know about anybody else, but milk fills me up faster when I drink it with food. I wonder how many he could have eaten if he had used something other than milk.

Milk has a HUGE advantage, though. It quickly decomposes any spicy elements in the food and allows you to actually not burn your tongue completely. And milk doesn't fill me, it allows me to eat more.

I have read soemwhere or heard that eating the right amount of jalapenos or hot peppers of any kind can settle ones stomach and is used in some medicines.

and i agree a habenero eating contest woulda been far more entertaining XD. Lets see milk hold back the heat on those bad boys XD

I get moods of texture food sometimes and eat them with dinner 3-10 ^^

The results of the contest in the article haven't been updated on their site yet. But I suspect the over 200 eaten is correct.

Also note, according to their site, one of their members is on Wife Swap tonight. They are claiming it's supposed to be one of the best episodes and will be an Emmy nomination.
