Whats up with the locking the 2 religion threads seem ok and have not spiraled into flaming like the faux news thread..I am just a bit confused is this form goign to be more strict than it was?

If it is,make new thread rules so people will know.

if it is I will I'll try and not be so mindless with my posts LOL

I'm confused as well, the 10 signs thread turned around and became a discussion instead of an argument, it became one of the most civil threads about religion we've ever had, and then it was locked. Is this going to lead to a ban on religious discussion?

Threads shouldn't locked unless they turn into insultfests. I actually like discussing religion, I just don't like when people piss on it (which they weren't really doing.)

Quite possible... Sad but true.

Quite possible... Sad but true.

The religious has moved up to being something that cannot be critized here. Something that has lead to the rise of Christian extremism in the US, and the probably with Islamic and Jewish extremism in the Middle East.

...I think you might be overreacting a little bit.

But yeah, that topic didn't even begin to look like it was devolving into a flame war.

Well it was a flame war close to being blocked, then the mods decided to not block it because people were being civil, then it got blocked out of the blue.

Dennis actually locked those threads. So allow that to be a frame of reference for the tolerance level of religious related discussion tolerance from hereon in. If it's tactful, then I see no problem, but top 10 lists...I mean, come on.

We already have one thing (or person) on these forums that everyone loves to whine about, we don't need two.

If a ban on fundamentalism-bashing is imposed,i'm sure some of us(Demontestament ETC.) will not have much to post about.

I have an idea, let's talk about religous fundamentalists in fiction!!!

I think Dennis remembered what happened when he posted religious articles on GP

I may be, but the last thing I want is to live in a society (or even next to one) where I can be put to death all because I'm a f-a-g and I like to **** guys.

Thankfully, Iran and the rest of the Middle East is on the other side of the world, and we're separated by water. I don't need the US becoming Gilead...

K that explains half of why my thread was locked. My thread however was a relative infant and hadn't been flamed(yet, probably woulda been due to differing beliefs). possibly coulda gone into the legitamacy of free speech zones on college campuses and how much is too much and how far is too far when it comes to verbally harrasing people.

PM GamePolitics if you've got a beef. He locked it, not me, and I don't defy his decisions.

TrentHowell
10-09-2006, 04:55 PM
probably will, not to challenge the locking but more or less a reason why both were locked in the first place. Usually there is a reason attached to why they were locked usually in the thread itself prior to the locking or at least a PM to the thread owner unless the reason was that obvious, which both were not exactly obvious.

Debating/discussing things like politics and religion can lead down to controversial roads, but if nothing controversial is ever talked about or done then we'd live in a squeaky clean world.

a reason would still be nice though so we know what not to post again so we dont break any forum rules or give the mods uneccesary work. So far the reason is pretty vague other than both dealt with religion.

His reason is excess. These threads get very violent and then he has to deal with tons of moaning. ****in' Beej has reported a few of KN's posts. This **** get's tiring after a while. We're not 14 years old here, this should be real easy, guys.

Every once in a while, when a new and interesting story (i.e. NOT Fred Phelps' latest fart) about an INTERESTING and HIGHLY DEBATEABLE (not the use of the word "debate", not "argue like a bunch of 12 year olds") THEN you may post about it, but seriously, in the old forums there were 12 new religion threads every f'in minute. I seriously wonder what you guys would discuss without it. That's why I like the debate thread, EVERYONE SHOULD SIGN UP!!!

I thought a new thread was supposed to be started today?
See, if you slack off on the debate thread then religious flame wars break out. :P

Problem is what one person thinks is interesting and highly debateable will be another persons dull and obvious statements. I may find the issue of street preachers and their methods debatable in alot of ways, while another may find it overused, dumb, or offensive just as an example. I found the info in my thread interesting because it just happened at my university last wednesday thru friday.

Like you said we're not 14 here so we should all be mature enough to know that if it offends you, don't read it. It can never offend you if you never look at it. Thats my philosophy anyway but then again controversial subjects tend to attact the ones it would offend like flies to a horse. Guess thats why subjects like that get controversial.

Geez, not this happy horse**** again. You know, I've noticed a disturbing trend on this forum: It seems like anyone who disagrees with the popular opinion ends up getting insulted by a whole bunch of other posters and eventually run off of the forum, just like Bayushisan did. It seems like everyone is gunning for Beej now. I've had conversations on this forum with Beej about topics we disagreed on and we never had a problem.

Sadly thats how the ecosystem of society works, the leaders or *moderators* can only handle so much work so they have to cut back on freedoms in oder to keep things civil ,or in the USAs case to keep things mindlessly PC where everyone is equal and no one is resposable and thus everyone is to blame......

If this thread gets locked then this whole forum has fallen greatly 0-o

BTW to be fair to Beej theres no need to give out her/his old forum name,if someone has to know PM it to them.

*L*
merely saying if we let ourself flame each other the mods will have to work overtime and might have to close threads that might be flamed and then in the end it is all our fault,in that end the forum should go thru a new trial period were we must learn to censor ourself somewhat, also another thing the more you whine to the mods about posters being unfiar the more you "cry wolf" thus why I never reported Silver for being..well...Silver if you cant take this place full of its derverse personalities then leavening would be the best option for all.

No need to shut up, but going about insulting after complaints have been made doesn't make things any better. Actually I'm gonna close this thread, as the locking was done by Dennis because he felt that the thread "10 Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian" was over the line.

I know some slight insults are going to go on, Theory? and myself are bad about it with each other, but I'm not going to let someone target someone for reporting a post he/she felt was over the line.

Basically I guess I'm telling people to grow up. Also I'm back online during the day again so I'll be watching if not posting as often.
