I will say this now keep your snide back handed comments to yourself, the point of the thread is to hash the idea of a litly violent Christan themed game if you have anything bad to say about Christianity don't post it here, rant about it in the rant thread.
Look a link even
http://www.gamepoliticsforums.com/showthread.php?t=1123

Anyone not to follow this I will ask Toll to delete the post as its not needed and see if tis bad enough to add a strike agisnt the poster.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Repeat this thread is about making a simple as fun as you can make it ,Christan themed ACTION game,Please keep to the topic of the game the issue's it would have in both sides of the media industry and the nit picking from the anti game crowed ,mindless bashing the "non violent" approach or Christianity will not be tolerated.
_______________________________________________

A zelda style Christian game set in roman times in the pre catholic Rome area ,no magic,no monsters only humans and animals and perhaps angels and holy spirits to guide the "hero".

Main character male age 12-17 ,ex slave, using Christian themes to meet the needs of the quests that he finds.

Game type sand box/Zelda style
Quests saving slaves running errands for the church spying on the the enemies of the church, hunting food disabling carts and other indirect action to stop the movement of war and oppression on others.

Gameplay
Hiding Sneaking,surprising guards,knocking out thugs/villains/guards

Killing
Because we want to tame the use of violence killing a human will result in either instant area restart or a mark on your moral compass if you get to may marks you lose the info/map system of the game (think GTA no map no quest log,no cross hair to aim,the auto aim gets a -50% to aim, ect, ect, ect) you become "lost" from here you either restart from last save or find your way to a church and gain a pilgrim quest your "on your own" until you find your way threw and complete your pilgrimage.

Non lethal Weapons
Quick take downs and surprise is the key here there are 3 levels of take downs lite knock out/ heavy knock out and brutal knock out .
Stick
Staff
Sling

Hunting weapons
From defending self from loins ,hunting game and such, using these to hunt humans will gain you nothing but trouble.
Spear
Bow

Tools
Flint
Knife
Rope
others??

Defense
"My faith is what carries me"
can be used here the choices you make effect how you gain HP and defiance if you make allot of easy choices you don't grow in these areas if you are a heavy handed fighter and do allot of brutal take downs it will be held agisnt you and you wont grow as well or as fast.

Thoughts comments?(not rants and mental spewings)

Sonuds like a fairly well thought-out game, at least on the most basic level. It has it's statements but won't necessarily be overly-preachy. Assuming an equal amount of effort goes into gameplay itself, it could be a good game.

Still, have to make fun of typos:
Hunting weapons
From defending self from loins
That right there is a quick way to an AO rating. ^_^

damn ><
LOL
:D
;)

good catch ^^

As far as it being preachy its a christen themed game think of it as a better christen kids TV show I am merely trying to understand the basics of my thought if you will thats why I posted it however I do see 2 main problems 1 20+ hours of content can we say after awhile the progression becomes repetition and thus stagnation /eek/ .

the other is handling violence I mean I can think of plenty of things to do for a teen or Mature rated game but a 6+ everyone game that becomes tricky of coarse theres allot of things in the bible one can draw from to fill in odds and ends but my point is to balance "ACTION" and "VIOLENCE" without drowning the game in mindless busy work,of corse the game could be in since a pilgrimage and the busy work a reflection of the dullness life.

I think it can be done just no devs are willing to go threw with it.

Could be an interesting concept.

Depending on how daring a project it wants to be, something worth exploring is the state of the early fractured church. Pre-Constantine Christianity was a pretty diverse group with many (some pretty different) factions and theological interpretations.

A game like this could easily pit faction against faction, or even allow the player to choose WHICH early version of Christianity they followed. Heh.. one could even add a historical consequence to choosing the 'wrong' branch... i.e. when one church became dominant it then went on to wipe out all the other denominations.... all of a sudden the whole mission for the character could change.. instead of freeing the slaves, eliminate the heretics... or fleeing from the new christian (but not YOUR christian) power in rome. There are some good lessons to be learned from that transition.

Though it should also be noted that slings are not non-lethal weapons. They were actually considered a pretty powerful weapon in their day and were most definatly used to kill your opponent. They were not 'oh this rock will just knock the person out' weapons.. they were 'this rock will smash in this person's skull and remove them from the battlefield while our infantry manages to close the gap' weapons.

Ya you could have a faction that was soloman like loud and blunderbusy, or was it peter who later was all for chastity,a mix of scets to do jobs for, expand it GTA like in sand boxyness you have the christian sects the Romans and perhaps some barbarians and maybe a Jewish and Muslim sect , but a middle road approach going with simple bulling the sects do with each other giving you a path to either join it or take a different path.

you do not have to get into full on death, gore or conflict laden game, but a more simplistic setup that has heavy modern non "devise" christian theme, somewhere between The Passion of The Christ and smart and witty veggie tales, I think if you have solid writing a good bit of humor with an action adventure setting under a PG/PG13 rating it would make for a compelling game.

well..ya..if you want a instant restart, but I'd be fun if one could show a level of skill and not kill your human opponent but merely temporarily cripple them :P
