View Full Version : Shinzo Abe, New Japanese PM
http://http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060926/ap_on_re_as/japan_politics
Highlights:
Abe's roadmap takes Japan down a path toward a more robust military and more assertive foreign policy...
Key to Abe's push will be revising the constitution, which renounces war as a means of solving international disputes and has formed the cornerstone of Japan's post World War II identity. ...
Even his minister in charge of gender issues, Sanae Takaichi, is known for her right-leaning outlook. She's against a dual-surname proposal that would let married women keep their maiden names. ...
"From today, I will start building a new Japan," Abe said. "The Cabinet I appointed today is one that will create a beautiful Japan."...
Chinese President Hu Jintao has refused to meet with Koizumi since last year over his visits to the Yasukuni war shrine, which honors war criminals among Japan's war dead and is considered by critics to be a glorification of Tokyo's past militarism. ...
Well that's just great.

Oh ****, now this is just stupid.
Since World War II, Japan has been a world power and an incredibaly strong economic force, and they were able to do it without a military. And then this guy comes along. The ass.

I thought Japan wasn't allowed to militarize, period.

Well they have something called the Japanese Self Defense Force, what they can't do is wage war, though they can send troops for peace keeping or defend themselves from attack.

This is fantastic! WWIII will be revenge of the Allies. America is so close to turning to Fascism you can taste it, England is still our greatest ally, and Japan is a great ally as well. Well, they were axis in the last one so they're switching sides but the important thing is they'll be in with the Fascists. We'll still be fighting the Germans and I'd imagine France will be defeated early on and form a neavous Marquis.

I find that an odd statement. Is this enforced? Who are the morons enforcing this?
In case you never got this; Germany has an army too. So does Italy, and every other former Axis nation. Why deny Japan an army?

Well, they agreed to a pacifist constitution way back when. They have every right to amend their constitution using their process. I just don't think they should as they don't need anymore then they already have really.

Doesn't Japan have a constitution that has basically stayed the same since the US kinda.. wrote it for them>

I can see it..I can see it...thier moral party will start trying to ban things left and right and in time gain enough support to start mindless wars to distracts the people from the corruption they have caused...
....if they DARE making fondling girls on the train illegal I will be very very mad.

The difference is that, unlike Germany or Italy, Japan has yet to apologize for anything they did in WWII. In fact, modern Japanese schooling downplays their involvment in the war.
If I may be harsh for a moment, I don't think they have to, considering they were nuked while being on the verge of surrendering. An invasion of Japan was never an option, because they were going to surrender anyway.
